Elvis knew what it was like growing up in the ghetto he grew up in tupelo ms and lived in a 2 room shot gun shack that his dad built for them. There were days his family didn't even have drinking water or food.. he grew up in a mostly black community..but he never forgot where he came from. If you haven't done a a reaction to elvis song suspious minds live vegas version can you do this reaction thanks
This one gets to me my mom grew up very poor in two and three room shacks without running water and knows what it's like to go hungry for days with her eight brothers and sisters.
I’m 51 years old and when I was in my 20s I knew Elvis was a good singer. It wasn’t until the last 10 years that I realized that he was from another planet. He was so insanely talented.
Credit must go to Mac Davis who wrote this and many songs for Elvis, and became a performer as well. He was inspired by his own experience having a African American boy for a friend in Lubbock Texas [his dad worked with the boy's father]. But he never understood why the boy lived in such dire conditions worse than his own white neighborhood being a poor section of town. so Elvis didn't tell the story of own, but close, very similar experiences as Mac. BTW-Whitney Houston's mom, Cissy, is one of the background singers...the Sweet Inspirations.
In the Ghetto. Where to begin. So NO ONE would record this Mac Davis song IN THE GHETTO as it was too raw, especially during the race riots in the 1960s. A top RCA executive said we can't release it. Elvis heard it and said, "That's my next single, son" and walked away. The great Sammy Davis Jr famously turned it down. Sammy stated that he felt that he could not record it because he didn't grow up in a ghetto, but that he know someone who did (who understood growing up poor and hungry, and understood the worst parts of the Great Depression and segregation), Elvis Presley. Only Elvis was willing to risk his career and life to get that record on the air-waves. Only Elvis could have performed it and gotten the radio play when it came out in the late 1960's, during the Civil Rights Movement. A decade of very famous and tragic assassinations. JFK, Robert Kennedy, Dr Martin Luther King. So Elvis knew the risks. He made it his platform. One of his major public statements on the issues of racism and poverty. Without uttering a single press release or public statement. Not a single political word or comment. Not a single talk show to sell people on his ideals. He spoke solely through his music and back stage actions when the lights and cameras were off. Elvis was a strong supporter of the Civil Rights Movement long before he became famous. Amazing power of song by a very brave and loving human being.
I was just a baby when Elvis Presley died, but I grew up watching his movies on TV and listening to his music on the radio and on my mom's records, and this is 100% my absolute favorite song by him. He didn't write the song but it's so powerful when he sings it. I always loved it because I myself grew up very poor, and this could so easily have happened to me or to somebody I love, like my cousins, who've been in and out of jail and rehab more times than I can count, and my sister who stayed in an abusive relationship for way longer than she should have because she couldn't afford to take care of her kids if she left him. In fact, this song is probably one of the reasons I'm a social worker now. Because it's so powerful. And, sadly, because almost nothing has changed since the song came out in 1968.
A great country artist and songwriter named Mac Davis wrote and recorded this song. One of Mac Davis' most well known songs that Mac recorded is "It's Hard to Be Humble". Which is a funny song. He had a good sense of humor. Another really good song by him is "Don't Get Hooked On Me". Mac passed away about 2 years ago, unfortunately.
"In the Ghetto" (Originally titled "The Vicious Circle") is a 1969 song recorded by Elvis and written by Mac Davis. It was a major hit released as a part of Elvis comeback album. A great cover version "Dolly Parton - In the Ghetto". Thanks Mia! For a great "Elvis Presley" reaction video.
RIP Mac Davis, a great song writer and singer in his own right. Elvis didn't write songs period. Elvis even said himself, "I've never even had an idea for a song".
