If you’re Catholic head to confession at least once a month, but I recommend more from experience. This is a very hard sin to beat and only the grace of God can help you do it. If your not a Catholic, pray to the Lord, tell him you’re sorry and will try not do it anymore with his help. Here’s an Act of Contrition to help you. Thanks for addressing this topic, I've struggled with this all my life and just recently decided to weed out all my habitual sin so I can fully connectand honor God. I'm doing better but it's still a struggle at times. It's almost like I'm good for about a month but the tension slowly builds and I know I'm going to fail. Essentially, he's saying that masturbation isn't a sin by itself, but doing it can LEAD you to sin As someone who struggles with masturbation addiction I can 100% say that it leads to a sinful dead existence, I have been clean for nearly 8 days, its a struggle to keep myself in check, but compared to the MANY years that I was masturbating to being clean now? I battle the urges by doing daily and nightly devotionals and earnestly praying every morning and evening for the Holy Spirit to come down and embolden and strengthen me so I can combat the urges. Being heavily dependent on masturbation leads one to be numb to everything, all you want is that fix and u will do it as often as you can. I urge you all, take a good hard look at your life if you masturbate. Is it something that you center your life on? Can you not go through a day without having your fix? Do you plan out your day with the intention to have breaks to pleasure yourself? And other such questions, if the answer is yes, you have an addiction problem. Many Christians believe it is a sin because it would fall under the LUST category. Therefore, if LUST is a sin, then masturbation would fall under the definition of sin. Before I go further, let's answer some quick questions. What is masturbation? People will go off with the definitions here. Keep it simple. It's the sexual gratification someone gives to themselves alone. Typically masturbation occurs due to the sexual stress that occurs. It should be noted that sexual stress happens to babies in the womb and those that are born. In fact many babies or toddlers in dealing with the stress or discomfort will try to relieve themselves. They're not sinning. It happens to older people. No one escapes sexual stress in one form or another. OK, onward to the bible. No where in the bible does it refer to lusting as a sin. NO WHERE. In fact it separates LUST from SIN. For example, James 1:15, "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin". As you can see, LUST and SIN are separated. Romans 6:12, "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof". I'm using the King James Version reluctantly because it uses the word "lust". However, lust can and probably should be translated as desire as it is in most translations. But what about what Jesus says in Matthew 5:28, "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." People have misinterpreted this verse and in fact the whole chapter for thousands of years. Jesus is trying to teach how sin develops. It doesn't just come from nowhere. It begins in the heart and when it manifests, it manifests as sin. Yes, in the heart is lust and murder, but sin, as is taught in the bible, is not what's in a person, but what comes out. I'm sure there'll be many who will try to contradict this quick less and contradiction to the video. Have at it. I've felt guilted by this thought for a while now and one source I found said that if I have to ask if it's okay, that's the Lord through my conscience giving me pause. Whether The Bible directly addresses anything or condemns everything else around it, if it feels sinful in nature, then it probably is. Please pray for me. You be encouraged and know that God give you deliverance in this area, repent of it and ask God to give you the strength to deny your flesh in crucial moments of temptation. The more you tell your flesh no the stronger you become in the spirit, it's a daily process however you can overcome this. Daily hunger for God, prayer, bible study, fasting and fellowship with other believers will keep you grounded. I'm going to add you to my prayer list when I go before the lord in prayer intercession.

Consider how nowadays its so easy for someone to access explicit content online now(accident? I think not), consider how prevelent the idea of masturbation being normal (in schools and different walks of life) despite the clear damage it does to marriages and relationships (lack of intimacy, trust and ultimately leading to divorce).. I don't think it's an accident that the young are being so sexualised (TV, movies, video games etc) and all these things ultimately leads to the prevelence of sexual gratification that against nature, name another species that masturbates (I'll wait), its quite clear its just a case of humans dictating their own life and refusing what is natural (marriage, procreation etc) 2. what path in life did you take, what people are you around, what do you do in your private time that led to the act.. This is perhaps most important, do you hang around people that condone and even encourage sexual ideas constantly in very inappropriate and unnecessary settings (peer group making sexual jokes or bragging regarding sexual lifestyles), do you watch and listen to things that glorify sex?... Well then maybe you need to reconsider you life choices Whether you believe its a sin or not, doesn't change the fact your body feels grieved after you do it.. You don't ignore your body when it tells you you're in pain, you don't ignore when it says you're hungry so why do you continue to do the same act that leads to or being grieved. It's something that I've struggled with my entire life. As well as a pornography addiction. I'm also 2 weeks clean from that. It's a struggle that I deal with every single day. Some days are harder than others. I know that I can't do this without God. But I could also use some prayers to help fight this spiritual warfare I have going on. It is true that you could develop an addiction just like anything else. I know a woman who is literally addicted to buying purses and her husband told her that if she continues to spend $1000s on purses that he is going to divorce her. We are a slave to anything that we obey. Either way, do everything in word and in deed in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and to the glory of the father.

