    The Long Walk was lead by none other than Kit Carson. Imagine your people going through this, then decades later, volunteering to help the nation that did this to you win WWII. See Code Talkers. Says a great deal about the character of the Navajo poeple.

      Absolutely. I remember the wonderful stories of the code talkers even though I am not dineh.

      There's Medicine men that told me sometimes your worst enemy will actually help you in the end. Grudges & beef for no reason aren't always worth it.

      "Volunteering" you must not know what drafts are for and what consequences it had if you ignored it.

    I used to know , one person, his great grandfather was a young boy on The Long Walk, how terribly sad to hear how it was on that Walk, he only knew he was going some place, he had only heard of , not some place he actually knew. He grew up had a good life , a good family, Rest now Grandfather.

    Grandfather, I still listen and I hear your words. I also notice that it does not look as though you are in a hogan or house today. And, I am sorry not to see with you the usual beautifully woven blanket behind you. Thank you for the lesson in history. 🌹 When I was a young teacher at the School for the Deaf, I once taught a unit, a set of lesson plans, on the Mormon pioneers. As part of those lessons, we took the children on a field trip to see Fort Bridger and other historic sites. We also made sculptures in art of native peoples' dwellings including the Navajo Hogan. I invited a man who had been adopted into a native family (Ute, Goshute or Navajo, maybe) who was a "Mountain Man" with raccoon hat and all to teach the students about the history of animal trappers in the area. We learned about animal tracks, beat drums in a drum circle and even made and ate what were called "Navajo tacos."
    I am familiar with the tragic historical stories of the atrocities--of death and disease--that took so many native peoples' lives during the wars the United States waged against the indigenous peoples in this nation, including the Dine, at its inception as a nation. Many 'trails of tears' left behind footprints in their wake of people whose suffering should never be forgotten. I hope you and your family are well. Let us all hope that the youth of today have been educated in the history of this nation and that we never forget the wrongs that our nation committed against so many different and diverse peoples. Yet, as I have experienced myself more recently--these days-- voices of the past that continue to echo even today that would take pleasure in viewing myself and some other African Americans as nothing more than ignorant slaves. A friend recently told me that they heard a person joking that there was some website where real living black people could be purchased as slaves by NAME today. I was shocked. I cannot believe that! That is not a joke nor a funny thing to joke and say at all. Everyone is having such difficulties due to the economy that many people here volunteer with churches and other organizations , like my very own sister did, picking fruits and vegetables to help feed low income families and others who are destitute and impoverish. Sometimes.the volunyeers receive food in compensation for thier labor, but they are in no way like slaves as volunteers. Such talk as rumored above only serves to make such kind-hearted people feel as if their voluntary labored was in vain.
    Tomorrow I will take my usual walk. I often walk and chant some healing mantras and prayers on counting beads and will begin tomorrow first with the Hindu Gayatri mantra and then the Corn Pollen prayer. Last week I stopped and picked some cedar bark and branches as well as juniper branches along my walk to make into smudge bundles. I plan for some personal ritual and prayer during the afternoon and practicing cooking later in the evening. I may do some Reiki healing practice as well before the end of the night. I will think of you and your family. I hope such spiritual endeavors humanity engages in, as we do, will help the universe educate and enlighten those with hardened hearts that would spread such contemptuous words jokingly against any people marginalized by society in our nations and on this planet.
    May our world never again see such tragedy and violence, death and destruction, done again as history tells us of against any people as had been done historically against the indigenous natives of the Americas and others.🌷

    It is amazing the strength of the Dine, as well as all Native Peoples. In spite of the horrendous treatment the “civilized” white man has put on them, they survive. Hopefully, we’re entering a new era & we can reverse these atrocities. I don’t care what color we are, we’re all human beings that deserve respect.

      let us never forget... a people who forget their history are doomed to repeat it... the benevolent government of the United States says the Dińe were the most serious impediment to the westward movement of European settlers... which, considering the Dińe have been peaceful society of farmers and sheep herders for more than twice the current age of the benevolent government in question... seems strange 🤔

    I dont understand why you’d serve a country responsible for this

    • @JonDoeNeace
      @JonDoeNeace 3 місяці тому +1

      Because they're bound to their principles, not personal grudges.

    • @JonDoeNeace
      @JonDoeNeace 3 місяці тому +1

      They were against Hitler on principle.
      The individual Indian nations actually individually declared war on Germany separately to the U.S. in case you didn't know.

    • @JonDoeNeace
      @JonDoeNeace 3 місяці тому +1

      The perception among Indian people is that despite being on stolen land, this is still their country before anyone else's.

    • @JonDoeNeace
      @JonDoeNeace 3 місяці тому

      So they felt bound by sheer principle and loyalty to what they perceive as their own lands before anyone else's, to make war with Germany in WW2.

    • @JonDoeNeace
      @JonDoeNeace 3 місяці тому +1

      Their principles were that this is their own country before anyone else's and they made formal declaration of war as the Navajo Nation against Germany, separate from USA's declaration of war.
      They went with their principles over grudges.
