This take is terrible!!! Jerry doesn’t do anything that doesn’t benefit Jerry. Look no further than his hiring practices, comments on kneeling, and/or flag. Nobody is saying hold him to 16 but objectively evaluating decisions he’s made should be on the table. When we talk about black unity this is the mindset that holds us back. I think the Washington Post article that published the photo along with it a seeking to find clarity on Jones racial views highlights an important point. You can help individual black people and still hold anti-black/racist sentiments. Those are not mutually exclusive. Slaveowners back in the day rationalized slavery by viewing blacks as racially inferior while freeing their slaves. Segregationist rationalized and justified segregation as a means to keep the races separate but equal all the while terrorizing blacks and destroying black neighborhoods. I found it interesting that his head coach told him not to go to the school that day but he disobey and went anyway and I also find it telling that he def was aware that racial segregation existed and he did have could not muster the courage to speak out or stop the injustice as he sought to do looking back. That ambivalence speaks to something. Full out racist, maybe not, but could be racially prejudice to certain things.
Just as an fyi, many white ppl didn’t do what Jerry did then and has done since. You’re giving him credit where it isn’t earned.

I think so since racism usually is built on ignorance. Just like sexists, racists make alot of generalizations about people, but if they ever come into contact with people that conflict with their worldview and find themselves having meaningful relationships with them I think it can potentially help. Also considering that racism was pretty much a cultural thing in the past and culture can so easily shift I don’t think it's unlikely that someone from the 60s could be 1000 times more liberal and understanding now. Some people get stuck in their ways, but most people change as the culture shifts.
