One thing I love about this game is the sound design. Most of what your hear here, especially during enemy encounters are these harsh, loud, strident and crushingly oppressive soundscapes that pump the tension up to 100, almost like something you would find on a Merzbow album if Merzbow decided to make an 8bit Harsh Noise record. And I love the way it plays with it's own volume, shifting up and down and between the sequences of dead silence, it creates a fantastic dynamic. It reminds me a lot of the early Silent Hill games, but less industrial in nature. Everything in this game is unpleasant to hear, the demon's screeches are absolutely blood curdling and even your own voice is very strange and unsettling. Honestly the decision to have all voices being done by the SAM text to speech program is kinda genius, it enhances the overall 8bit retro aesthetic of the game while also providing more unnerving sonic palletes into the mix due to the uncanny valley feeling it evokes. As much as this game gets praised I seriously think it's sound department should be appreciated more, it's very unique on it's own regard.
Agree 100% I love the original Silent Hill and when I took a look long ago about why that game was so good, I determined that a huge part of it was the sound..... on minute its dead silent, the next its got some strange unsettling background noise.... it was never predictable, never comfortable, never save..... which kept you on edge the entire time. This game did the same and I think was influenced by Silent Hill. Did you see that bathroom like area where the stuff started creeping over the mirror.... Silent Hill 3 had a bathroom that did that. Great stuff. Love this game. Love t he SAM text to speech. 10/10 game.
At that point one has to wonder what Garcia is going to do to John after that. Is Garcia possessed or is he thinking that John’s too deep into this that he’s going to have to be pulled in by force.
@@crimsondynamo615 I can't be sure. What I speculate is that Father Garcia forces John to come with him because, at this point, any moment that John has to think about what he's done will only crumble his faith, which Father Garcia cannot allow to happen. @@TGOArchive its funny how instead of john turning into a thrall he just went into a inducted rage lol even putting repent in the walls and an angel halo on one of the dead cultist.
i love the small fact that when it goes to the cutscenes in the first varation ending 1, since john is in the rain is starts cleaning him of blood, nice touch
yes, but what confuses me is that similarly father Garcia also has some blood on him which doesnt get washed away (perhaps indicating a similar dark past or hidden agenda?)
My favorite scene. At first i thought it was the Lord, and I didn't really like that he was willing to let me leave when so much was at stake, but i begrudgingly accepted it since I was ALSO so afraid and could sympathize with John. The story needed to give him an exit for my "not best route" and this was sufficient, i guess. Then it reveals that it was a flash back and we were talking about what happened with the Martins and i was like yoooooooooooooooooo and then in the end John admits that the devil showed up and tricked him and I was like YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this game is 12/10.
Wait a sec. That time when you see "Fight it, John"... Was that God himself giving you strength to at least try to resist? Like... the words same color and font when John talks to God in the flashback sequence!
@@ConvertingMinds nope. As we see, while possessed and even when not in the best ending, purple font. Gotta give it to the devs. They made sure everything can give you info. Even the color and the font. Hell, even uppercase and lowercase letters do somewhat give you info. When all are uppercase, it's very likely that a supernatural being is talking. When they are lowercase, human. It's used to great effect with Gary in fact. Lowercase letters while talking since he's "human" like all of us. But when he finally sheds his human shell: *"GARY DOES NOT LOVE YOU."*
2:19:31 for anyone wondering what john faith language is speaking here for exorcisming amy Here you go Latin: En nomine patri et Fili Spiritu Sancti. Google translate: In the name of the father and of the son and the holy spirit
Easter egg I found: When Gary Miller is answering the third question about Amy, the word despair flickers during this dialogue segment: “No matter. Once you have completed your journey (despair), she will be mine again.”
I feel this way when ice cold liquid comes into contact with my teeth. So uncomfortable. And yet, I still enjoy ice cream, milkshakes, and smoothies...
The question remains.... If you stay in the crucible room, can father Garcia hold out forever? Does he run out of ammo? Or do the thralls overwhelm him since he came with a shotgun and not the frickin ATF
The ATF are only useful for killing pets and arresting people for owning shoestrings(which by their own definition constitute a "machine gun"). Oh, and burning children to death, or murdering families because your shotgun had a barrel below an arbitrarily set length.
Sigh...I definitely need to play this through again. I didn't experience even a quarter of what's depicted here. My run: No elevator boss, no Gary fight, no super Miriam, didn't enter the crucible ("missed something in our search"), and the game ended right after I beat that part. My ending was the priest threatening me with the shotgun and the game just ending after that. I was left wondering why people were complaining the game was too hard.
Tell me why Tiffany's AI voice is the only one that actually sounds like a woman, yet they only used that voice for a secret boss that doesn't have any real lines.
Gary has some switch/hidden words in his text. I know one is ‘despair’ or ‘decay’. Another is ‘victim’ instead of sacrifice(?) for Amy as the context. He’s gotta be one of my favorites. (And that, reader, is how you make a portal to Hell)
This video was amazing, thank you! But you missed something. You can also get the Profane Sabbath Ending if you defeat Super Miriam but don’t exorcise Amy.
During 'Secret Cult 2', I can't remember if John was Possessed or Drugged while this was happening, but regardless of which he was I don't know if either option increased his strength in any way, but I do kind of like the implication that just John on his own is somehow strong enough to just completely tear people apart, like he supplemented his waning Faith with a Gym Membership or something
Had this been released in the early days of game This would have gone in history as the scariest game ever, and an pillar to the horror genre Its that amazing
Wait so does nothing change if you get possessed in the 46:40 bossfight and kill her? I saw some extra dialoge when Markiplier had it happen, but he restarted the fight so I'm not sure if it changes the outcome.
@@ConvertingMinds Thanks, ^^ I'm assuming it just makes the ending where you have to either go with Garcia or her impossible to get, so thanks for telling me ^^ Do you know what the ending was?
If you kill her and let the officer die in the hospital and don't manage to take out the unholy trinity (secret bosses) then you will get that variant of the ending where García forces you to go with him by pointing at you with the shotgun