I just want to point out, that I use extreme moderation and control, and I don't watch porn or picture anything lustful. At the risk of being crude, i just get it done and move on. It's not something i feel controls me anymore. I don't think this is an issue under my knowledge and admittedly flawed comprehension of the Bible's teaching. Practically speaking, there is more benefit to controlled masturbation without material, than to nofap. And in a marriage it can work miracles. You're more relaxed, focused, creative, considerate, and you even have more libido. This craze of porn and masturbation is a huge reason our culture has become so obsessed with sex. If you cut out the cancerous porn and the slavery of addiction, you have a better man. Women? I haven't don't crap to research for women, so i won't comment.

I have overcome this a few times, believing that it was wrong, but it would eventually come back, usually in the form of dreams or something that would catch my eye, and that would affect me throughout the day until I took care of my needs. When I was unmarried, I was always fearful that God would not allow me to marry the woman I desired because of my perceived weakness, and this fear in turn would always manifest itself in being unable to approach that woman, in sort of a self-fulfilling fear. I always misread Matthew 5:28 to mean that a man cannot desire any woman sexually. Now I realize that the translators should have indicated that this word translated "woman" is actually a word that is generally translated to mean a married woman, and that Jesus was actually talking about desiring to take another man's wife. Falsehoods abound within Christianity, and it is such a shame! Adding to God's Word is just as wrong for a Christian to do as it is for a cultist to do.We need to be honest and admit that the Bible does not always conform to what we want it to say. Rather than reading into Scriptures, (Eisegesis) we need to read from the Scriptures (Exegesis) and properly divide the word of truth.
Well you make a good point; the passage about committing adultery in your mind does certainly imply with other men's wives. But does that not also mean that lusting over even single women whilst you're single is sinful? There is a difference between acknowledging that a woman is beautiful (not lust), and dwelling on lustful thoughts about her. There is nothing wrong with desiring and being attracted to a certain woman, but again dwelling on lustful thoughts about her is another thing entirely. And of course, lusting over your wife is perfectly fine. What do you think the Song of Solomon is all about? The only reason falsehoods arise in Christianity is because uninformed, ignorant people spout their malformed opinions on a certain topic, usually because either they don't fear God and respect the truth, they're using it to manipulate other Christians, or maybe they themselves have been beaten with that particular stick and were too afraid to look into the matter.

I think the general answer to this question is that married people shouldn't put themselves in situation that expose their partner and make them vulnerable to evil things. That's why the family comes first. If for instance a Christian man is offered millions for a job that will keep him miles away long term from his family; the wise option is to turn down that Job because it will be unrealistic for his wife to stay that long alone without compromising in anyway. If you’re Catholic head to confession at least once a month, but I recommend more from experience. This is a very hard sin to beat and only the grace of God can help you do it. As someone who struggles with masturbation addiction I can 100% say that it leads to a sinful dead existence, I have been clean for nearly 8 days, its a struggle to keep myself in check, but compared to the MANY years that I was masturbating to being clean now? I feel more of a person than I ever have. I battle the urges by doing daily and nightly devotionals and earnestly praying every morning and evening for the Holy Spirit to come down and embolden and strengthen me so I can combat the urges. Since I began earnestly praying and giving myself over to the bible and its teachings, the urge to look at dirty stuff has gone down and it is getting easier to combat the urge to do so.
Being heavily dependent on masturbation leads one to be numb to everything, all you want is that fix and u will do it as often as you can. Eventually, it will take up a lot of your thoughts and you will plan out your day around it. It was a horrible existence looking back and I have done a lot while addicted to it that I regret. I urge you all, take a good hard look at your life if you masturbate. Is it something that you center your life on? Can you not go through a day without having your fix? Do you plan out your day with the intention to have breaks to pleasure yourself? And other such questions, if the answer is yes, you have an addiction problem. Addiction is a sin that leads to having a dead sinful existence.
So no, Masturbation isn't a sin, but overdoing it leads to a LIFE of sin and porn addiction. If you can discipline, REALLY discipline yourself to only do it on a rare occasion, more power to you, keep it to a rare occasion. As for me? Many Christians believe it is a sin because it would fall under the LUST category. Therefore, if LUST is a sin, then masturbation would fall under the definition of sin.
Before I go further, let's answer some quick questions. What is masturbation? People will go off with the definitions here. Keep it simple. It's the sexual gratification someone gives to themselves alone. Typically masturbation occurs due to the sexual stress that occurs. It should be noted that sexual stress happens to babies in the womb and those that are born. In fact many babies or toddlers in dealing with the stress or discomfort will try to relieve themselves. They're not sinning. It happens to older people. No one escapes sexual stress in one form or another.
OK, onward to the bible. No where in the bible does it refer to lusting as a sin. NO WHERE. In fact it separates LUST from SIN. For example, James 1:15, "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin". As you can see, LUST and SIN are separated. Romans 6:12, "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof". I'm using the King James Version reluctantly because it uses the word "lust". However, lust can and probably should be translated as desire as it is in most translations.
But what about what Jesus says in Matthew 5:28, "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." People have misinterpreted this verse and in fact the whole chapter for thousands of years. Jesus is trying to teach how sin develops. It doesn't just come from nowhere. It begins in the heart and when it manifests, it manifests as sin. Yes, in the heart is lust and murder, but sin, as is taught in the bible, is not what's in a person, but what comes out.
I'm sure there'll be many who will try to contradict this quick less and contradiction to the video. Have at it.