Elvis touches my soul with some of his songs. Gets me emotional. This is one of them songs. Checkout his performance of -An American Trilogy- from his Aloha from Hawaii album. Watch/Play the video of that performance. It’s Beautiful ❤
one Song more of Elvis you will love is "If I can Dream" (live from 68) I have seen now 3 of your Reactions Uncained Melody, I´ll never fall in love again and now in the Ghetto...great to see your reactions...go on ;) greets from Germany:)
Yes Miaaa, it is a powerful message and song. It has it's own story and Elvis was moved to not just write and perform the song but to do all he could to end the stigmatism of life in the ghetto. Not just to raise awareness but to raise money and then hopes of all people to rise above. As he grew up in Memphis he saw all this in a changing world and did what he could and few people give him credit. Mr. Martin Luther King didn't speak for all to have America's Freedoms. He spoke for the Black men and Woman. Not that Mr. King was uncaring, he could admittedly only do for his own people and he did just that. Like a soldier in war, Mr. King gave his life so others would live free. It's a shame so few grab the chance and fewer even try to rise above. As a Dad of a Black Son and a Grandpa of Black Grandchildren, I cannot fight their fights, but I do have their back and I'll jump right in when asked. Elvis Presley did this song and many others about lifting the human spirit above conditions to find richness in God. Miss Miaaa, Sweety you are too Beautiful to be a shark and entirely too intelligent to fall into a limited position. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Girl you need to see "If I Can Dream". From 68 comeback special, white suit version. This man recorded over 700 songs. Thanks for your reaction, I just subbed
I just subscribed. You are amazing. Thank you for giving memories to an older man. I grew up in the 60s and this song still means so much to me. Tears everytime I hear it. Thanks.
just subscribed if you liked this song you need to watch Elvis (IF I CAN DREAM) FROM HIS 1968 COMBACK SPECIAL IN THE WHITE SUIT) IT IS A LIVE PERFORMANCE. IT MAY BE ONE OF HIS GREATEST PERFORMANCES FROM A EMOTIONAL AND GUT WRENCHING STAND POINT . This is a tribute to MLK after his assination in Memphis.
This song tells a real story like you said !! His backing band sounded great as well . You are brilliant Mia , but don't get perfect because I love the bloopers Lol . " The Money Maker " I love it !! 😂 . Trust me , carrying on producing these great videos , as you do .... You are going to be with the sharks before you know it 🙂
Thanks from a third generation Elvis fan. I used to sing this to my kids as a lullaby. My mom sung it to me, hopefully one day my kids will sing this song to my grandkids. Thanks for keeping Elvis alive in 2022
all those songs back then were around 3 mins tops. Pre digital and social media days Top 40 radio ruled and they had to fit as many songs between commercial breaks as possible.
My Mother was arrested at 9mths pregnant (w me😊) while marching w MLK in front of a TN restaurant that didn’t allow blacks to dine inside. This was her 2nd favorite Elvis song, the 1st being If I Can Dream (a tribute to MLK- look for the 68 Special white suit version) & the 3rd was Walk A Mile In My Shoes (look for the live w story version). All 3 were played often & early in our home- not just songs, but mantras… Models by which my parents raised myself & my siblings. How very blessed we were!!!❤️🙏🏼 Mac Davis who wrote the song originally took it to the late GREAT triple threat African American talent Sammy Davis Jr. He said- I’m sorry, I can’t sing this song. I don’t know how; I’ve never lived this way. But I do know who has… Take it to my friend Elvis Presley. And the rest as they say is history. HIGHLY recommend the minidoc (14mins) Elvis and The Black Community: That Echo Will Never Die. You’ll learn much about Elvis as both a person and a performer! Much shorter but also worthy a watch/listen- Paul Harvey’s Rest of The Story: Elvis Presley, Poor Boy & a Guitar. Nice reaction; SUBSCRIBED!😊 Stay safe & love much💖
I owe you an apology and my gratitude! I mistakenly wrote that Elvis wrote this song but I owe it to you for setting me straight. Elvis's story is one I was sure to pass on to my son and my grand children but now I will amend this portion and give credit where credit is due; to Mac Davis and to you. Thank You You are in my prayers Hoka Hey
You owe nothing, friend. And I should have added- while Elvis didn’t write the song, in the end (literally) he stepped in on arrangement! That final ‘…and his Mama cries…’ was not in Davis’ original arrangement. Elvis wanted to add it- felt it *needed* to be added. Davis would later say he wasn’t so sure, but Elvis persisted & insisted, and- ‘he was RIGHT!’ Those 4 words repeated at the end drive home the cyclical creature that is the ghetto. For me, it is a gut punch. Blessings to you, your son, & your Grandchildren!💖
Miaaa- The crazy thing is Elvis put out over 700 songs and didn't write a single one but thats okay. In The Ghetto is one of my all time fav Elvis songs. I have another one for you to react to though and you are going to love it. Please check out Elvis performing How Great Thou Art live in 1972.
