I had him on the cover of my upper deck baseball card pricing guide I love the big hurt frank Thomas best player I've ever seen I want a old timer game for all who once played cause ur never to old❤😊
You should definitely check out the Judge Dredd movies. The Stallone version is more like the comic. Dredd with Karl Urban is gritty and ultra violent and it's pretty badass. Both have their merits.
Just to let you know....Cutthroat Island was a game that was made because of a movie. The movie Cutthroat Island was released in 1995 starring the very attractive Geena Davis as the lead role of the female pirate(captain Morgan) looking to get her fathers treasure owed to her before her evil uncle can get it. A great pirate movie in my opinion and if you’re a fan of the game then you should definitely check out the film so it all makes sense.
Yes! A Bill Alfonso reference! HEY DADDY, I'M GONNA CALL THIS ONE RIGHT...DOWN...THE...MIDDLE! Some of these games take me back, for sure. I think I agree with you in regard to the Simpson's games, whereas back in the day I wasn't so fond of them, but if I had the time to revisit them, I might think otherwise, especially with the Itchy and Scratchy game. I do remember actually beating it when I was younger and thinking it was fun. Spawn was always one of my favorite games when I was younger. I didn't beat the game "Clean", but I still managed to beat it, nonetheless. Also, the same thing with Spider-Man and Venom. I never got the hate from people because it was a one player game. And? They made Final Fight a one player game after it was two player co-op in the arcade. I really enjoyed the NBA Jam games, and it wasn't until many years later that I found out that there was a College Slam game which, considering I was big into Villanova, was a boon for me. Still, can't argue with the massive selection of teams which, back in 1996, was really impressive. I tried Judge Dredd and Demolition Man, but for some reason I wasn't too good at either game. On the other hand, I wasn't good at Revolution X, but being a big Aerosmith stan, it didn't stop me from trying to beat it, anyway! Great video, John!
Bart's Nightmare and Virtual Bart were among those games I rented several times. They were more like guilty pleasures (I had issues with several of the stages while had fun with the others).
I think this is an awesome idea for a video. I remember growing up in the 90s there were several games I played that were by Acclaim and I liked most of them. People don't really show much appreciation for that company. They don't always produce a great hit and there are quite a number of bad games from them but they do produce a lot of great games
I remember being sick and home from school playing Frank Thomas Baseball on Sega Genesis in the 90s. My friend when I was a kid we played a lot of Ultimate Mortal Komat and a different friends dad didn't like the blood in Mortal Kombat.
Agreed, I'm always looking for a good random sports game in a sea of bad sports games. It's hard to find since so many youtubers just ignore sports games altogether.
So only Mortal Kombat 2 was made by Acclaim. However since you spoke on all the Mortal Kombat games, I like 2 the most. My fav finishing move is Kitana's kiss of death. It's unique because all the other finishers are ripping a body off while hers she just kisses in your ear.
Definitely rented these from the video store. Virtual Bart got the simpsons absurd humor right, I still like it. Spawn was a must have action game at the time. Spirit of the 90s comic boom.
MK3 having the run button and combos instantly makes it more playable to go back to but man did MK2 ever leave an impact on you back then. It really felt like you had the arcade to play at home with your friends all taking turns during a sleep over staying up all night.
18:10 if I'm not mistaken, this is speedy Gonzales game was used as the model for a rom hack called Sonic the hedgehog 4 that came out for the Sega Genesis where you play as Sonic and run through levels really fast and the checkpoints are Mario in a cage. So you basically it's the same game as speedy Gonzales but instead you're Sonic the hedgehog. I think this is that game
I actually like the Stallone “Judge Dredd” movie. It’s a fun, somewhat campy action movie. The plot is pretty good, too, I feel. I know that’s not a popular opinion, but it is my opinion. And I also really like the SNES game. I rented it a few times back in the ‘90’s. I haven’t finished it, but I plan on playing it again sometime and doing so. I give it an A. 👍👍
21:01 you failed to mention that cutthroat Island was actually based off of a movie that came out at the time. I get that you don't do your research and granted it wasn't a very successful film when it came out and could be the reason why geena Davis stopped being famous but anyways I think it would have been worth mentioning that was a movie tie-in even though it wasn't very well known.
The Genesis version of Mortal Kombat was meant to be used with the 6 button controller which was already out before that. Using the 3 button controller for that or Street FIghter 2 was doing it wrong. Also, the SNES version has some input lag which is why the Genesis version plays better. The visuals (blood aside) and sound on the SNES are much better as always though. SNES MK2 was better than the Genesis version across the board though.
I was actually surprised by how many of these games I actually have played (though most of them on emulation)- Judge Dredd, Mortal Kombats, Spider-Man beatemups all the Simpsons games, Spawn... and yeah, they are very much rental games. Licenses or stuff developed by other companies, often done kinda cheap and quick but often decent enough to be worth a try. Not a full purchasing commitment most of the time, like the Bart's Nightmare or Virtua Bart, but certainly a rental. Though for my money, Judge Dredd at least felt like a game worthy of being owned. Spawn... was good, but I remember it being a better looker than a player? Felt a little stiff to control.
Now I wanna know more about your involvement with wrestling. I'm 2 years into starting my career with wrestling, just turned 39, so yeah, it's never too late to start.
Genesis version of the Mortal Kombat games do have proper controls thanks to the 6 button controller. it's actually the correct arcade controls since the cabinet uses 5 buttons while Genesis gets an extra block button.
Loving the video and awesome to watch. I'm just confused Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is not among the list after seeing 1,2, and 3. I guessing its because its published from Williams Entertainment or Midway?
I played that Justice League game a lot. It wasn't bad, but is super hard. Green Arrow was the best becuase you could spam range attacks. As a huge DC Comics fan, it was right up my alley. Batman Forever on the other hand - ugh! An F may not even be low enough for that game! I will still defend the SNES Mortal Kombat. Even without blood, it was so much better than the Genesis version in graphics, sound, controls, etc. The changed fatalaties weren't all bad either - Sub Zero's freeze and shatter move originated there! I think you missed the sequel to Maximum Carnage - Seperation Anxiety.
Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage was published under LJN. John did leave Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and Porky Pig: Haunted Holiday out of the Acclaim list.
@@NESbrownbearhugs Oh, you're right - Maximum Carnage was at LJN, though Wikipedia lists Acclaim. I don't know if there was some kind of co-production. Carnage though is on the list, while Seperation Anxiety is not. I do remember Maximum Carnage's boss red cartirdge!
I totally understand the Populous rating even though I don't agree with it! It's one of those games that either clicks with you or doesn't, and it clicked with me just fine. Ironically, one of the best versions of Populous out there now is the Nintendo DS version, which is one of the VERY FEW DS games which runs at 60 FPS! :o
Doesn't seem to the to be a Genre he was into. Mean he said Civilization when referencing the type of game when Populous is the grand daddy of the god game genre.
i don't remember a bunch of ljn titles off the top of my head, but a few they had on NES that i quite liked were jaws, karate kid, t&c surf, friday the 13th
Spider Man and Carnage is probably the only S tier Acclaim game in my opinion(I played the crap out of the Genesis version). Their good sports games and Mortal Kombat probably mostly A tier.
Bart's Nightmare is an odd go-to Snes game for me. Every now and then, when I want to play snes and I don't have a lot of time, I sometimes choose it as I like most of the subgames. The street scene is pretty bad, though.
Growing up reading comics I enjoyed Justice League Task Force for what it was. Not a great game but a fun time all the same & it was nice to see Green Arrow in a fighter.
Bart's Nightmare is one of the better Simpsons games in my opinion. A little unpolished in some areas but for the most part it's decently made and has some good variety.
I ranked Capcom SNES games ua-cam.com/video/eMtpfAXdQl8/v-deo.html
how ya feelin?
George was 43. Wow, so old! I'm 45.
Frank Thomas played for the Chicago Sox and currently does boner pill commercials. 🤷
Frank Thomas played primarily for the White Sox and he was an absolute beast with the bat. He carried my fantasy baseball team for a couple of years.
I didn’t know he played for anyone but the White Sox. I stopped watching baseball after the strike. Far as I know Nolan Ryan still plates for Texas 😂
I had him on the cover of my upper deck baseball card pricing guide I love the big hurt frank Thomas best player I've ever seen I want a old timer game for all who once played cause ur never to old❤😊