I've felt guilted by this thought for a while now and one source I found said that if I have to ask if it's okay, that's the Lord through my conscience giving me pause. I'd like to address some aspect of masturbation that I don't see anyone else addressing
1. What got you so sexually stimulated in the 1st place that led to masturbation? Consider how nowadays its so easy for someone to access explicit content online now(accident? I think not), consider how prevelent the idea of masturbation being normal (in schools and different walks of life) despite the clear damage it does to marriages and relationships (lack of intimacy, trust and ultimately leading to divorce).. I don't think it's an accident that the young are being so sexualised (TV, movies, video games etc) and all these things ultimately leads to the prevelence of sexual gratification that against nature, name another species that masturbates (I'll wait), its quite clear its just a case of humans dictating their own life and refusing what is natural (marriage, procreation etc)
2. what path in life did you take, what people are you around, what do you do in your private time that led to the act.. This is perhaps most important, do you hang around people that condone and even encourage sexual ideas constantly in very inappropriate and unnecessary settings (peer group making sexual jokes or bragging regarding sexual lifestyles), do you watch and listen to things that glorify sex?... Well then maybe you need to reconsider you life choices

It's definitely a hard struggle. Today has been extremely hard. The temptation and urge has been so strong today. I've been clean for about 2 and a half weeks now. It's something that I've struggled with my entire life. As well as a pornography addiction. I'm also 2 weeks clean from that. It's a struggle that I deal with every single day. Some days are harder than others. I know that I can't do this without God. But I could also use some prayers to help fight this spiritual warfare I have going on. I just want to point out, that I use extreme moderation and control, and I don't watch porn or picture anything lustful. At the risk of being crude, i just get it done and move on. Practically speaking, there is more benefit to controlled masturbation without material, than to nofap. And in a marriage it can work miracles. Confess your sins to God and live a holy. I suggest people keep following the bible to learn what sins are sin. I found it humbled me when I saw the sins I didn't understand.
I have overcome this a few times, believing that it was wrong, but it would eventually come back, usually in the form of dreams or something that would catch my eye, and that would affect me throughout the day until I took care of my needs.
When I was unmarried, I was always fearful that God would not allow me to marry the woman I desired because of my perceived weakness, and this fear in turn would always manifest itself in being unable to approach that woman, in sort of a self-fulfilling fear.
I always misread Matthew 5:28 to mean that a man cannot desire any woman sexually. Now I realize that the translators should have indicated that this word translated "woman" is actually a word that is generally translated to mean a married woman, and that Jesus was actually talking about desiring to take another man's wife.
Falsehoods abound within Christianity, and it is such a shame! Adding to God's Word is just as wrong for a Christian to do as it is for a cultist to do.We need to be honest and admit that the Bible does not always conform to what we want it to say. Rather than reading into Scriptures, (Eisegesis) we need to read from the Scriptures (Exegesis) and properly divide the word of truth.

Well you make a good point; the passage about committing adultery in your mind does certainly imply with other men's wives. But does that not also mean that lusting over even single women whilst you're single is sinful? There is a difference between acknowledging that a woman is beautiful (not lust), and dwelling on lustful thoughts about her. There is nothing wrong with desiring and being attracted to a certain woman, but again dwelling on lustful thoughts about her is another thing entirely.
And of course, lusting over your wife is perfectly fine. What do you think the Song of Solomon is all about?
The only reason falsehoods arise in Christianity is because uninformed, ignorant people spout their malformed opinions on a certain topic, usually because either they don't fear God and respect the truth, they're using it to manipulate other Christians, or maybe they themselves have been beaten with that particular stick and were too afraid to look into the matter.