Theory: father garcia awakened V1 but forgot to set it to not kill angels
1:14:49 this is the most scared I ever was in any horror game (mainly bc I actually played this blind)
I was pretty scared at this point too, it's utterly terrifying, John gets so abused.
Then Father Garcia shows up like an angel and it's like all the fear washes away, "Don't be afraid!"
I don't know if anybody noticed this but in chapter one John's cross is golden while in chapters 2 and 3 it is silver and bronze, respectively.
his faith is getting weaker, in the true ending its gold again
Are we sure it’s bronze cross and not a wooden one
@@mayonnaiseonahotdog7674 I think it is bronze because even the Fandom page states it.

@@TGOArchive yes
@@TGOArchive its funny how instead of john turning into a thrall he just went into a inducted rage lol even putting repent in the walls and an angel halo on one of the dead cultist.
One of my favorite parts of the game tbh, it’s nice to see john being a violent murderous beast instead of just the satanists
a buff exorcist would be pretty cool.

i love the small fact that when it goes to the cutscenes in the first varation ending 1, since john is in the rain is starts cleaning him of blood, nice touch
yes, but what confuses me is that similarly father Garcia also has some blood on him which doesnt get washed away (perhaps indicating a similar dark past or hidden agenda?)

It's very tastefully done, very effectively shows the ethereal/powerful nature of an angel or god.

Wait a sec. That time when you see "Fight it, John"... Was that God himself giving you strength to at least try to resist?
Like... the words same color and font when John talks to God in the flashback sequence!
Hmm, makes sense. I thought it was Lisa.
But when he finally sheds his human shell:
*"GARY DOES NOT LOVE YOU."*
If you are talking about the flashback to the house where God saves him, that's not God that's the devil.
Yeah, that’s God. He’s the only one that uses that color and FULL CAPS together.
@@localmenace3043 that's not him.... that's the Devil...
2:19:31 for anyone wondering what john faith language is speaking here for exorcisming amy Here you go Latin: En nomine patri et Fili Spiritu Sancti. Google translate: In the name of the father and of the son and the holy spirit
after binging the series in the past hours I can say this is definitely one of my favourite pieces of horror in video games and it is just PHENOMENAL
Easter egg I found: When Gary Miller is answering the third question about Amy, the word despair flickers during this dialogue segment:
“No matter. Once you have completed your journey (despair), she will be mine again.”
1:20:18 When the McDonald's Sprite hits
I feel this way when ice cold liquid comes into contact with my teeth. So uncomfortable. And yet, I still enjoy ice cream, milkshakes, and smoothies...
McDonalds sprite being injected into johns veins
@@Kaibutsu_lol that would actually feel like that. I think.
The question remains....
If you stay in the crucible room, can father Garcia hold out forever? Does he run out of ammo? Or do the thralls overwhelm him since he came with a shotgun and not the frickin ATF
it think he brought like at least 50/100 ammo and if he ran out of ammo he can use his cross but i think all of the thralls is already dead
The ATF are only useful for killing pets and arresting people for owning shoestrings(which by their own definition constitute a "machine gun"). Oh, and burning children to death, or murdering families because your shotgun had a barrel below an arbitrarily set length.
@@Raycherry348 and the cults?
@@Raycherry348 lmao thats alot for a shotgun

Sigh...I definitely need to play this through again. I didn't experience even a quarter of what's depicted here.
My run: No elevator boss, no Gary fight, no super Miriam, didn't enter the crucible ("missed something in our search"), and the game ended right after I beat that part. My ending was the priest threatening me with the shotgun and the game just ending after that. I was left wondering why people were complaining the game was too hard.

Interesting that, when Gary is talking, when he says "Me" it's capitalized, like a proper noun.

I am surprised ya didn't get the Seal Lady inside the elevator once ya went to the 5th floor during the puzzle where you need to reach the 7th one.
The theme during Amy's exorcism made me cry
This game taught me so much Latin...
Gary has some switch/hidden words in his text. I know one is ‘despair’ or ‘decay’. Another is ‘victim’ instead of sacrifice(?) for Amy as the context. He’s gotta be one of my favorites.
(And that, reader, is how you make a portal to Hell)

During 'Secret Cult 2', I can't remember if John was Possessed or Drugged while this was happening, but regardless of which he was I don't know if either option increased his strength in any way, but I do kind of like the implication that just John on his own is somehow strong enough to just completely tear people apart, like he supplemented his waning Faith with a Gym Membership or something
This lines up with the song king of pain I'm trying to line them up. 1:20:44

It blocks the good ending if you let Lisa die, will direct you to the ending where Garcia points the gun at you.
In the Demo version this would lead to an Ending, but in the Final version it triggers Lisa's death permanently.