He didn't have to write songs. Every song writer wanted him to sing their songs and there are thousands to choose from and he made each one a great song to enjoy.
There're so many more Elvis hit songs you'll never get to them all. He is the 2nd biggest selling music artist of all time. Only The Beatles top him and Michael Jackson is 3rd behind Elvis. He recorded over 700 songs in a short life.
A song ain't a song If it's not been lived ! That's my own personal opinion though . Any song that has meaning like this is really a treasure to keep in your heart ❤️
know you've already reacted to Suspicious minds from a different concert...But the performance at this concert of Suspicious minds was goddamn epic. He was at the top of his game at this concert and it is 100 percent the one you should have reacted too...but no biggie. Of the performances if I had a time machine to visit would be in my top 5 ....lol
I am new to your channel, and nobody has ever reacted to my recommendations, but I have to give it a shot.Try the live version of his song Walk A Mile In My shoes. Its done in a southern gospel style and is also a very powerful song

wow Ms. Miaaaa you are just amazing . You keep getting better and better with each reaction . On a side note you can't go wrong wit hElvis . much love and peace
Elvis walk a mile in my shoes, just pretend, American trilogy, I'll remember you, only believe, reconsider baby, You'll Never Walk alone, milky white way, Let It Be me, my baby left me, my babe, trying to get to you.
He sings this so powerfully and full of emotion and ignorant people out there accuse him of being racist. Give me a damn break! Especially after his upbringing.
Elvis: JUST PRETEND, ONLY BELIEVE, REACH OUT TO JESUS, MILKY WHITE WAY, WHY ME LORD, HOW GREAT THOU ART, MYSTERY TRAIN (1970), LAWDY MISS CLAWDY (1972) TALK ABOUT THE GOOD TIMES, SHAKE A HAND, WHERE DID THEY GO LORD, WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES, HE TOUCHED ME, LET US PRAY (VIDEO 1969) HOW THE WEB WAS WOVEN, SANTA CLAUS IS BACK IN TOWN, ON A SNOWY CHRISTMAS NIGHT, AMAZING GRACE 🎤 Thanks & Enjoy !!!
Awesome reaction Elvis Presley u should check out waking in Memphis by March cohn I think u will like that song & u should check out an American triology by Elvis
Really wonderful. That's how's the 50/60/70's music was.. Here some songs for you:: ""The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" performed by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. It's the title song of a movie of the same name. Then:: Tom Jones"" ""Delilah and I'll Never Fall in Love Again""
Hey girl, I'm a new subscriber, and I love watching you react. If you want some more subscribers, try this almost 9-minute blues masterpiece by Stevie Ray Vaughan. It's "Texas Flood" Live at the El Mocambo. Stevie is thought of as one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived, and he died in a helicopter crash after a concert in 1990. He's also an amazing blues singer. Another amazing performance you would love is Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa doing "I'd Rather Go Blind" Everyone loves these two incredible performances, and your new subs will, too!
Elvis Presley was a great singer majority of all his songs ever sang were written by someone else. This one was written by Mac Davis Who provided Elvis with a lot of songs. You need to go ahead and check out Mac Davis country singer storyteller, especially his hit titled"Baby don't get hooked on me". Thank you have a good evening bye now.
