Hey everyone! In today’s video I referenced the Canon containing examples that demonstrate an emerging concept that “balance” or the “totality” of the Force is its true nature, rather than a focus on just the light or just the dark. Because I’ve discussed these examples in previous videos, I did not go over them in fine detail in order to keep the video shorter and on topic. But if you would like to see an in-depth discussion of these examples, please take a look at the following videos:
Why Luke Skywalker Must End the Jedi Order: ua-cam.com/video/wabUYtC4y74/v-deo.html
BALANCE: Luke’s Dark Side Evolution by the Disciples of the Whills: ua-cam.com/video/Ob8bQ7CT1Yw/v-deo.html
Thank you as always for your support everyone, I hope that you enjoy the video!

Star Wars Reading Club - Do you think that this renewed focus on balance (which I'm truly loving) was hinted at in the fates of The Father, The Daughter and The Son? The Daughter and The Son both brought about their own downfalls by dogmatically plowing ahead; seeking to destroy the 'imbalance' of the others existance/ dominate through the dagger (i.e. force), ultimately weakening, corrupting and killing The Father... just a thought but I'd love to hear your take on whether this previous exploration of balance is still relevant.

I think this makes perfectly sense. The Jedi do NOT represent the Force or "its will". They focus too much on its Aspect, which they call "the light side". The Force, like every force of nature is beyond good and Evil. Every attempt to manipulate it, even in favor of the "light side" results in horrible consequences.

Agreed. That theory somewhat takes away from the arc of redemption, but I would agree. Some consider the light side of the force balance, itself, though and the Dark side being a perversion of the force for selfish use, but because of how the Jedi order tried to confine the force and limit it, it would make sense for the force to betray them in that way, so I like the theory.

I'd like to point out that a key word was dropped from your quotation of Bendu's words and that is "Perhaps." It a little difficult to hear over the maelstrom but it's there. And it changes the Bendu's words from a prophecy to speculation. It is also worth noting that the Bendu also said that he serves the will of the force and Kanan managed to survive the night despite being the one person that the Bendu seemed to want to kill.
I would also argue that the Wills are just as likely to be fallible as the Jedi and the Sith. And I think that should be kept in mind when considering their philosophies.
So I think there is a lot more room for debate as to what the force wants as a whole.

    • @murphykurphy2620
      @murphykurphy2620 2 роки тому +1

Honestly, for the Bendu, there is no perhaps. What makes sense is this is a manner of speaking. Essentially the jedi, at this point have ended. Most of the leadership were killed.
This, to me, falls into the category of knowing something to be true but suggesting it to be the case to someone who does not know (perhaps giving them something to think about). To be short, had Caleb Dume's master not died he likely does not end up on Lothal, meeting the Lothwolf, his next life. (?) Who guides him to saving his friends and changing the outcome of the war. (Thrawn's Tie Defender likely striking a major blow to the Rebel cause if it had been implemented.)
I think, considering the Bendu's whole manner, this is likely the case.
(And we see how Kanaan's path, sacrifice, effects Ezra.)

But since this is Kreia, it's possible that it was but a convenient lie to draw the exile to Malachor V, and to turn herself into another figment of the past for the Exile to confront and defeat. And it's also possible that the purpose for all this was to train the Exile and her apprentices in her image, and prompt the to rebuild a new, better Jedi order. One which would not have its old Masters sit idly by as the galaxy burns around them, and young Knights fall to the Dark Side en masse in their victory over whoever does the burning. Something which went horribly right in it's own way during the Clone Wars.

@@mpnuorva I'm reasonably certain killing the Force *was* her plan. Though whether or not it would work, or if she *wanted* to be stopped are whole different issues.
Still, her version of the Force as "Fate" tying it's leash around people's necks, was less... "active" then the manipulation of chance and probability that seems to exist in Disney canon. It was more in it's influence on Force users themselves, and the endless cycles of war that result from said influences. Be they the stagnation of the Jedi, or the self destructiveness of Sith.
After all, Kreia a Jedi historian before she became a Sith, and it isn't particularly hard to see how Force users are always at the center of all the many, many, *many* galactic wars in the galaxy far far away.

This is something I brought up in my review of the Episode III novelization: that Anakin was meant to eliminate both the old Jedi Order and the Sith in order to bring the Force back into balance, as the Jedi's complacency was doing just as much damage to the galaxy as the Sith. I don't complete buy the idea that the Force targeted them because of their dedication to the light, as I don't see that as being problematic in and of itself given it's philosophy of peace and compassion isn't inherently bad until the Jedi took it to the extreme in their waning days. That, and their support of a broken and corrupt system made it clear they had to go (although, as I point out in my review, I don't think the Jedi HAD to be exterminated; that was the result of a personal failing on Anakin's part. As the Chosen One, Anakin was the catalyst for change, and it was only because of flawed Jedi teaching and Sidious' manipulation that the Jedi were wiped out, rather than reforming after the war and the arrest/execution of Palpatine).

Having said that, would you then further argue that Sidious succeeded in avenging the Sith precisely because he held a "greater" and more total view of the Force?
Remember, when Palpatine revealed himself as a Sith Lord to Anakin, he claimed "Palpatine: Anakin, if one is to understand “the great mystery” one must study all it’s aspects, not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Jedi. If you wish to become a complete and wise leader, you must embrace a larger view of the force."

