Imagine if Lin as Piragua guy was reading a biography of Alexander Hamilton 😳
Omg
This is wrinkling my brain!
Chernow's biography.
The part where the song You'll Be Back plays as a ringtone was AWESOME! That's also my favorite song in Hamilton
Mine too!
When I saw it in theatres and heard that I laughed a bit cause I thought it was so cool and told my friend that doesn’t watch musicals about this and she thought it was cool as well
i thought only i noticed that
Dude Johnathan groff is phenomenal
@@kadensackett116 He is great. I can't belive he was also Kristoff in the Frozen movies.
Add one to the list: The glasses Miranda's character wears belonged to his grandfather as well as the book he reads.
Aw that’s so sweet 🥺
The clave rhythm is not borrowed from "America." Clave rhythm is a cornerstone of many Latin musical styles, which Bernstein also borrowed from for West Side Story. Miranda borrowed it from the source.
Yes!!!!!
I came to the comments just to write this myself. It’s so annoying to hear Lin’s use of the clave being called borrowing from Bernstein and “America.” Especially because in “America” Bernstein started with the clave, the rhythm that is that is key to salsa, rhumba and other Caribbean Latin music and then switched to more Mexican rhythms for the rest of the song.
Watch Howard Ho for the better explanation.
Literally came here for this comment and thankfully others beat me to it. Can’t borrow from someone else if it’s part of your own culture/heritage/upbringing
Thank you!!! Came to say this!! The composer of West Side Story used it and was inspired by it, but a huge cornerstone like you mentioned!
Wish they'd mentioned that in addition to it being a little bonus nugget, "You'll Be Back" is a fun bit of exposition for Nina as Kevin is calling about her tuition... Stanford is subtly saying she'll be back!
This movie made me cry, I felt so proud as a Dominican that was born in NYC and was raised in DR. Seeing myself represented on screen (regardless of some details being a bit off in the film) and seeing Latin culture all over was amazing. Made me very proud.
This will be Lin-Manuel Miranda's first Oscar awards to be an EGOT!
Another reason to love Lin-Manuel Miranda
The clave rhythm 3-2 is a staple of Latin music. It is west Side Story that borrowed from the culture. Sondheim did not invent it. Come on now MsMojo!
You are right…Sondheim didn’t invent it; neither did Bernstein. Sondheim was the lyricist on WEST SIDE STORY not the composer.
I LOVED The A Train part. I love that song and that part was such a cool little nod to it.
Hamolton easter egg was so satisfying 😍
My mom, sister’s, brother-in-law and I all watched it the other night and when that came on it my older sister asked us “Do you recognize that?” And it took me a minute but I did figure it out. It was really cool.
I really loved it like there was nothing wrong with it.
The cast the diversity the story line it was amazing I'm glad they didn't mess up this Broadway musical.
Like they did with Cats whoever made that movie needs help it was so bad and I actually like the Broadway musical.
In the heights movie is so awesome of a movie.
I still can't believe people are actually complaining about this not being "diverse" enough, like WTF? I swear people like that must just never be happy, it must be exhausting to look for things to be offended about
Is not so much about diversity as it is about true representation. Not all Hispanics are light skinned with curly hair.
It is diverse, but there is always room for improvement as well.
Fun fact, that's also the definition of the average Twitter user
@@marietaylor208 Nina, Kevin, Daniela, Sonny, graffity guy, and countless background characters, they all seem darker-skinned to me.
Another Broadway cameo: The owner of the dry cleaners in the movie was Patrick Page, an actor who’s most famous for his role as Hades in Hadestown.
During 96,000 they did a nice nod to Busdy Berkeley and Footlight Parade.
And Esther Williams.
I’m just gonna mention, I absolutely love The beautiful brain of Lin-Manuel Miranda. I mean, who can come up with all of this?! He needs to make more musicals. He is a absolute genius, they should put his name next to the greats, like Thomas Jefferson! You know, after he catches up with all he missed 😉
Kevin's favorite song was "You'll Be Back," I daresay. 🤣🤣
It was the "on hold" music, not his ringtone, but yeah sure that too
A lot more cameos came. Javier Munoz also made a cameo.
So did Seth Stuart
Lin's mom and dad in Breathe
Was Lin’s eyes watering while he was talking about you’ll be back?
Looks like he was 😏😏😩😩🤞🤞
@Amber omg that just made my day 😭😭😩😩
When we heard You’ll Be Back in the movie me and my entire family freaked out. Some of us didn’t get it at first but once we all got it it was awesome. I LOVED Christopher and Lin’s competing scene! It was awesome. All the cameos from other actors (and Lin’s parents) were so cool as well. And a whole lot of the movie was giving me West Side Story vibes 😂😂 All I’m learning in this video (and from many other things) is that Lin Manuel Miranda is such a clever, awesome, genius!!