Pencil and paper fantasy? Lol
He played briefly for the Athletics and Blue Jays at the end of his career but I can only think of him as a member of the White Sox!
Right down the middle daddy!!!!
Bill Alfonso reference 😂
Bearing Populous as a kid was one of my big video game accomplishments.
The only Acclaim SNES games I actually purchased back then were NBA Jam TE, MK 2, MK 3, Maximum Carnage (Green Jelly rules).
Populous may not look visually impressive but it is insanely addictive once you get the basics down. Give it another chance, John
A Fonzy reference. Outstanding!
Henry Wrinkler would love JohnRiggs.
You should definitely check out the Judge Dredd movies. The Stallone version is more like the comic. Dredd with Karl Urban is gritty and ultra violent and it's pretty badass. Both have their merits.
The world of the Stallone movie is more like the comic. The portrayal of Dredd himself (and most of the supporting cast ) is way off.
Spawn and Venom were both created by Todd Mcfarlane. Thats why both are so popular at that time.
Not even a minute into the video & there’s an ECW reference heh. Bravo 👏
"Hey Daddy" Glad I was not the only one who caught that. ECdub!
got it too. had to do a double take. i can hear the whistle in my mind.

The Cutthroat Island game was based off a movie with Geena Davis and Matthew Modine
That Bankrupt Carolco Pictures
@@ianrangersNo wonder I never saw their name ever again.
Movie practically tanked poor Geena Davis’ then-rising career. Best she could get after that was playing Stuart Little’s mom lol
The Big Hurt was huge in the 90s, just like Griffey.
Fun fact: your cap says S Tier, which translates into Dutch (stier) means bull. 🙃
and I'm full of it so it checks out.

Cool video :). You missed one, though. The Spider-Man and Venom sequel, Separation Anxiety.
Ohhhh! The Manager of Champions Bill Alfonzo DADDY!!! very cool call back!
Love the Bill Alfonso reference
I consider Super Smash TV on the SNES a solid "S," while the 16-bit Batman Forever on any platform is a solid "F."
It was probably worse on Gameboy.
Ugh, I can still hear that horrible title theme. It's like an icepick to the ears.
Batman forever sounds like a threat 😂
Maximun Carnage is LJN!
Bart's Nightmare and Virtual Bart were among those games I rented several times. They were more like guilty pleasures (I had issues with several of the stages while had fun with the others).