Wow that's interesting. And if you like this, you might really like if I can dream, the tribute to Martin Luther King that was the finale to his 1968 Comeback Special on television. They wanted him to do a Christmas song but he chose to do that instead because he was so broken up and mainly about the assassination of Dr King but also just the racial strife and Chaos of the time and also the assassination of Bobby Kennedy and it was just such a crazy time. I was a little kid for that and I never even saw this performance until a year ago. Thanks youtube! He's got two different versions but the one that most people react to and the one that most people consider to be one of his most iconic performances ever is the so-called white suit red tie version. But but this song in the ghetto, just like if I can dream, we're really watershed moments because here you've got a white guy with immense popularity and he bucks management and everything else and even the record label to do these racially conscious songs. This song for example, was first offered to a couple other people and they wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole. Then it was offered to Sammy Davis Jr and he really wanted to do it but he just didn't feel like he could do it. But he recommended it to Elvis and Elvis said screw it I'm doing it, against the advice of a lot of people and it worked, that's Elvis he can make that kind of thing work. That's the background he came from and he never forgot it. And finally, by the end of the reaction I realized that your hair was reminding me of Michael Jackson at a certain phase, except you're a lot prettier, which is really saying something because Michael Jackson was fairly pretty for a guy, laugh.
please react to Angelina Jordan next,,the barefoot princess of jazz, sixteen now, many covers and some originals on YT,try her original song million miles, dedicated to her grandfather, lost, but she can captivate you forever, next superstar..and many followers of her now will bombard you with subs every time you react of her,a amazing discovery..VERY popular ,and she can sing any genre of music..its true
elvis lived right in da hood of memphis. he new what was happening on a daily basis.
Elvis puts his ❤️ and soul into his music. He gives his All !!

Now you see why I said it is my favorite song!!!!
You’re gettin there quickly…you’ll be a shark soon!!!!
Elvis if I can dream
As good and powerful as this song is If I Can Dream is Elvis' greatest song and performance by far! Its in honor of Dr. King.
Agree. The white suit version from the 68 Comeback Special is the best one to react to.

They didn't call Elvis the king for nothing. Aloha from Hawaii has a lot of great songs.
I remember when that song came out. The song was written by Mac Davis. Mac wrote three or four songs Elvis recorded.
Mac Davis originally wrote this song for the Righteous Brothers who turned it down saying it would be bad for their image

It's all about the cycle of poverty. The struggle today is the same as it was 60+ years ago. It never ends.
53 yrs later, ghetto life is still the same😔
Yes Miaaa, it is a powerful message and song. It has it's own story and Elvis was moved to not just write and perform the song but to do all he could to end the stigmatism of life in the ghetto.
Keep doing Elvis and you will be A SHARK!!!
Para mim a melhor música dele
My Mother was arrested at 9mths pregnant (w me😊) while marching w MLK in front of a TN restaurant that didn’t allow blacks to dine inside. This was her 2nd favorite Elvis song, the 1st being If I Can Dream (a tribute to MLK- look for the 68 Special white suit version) & the 3rd was Walk A Mile In My Shoes (look for the live w story version). All 3 were played often & early in our home- not just songs, but mantras… Models by which my parents raised myself & my siblings. How very blessed we were!!!❤️🙏🏼
Mac Davis who wrote the song originally took it to the late GREAT triple threat African American talent Sammy Davis Jr.
Nice reaction; SUBSCRIBED!😊
Stay safe & love much💖
I owe you an apology and my gratitude! I mistakenly wrote that Elvis wrote this song but I owe it to you for setting me straight. Elvis's story is one I was sure to pass on to my son and my grand children but now I will amend this portion and give credit where credit is due; to Mac Davis and to you. Thank You
You are in my prayers

Glad you know how Great Elvis was😊
Great reaction. Check out Elvis "Mary in the "Morning, "Kentucky Rain" "American Trilogy" from his Hawaii special.
Great reaction. Do it Miaaa!
Mac Davis (who had a respectable career as well) wrote this
A bit of trivia, Whitney Houston' mom is one of his backup singers here
Songs back in the day needed to fit on a 45 in order to get mainstream airplay.
My favorite elvis song is take my hand

#DoItMiaaaa Do Elvis tribute to Martin Luther King Jr in his song "If I can Dream"
The part I find interesting is that Elvis never says what race they are.
So why do everyone just assume that if they live in the GETTO they are black.
You look good 😍😍
Wow that's interesting.
If you liked this you'd like IF I CAN DREAM.
And after 50 years, the cycle still continues today.
Ditto 100% Mike%