This movie is beautiful. I laughed and cried, danced and sang along. (Basically I did everything but sit still.) One of my favorite movies! ♥️
yes more in the heights content 😍
In the heights is AMAZING!!!
One that lyrics change, you forgot to mention was the club scene. On Broadway Nina and Benny get into a fight and try to avoid eachother because mr Rosario fired him at the same time the bodago gets trashed, in the movie Usnavi and Vanessa get into a fight because Usnavi wouldn’t dance with her and goes straight to aubuella song.
The clave isn't borrowed from West Side Story nor was it invented by Bernstein. How could you get that one so obviously wrong?
You've probably already gotten mad heat about this but the clave rhythm was not “borrowed“ from Leonard Bernstein, Leonard Bernstein “borrowed“ the son clave 3-2 rhythm from afro-Cuban music. There are two clave patterns, 3-2 or 2-3. Bernstein and Miranda both use the son 3-2 pattern.
Overall I enjoyed it. Nice summer movie the cinematography in the big numbers and in general is AMAZING!
very very great epic list I like it a lot great job mis mojo one of my very favorite list ever ❤
I was really confused the first time I watched the movie bc I already knew all the words to 96,000 so when he said Tiger Woods instead of Donald Trump I was like damn😂 I forgot we don’t talk about him no mo💯
I saw “In The Heights” recently, it was absolutely amazing. Lin Manuel Miranda is a genius! 😄
Lin Manuel Miranda is a genius. Period.
I love the telephone bit
There’s at least 8 potential Oscar nominations in this film
Watching it next week. Now I can enjoy it more:)
Enjoy!
i literally just watched this today x
What a wonderful film 👏🏻👏🏻🇵🇷❤️
You forgot to mention Patrick Page being the guy buying Nina’s father’s shop. He played in Hadestown and Hunchback of Notre Dame the Musical.
I love most of them is the ladies from the salon song in it!
"barely known musical hamilton"
me
BARELY KNOWN
*OH BOY WERE THEY WRONG*
I laughed so hard When I heard "You'll be back" for the hold music
Was I the only one who thought that the daughter wear the shells was a Moana reference? Also Usnavi in the movie played the little cousin Sonny in the 2012 ITH Broadway cast. Talk about full circle moment.
3:19 Miranda is everywhere!😱
One of new favorite movies
I love it so much
good video
Favorite film of 2021
Wow I see Duck tales in a new light now
You do understand that the 3-2 clave is the heart of most Latin American sounds and songs and that Lin didn't borrow it but rather us it authentically. Leonard Bernstein was just REFERENCING the clave. Get your facts right.
yes
I'm offended you think I missed Christopher Jackson's cameo 😂
Top 10 Frozen two details we love
In The Heights have more Clave influence than West Side Story, and it's not "borrowed" as it is one of the backbone to Latin Music
One big detail overlooked by many, is the absence of GOYA products in the Bodega. GOYA was/is a top food staple for Latinos. Yet, when the CEO openly endorsed Trump, many Latinos boycotted the products. The ill feelings were exacerbated when Ivanka Trump pandered and posed with a can of GOYA beans. It was so obvious what she was doing and it offended many. Yet, GOYA continues to be on the shelves of many Bodegas, just not in Usnavi's.
The scene where the Mr Softy truck breaks down and Lin Manuel’s character is talking about his cart being successful, did they edit that part out? I watched it on HBO Max and I don’t remember that scene
It’s post credits.
@@aurorasb.223 gotcha thank you
I just watched it today and I LOVED it, even though they didn’t really dig into Nina and Abuelas personalities much, I loved the movie as a whole
Yuh yuh
Thật sự là mình rất thích âm nhạc những năm trước đây hơn là những bài hát hot hit hiện giờ. Kèm theo giọng hát của Đức Phúc thì ôi trời siêu hay luôn
👍👍👍
Top 10 hey arnold episodes

Clave is bigger than any show, bigger than West Side Story.
Who put Valentina in there??? I want to shake them by the hand and say thank you
Darkwing
Wait barely known Hamilton omg seriously??
I💞😅😂🤗😘🎵🎶🙆🎥
Am 1st
I saw In The Heights last night in theater with my friend Kathlyn for my birthday. I thought the movie was okay. It was a bit predictable. Although I wish all hold music was "You'll Be Back".
Aw that's to bad. Its just a homage to latin culture and a feel good movie.