I agree. If we are not supposed to commit adultery then we shall not indulge in thoughts on married women. If they are single, then I guess it's gonna be more of a marriage in our hearts than adultery.

My marriage was ruined because of my ex’s porn addiction, etc. It was never admitted to me due to shame and it caused irreparable damage to me as a woman. I hope that my sharing this will change the mind of those reading this and speak truth in order to save a few relationships. Don’t allow an addiction to ruin your life… it’s just not worth it. If you say all lust is a sin then you have to also say the Bible says Jesus lusted and one of the qualifications of a bishop is lust:

So you can see there are good Epithumeo and bad Epithumeo, good lusts and bad lusts.
In the above Matt5:27-28 you can see the Greek word translated ‘adultery’ is moicheuo, not the Greek word Pornia. Pornia is sexual immorality, basically any sexual relations between persons outside of heterosexual marriage. Whereas moicheuo is purly to do with a married person having sexual relations with someone other than their spouse. The Greek word translated ‘woman’ is the word gune which can mean woman or wife dependant on the context it is mentioned. As it is mention in the context of adultery the correct translation should be wife, not woman. Indeed the first English translation by William Tyndale translated gune as ‘wyfe’ [the Old English spelling for ‘wife’]. So the context is adultery, not sexual sin generally as in Porniea.
Paul uses Epithumeo when quoting the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament and this time the translators have translated it more accurately as ‘covet’:
'...For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness," “You shall not covet (Epithumeo),"...Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilment of the law.' Rom13:8-10

Paul is quoting the Greek Septuagint translation (translated approx 200BC) of Ex20:17 and Duet5:21 about ‘...You shall not covet [Epithumeo] your neighbor’s wife.’ So Epithumeo is referring to coveting your neighbour’s wife. The Hebrew word translated 'covet' is Chamad and this is‘... “to desire (brings damage upon the thing or person desired) and to try to obtain”...with the result that a legal maxim has become a rule for governing conduct...’ ‘The verb [action] epitumeo corresponds to a Hebrew word which implies a temptation to acquire ownership...which lends itself to the notion of acquisition of property.’ So Matt5:27-28 is intending to pursue an adulterous sexual relationship, not merely being attracted to someone or fantasy.
In the light of Matt5:27-28 the hyperbole verses about pluck eyeball out and cutting off hand (v29-30) say: That means; if looking at a woman causes you to intend to pursue adultery? Then don’t look! And if touching a woman causes you to intend to pursue adultery? Then don’t touch! As such destroys marriages and hell will be your penalty! It is no coincidence that the passage goes on to talk about divorce (v31-32) because men who intended to commit adultery would divorce their wives in order to marry their new interest (so they thought they were technically not committing adultery), but these two verses prohibit this adulterous divorce. This is nothing to do with masturbation alone in your own in your bedroom.

If you’re married and want to have sex; the only legitimate avenue is to have sex with your spouse. The same goes in your thought life. So when you are unable to get sex with your spouse masturbate thinking only of you spouse. If you single and want to have sex; your only legitimate avenue is to marry someone of the opposite sex to have sex. Therefore the same in your thought life. So it is legitimate to in private; imagine having committed marital sexual relations with an imperfect imaginary/potential spouse while masturbating. But not using such imagination when around others because it could give opportunity to intend to pursue a sexually immoral relationship, breaking the underlying principle of Matt5:27-28.
Using porn to masturbate is a downward spiral of addiction to an unreal fantasy world far from marital intimacy. Fill your time with other activities, don’t masturbate excessively and look for a spouse.

What if partners are away from each other; does it justify masturbation?
I think the general answer to this question is that married people shouldn't put themselves in situation that expose their partner and make them vulnerable to evil things.
That's why the family comes first.
If for instance a Christian man is offered millions for a job that will keep him miles away long term from his family; the wise option is to turn down that Job because it will be unrealistic for his wife to stay that long alone without compromising in anyway.
On the other hand, if the man is away for a reasonably short period of time, he can arrange to satisfy his wife before leaving and thus with her consent; so that she is in the right conditions to preserve herself from sinful practices.

@Brett R can't you just spend time with family instead of being on the phone? What seperates us is how we act while on smart phones. If we use it to isolate ourselves and get rid of family, that is number one horrible and number two (I think I haven't read the bible fully yet) sinful. We should use smartphones to connect, which is why the Internet is a thing. So how about we all join together in prayer, accept that masturbation is lustful hut not verified sinful and move on. There are a lot of situations where a spouse is not available such as youth, a sexless marriage, medical issues, etc. A man has a God-given need for frequent releases - how is he to honor God's plan when he cannot turn to marriage as written in scripture?
