It's not an ordinary comedy western. It's more serious than the good the bad and ugly or once upon a time in the wets. Just cos' it's got a bunch of jokes in it doesen't change this fact.
@@alex-fw1bl With Zimmer, I always get the feeling that he's just composing the same song over-and-over again. Play the theme for "The Rock" at about 3:40, then listen to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme and you'll hear what I mean. Morricone on the other hand is always original and way more versatile - he was on a whole different level.
Recently watched this movie with a friend. When I got smacked in the face by this masterpiece I had to make him pause it to see who composed it, and of course - Morricone.
This version is amazing! The background vocals, damn. I am just hearing this, even though I have watched "Once upon a time in the West" numerous times, but never heard of "My name is nobody"!
It's a parody of the Italo Western genre. Basically, Sergio Leone realized that someone would eventually come along to make fun of his movies, so he decided that person would be himself and got some of his actors from the previous projects together (Henry Fonda and Klaus Kinski for starters), told Morricone to come up with good music, put the project in the hands of a capable director and then mostly let it run. Many of the scenes are direct references to other Western films, like the scene in the barbershop, the hat shooting contest or the one where Fonda's character visits an old acquaintance in a mine. The end result was probably the ultimate parody of the genre, setting the standard so high that it must have prevented a lot of lesser movies from being made.

@@BrokenCurtain Didn't know it was a parody, i thought it was just Unforgiven but with Trinity (without Bambino) and the duel music was just paying tribute to Fonda's previous role as Frank
@@frankuraku5622 Well, the barber shop scene where this piece of music plays seems to be a direct reference to "High Plains Drifter" with Clint Eastwood, which was released in April 1973. The shooting for "My name is Nobody" started on April 30th 1973, so the timing fits. It's easy to miss that this movie was a parody because it treats the source material with respect and was made by the actual masters of the genre, who knew what they were doing. It also has a serious side and tells a compelling story beneath the comedy. By contrast, modern-day spoof films are overloaded with fart jokes and fecal humour.
