the algorithm is doing right by me... really enjoyed this!
Amazing content, please keep doing it!
I agree with a ton of this. pandemic app vs real is so different. Just taking twenty minutes to set up the game gives the game stakes which you never get from playing solo on instant set up in an app.
Also the chocolate azul really reflects the real life game people play when they share some chocolates and balance leaving community favourites with ones you prefer personally. ( unfortunately the chocolate azul looks worse I think)
Definitely agree! I myself am currently exploring the meaning players bring to a game and whether they can be said to play the game if their goals and ambitions contradict the goal of the game. Take the example of a parent playing a game with their child, if the parent allows their child to win purposefully, are they truly playing the game? If one only considers the goal of the game as the win condition stated, then no. But if it is accepted that games gain their meaning partly by the players and any context they bring in, such as one player's goal that everyone around the table should first and foremost have fun, then yes.
ive really been enjoying your commentary videos. any suggestions on where to find the "off the beaten path" designers you mention in them? how does one discover these designers?
Interesting analysis of games as synthesis ... or is it a synthesis of analyses of games? Or ... well heck ... let's just say, thoughtful video ... thanks!
Very interesting discussion 👍
I'll never see Star Wars the same again😅
Really interesrintg! But you could say the same thing for different plays of the same game, and by same I mean, the same version, format, even played with the same people! Every play of a game is a different game then, if it means something different to you, and I dunno, this feels less useful to me as a way to talk about games. Ultimately, you can group games in different ways, and I think it is kind of interesting to think about how the physical parts and other context of a game can have such a strong effect on us, but I don't think it makes me want to say it's a different game.
