Cool, but I prefer to see a bit of the the painting process itself. It allow me to learn more.

    You absolute madman lol
I thought about painting my Twilight Imperium ships, you're right they have quite a bit of detail, but the sheer volume put me off, I don't know if I'd have the patience to actually finish =P

The primer is the most important for the longevity of your paint job (yes, more than the clearcoat). Of course, there was all that fine detail to preserve and spray takes it away.

I would have painted them grey with yellow accents and decals, but with so many ships and factions, I can see why you kept them mostly yellow.

Weird how you just put this up today when today was also the first ever game I've had of twilight imperium

I started to do just a wash on mine to bring out the details, but I wasn't happy with the results. Looks like I am going to have to try this method out. They look great! Twilight Imperium is such a stellar game. The ships definitely deserve the work you put into them. Could you post the paint colors you use as you go along?

I too would like to know about your finishing paints / varnishes. The minis I've coated are still tacky with the varnish I used.

That reminds me of the Naboo starfighter (the color)

Another great video , thank you Crabbok. Models definitely look better with the wash and highlights. A little surprised with your choice of colour for engine glow / barrel glow. I have never played Twilight Imperium. I will probably watch a play through video later today. Hmmm [ Looks at shelf full of games, empty wallet and scowling wife and wonders on the wisdom of researching yet another game system].

I would try a light matt varnish instead of the primer if you intend to keep the same colours.

job well done :) they look a lot better after the paint has been added. but i can only guess as to the time consuming for painting all the ships...

I've just bought it and have been undecided as to whether to paint it, but you've convinced me. I've painted Scythe (nothing else in the last 20 years) pretty well (IMHO) but this is obviously a monumental task. However, given how well my Scythe mechs have turned out, and how good yours looked even at the prime+base+wash stage, it should be easy to do a very basic job and still improve how they look.
I love that you've let the oil do all the work for the detail, then literally just added a tiny bit of white accent. So minimalist but extremely effective.
    1. Do you have video or photos somewhere of all the pieces painted?
    2. Any idea of the actual number of man-hours per faction? Is it worth me inviting some friends round for a painting party?

Can you tell me what types of paint you use? And varnish? Thanks.

I’m new to the hobby. For the white highlights at the end what kind of type of paint did you use? Base, dry, layer, contrast? Looking at citadel colors their is a lot of types of paints.

Not a huge fan of the fourth edition but to be fair I’ve only played it once as opposed to the third edition which I’ve played hundreds of times. I love the storyline in twilight imperium
