I wonder how many of those in the water are just "spectators" sitting on the shoulder and how many are actually paddling for waves. I know at my home break the second it gets over 4 feet it's usually about 70% spectators scratching for shoulders and only 30% having a dig
Wouldn't be surprised if most ppl out there never even paddled for one and it's like 3 guys scoring back to back
Anyone that is in the water at Pipe is going for waves for sure. It’s just a matter if they get any. The most senior surfers and best surfers get their pick of the waves, while newer surfers and groms get what’s left over.
80% of them aren't catching anything maybe cracks from the cleanup sets but that's it

Damn. 0 bodysurfers. I always estimate the number of guys at 60-70, so it's nice to see an actual head count at 100. Crazy
There was actually 1 bodysurfer that came out after this video was taken!

Most crowded wave in the world,makes sense it has the most deaths.
If Chopes was that consistently crowded it would probably have the most deaths.