My theory is that Anakin was the Force's last chance for the Sith and the Jedi. For tens of thousands of years the Force tried to undo the damage caused by the First Skism that created the Jedi and Sith. When it realized they were both too think necked to do this it created Anakin as their final chance. They could use Anakin to unite the Jedi and the Sith to create true balance, or they could use him as a weapon to destroy. In the end they both took Anakin and attempted to use him as a weapon to whipped the other out, so the forth did exactly that, whipped them both out and left only Luke. Hoping Luke would recreate the Jedi, but not as they were during the Old Republic, but as they were in the time before the first Schism. When Luke began recreating the Jedi not as they should be but as they were, the force lashed out having no more patience with the Jedi and destroyed them before they could have a chance to exist properly.

After watching the movies, several of the series and reading the magazines (canons and legends) and some of the books, I realize that the Jedi didn't bring balance to the Force and were even careless, manipulative and arrogant in their view of predominance of light side. I think that true balance will be a "gray" vision, per say.

I honestly can't make up my mind about all this. The new approach to the Force is interesting and creates a lot of potential for future stories, but on the other hand the Jedi and Sith are so integral to the Star Wars mythos to me that not having them around post sequel trilogy will be extremly weird.
It's not that Legends did not also have leanings in these directions for the Force. It's just that they were mostly limited to a few individuals in the larger Jedi Order, rather than becoming the basis for a completly new order. It weirds me out far more this way, with this actually happening in the movies.
But yeah, the Force must have played a role in the Jedi's destruction. There are too many clues to it.

There's just one canonical problem here. If the force hated the Jedi then why on earth did it give Yoda the strictest of all Jedi to the code and council rules the gift of maintaining conscious existence after death. Surely the whills would have told him otherwise. Instead he tells anakin the same montra about attachments and warns Luke of the dark. Yet the force clearly deemed him worthy despite his beliefs and practices.

He he "angry Bendu" Great video! I think you've made a strong case regarding the direction the SW saga seems to be going with the totality of The Force. So now, the question becomes, "What would be the moral/ethical implications of a totality view and how would that likely translate into character stories?" Personally, I think it's going to be a bit like shifting sand underneath the character makeup (unlike what we've seen in the past, even in characters that ended up using the Dark Side at times like Anakin and Luke). Even those characters had strong inclinations that put them on one side or another. However, if/when everyone is morally ambiguous, what kind of story is left to tell? Keep up the great work and gave a great week!

I have often wondered if the correct stance is to be anti force. Think about it: Endless conflict brought about to serve its will, deaths of countless billions so that it can being itself back into that balance, no, the force may be the greatest evil and enemy in the canon. Light, dark, or grey, if you serve the force's will, you ARE the enemy.

    • @betterman4ed
      @betterman4ed 6 років тому

I would qualify this idea slightly. First, the force is credited with the creation of life itself. It lives inside all beings and returns to the larger living environment only with the death of its host. To be 'anti-force' would therefore mean the end of all organic beings.
Second, not all those with the force 'serve its will'. What you are describing in the light and dark sides of the force amounts two rival religions. This does describe the conflict between the jedi and sith. But many serve their own wills and merely use the force as a tool. Still, your point is well taken. These individuals would not be as powerful without the dogma that would serve as their preeminent duty.
But a larger argument might be made that we should be against those people known as 'force sensitive' beings, those who possess extraordinary abilities and thus carry the potential to greatly influence the world around them. The influence of 'force sensitive' wills would be more or less powerful depending on its owner's strength, yet 'force sensitive' individuals as a group would be able to exert themselves more extensively than ordinary beings. They might, due to their strength, generate endless conflict if divided into opposing camps or even if it were every being for himself. While ordinary beings also participate in conflict to their different interests, the affairs of ordinary beings might go on without too greatly disrupting the world around them. The conflict would be limited within the scope of their ordinary abilities. They would be neither a force of overly powerful force either for good or for evil.
      significant actors in history.

The one thing I’ve always found a little odd is that Aniken was supposed to be prophesies to “bring balance to the force”
But there’s really never been any solid evidence as far as I know as to what balance means. The Jedi Council in Phantom Menace just instantly assumed that meant that Aniken was destined to eliminate the Sith. But would that really be balance?
I always thought the Jedi and Sith were supposed to be Yin and Yang, and as such one needed to exist as much as the other for there to be balance the imbalance comes when they start building Deathstars and blowing up Solar systems, there’s no balance to something like that just pure destruction.

Thanks @starwarsreadingclub ! Love your videos sir!
This just reminds me how much I love Luke!! I believe the force ultimately exist to protect life (Legends backs me up on this ;), and the reason why Luke has the force's backing so well is seen toward the end of Empire when he races off to save his friend's lives, instead of 'honering what they fight for' and possibly letting them die (like a duch). Of course that was a trap, and anyone more 'learned' would not have gone, but therein lies the difference of Luke and the ever cautious Jedi, Luke didn't question or calculate about what should be done, he knew the right thing to do for him, and unquestionably took a leep of faith! (Did he get sidetracked on Bespan? Sure. He suffer and lose a hand? Sure. Did he not really help his friends? Sure. BUT, did the same optimistic naivety save his life later on... No my friends, as Luke throw the Lightsaber from his hands and uttered the words 'you have failed your highness, I am a Jedi, like my father before me' it saved the Galaxy!)

I reached this understanding long ago, and came up with a solution. It is called Jedi Exile, and includes special technologies from Several Science Fiction Universes. The "Exiles," led by Revan, are cloned by mysterious people using advanced technology. They will awaken on the planet Zakuul in 550 BBY where they will assume command of the Eternal Empire's Remnants. They will journey to the Ancient Planet of Tython, where they will build an organization known as the Exiles to study (and later build defenses against) the strange people who made the "Asteroid" Canderous encountered. They will end Reestablishing the Je'Daii Order, discovering advanced technologies that will permit them to silently build up a Massive Hidden Civilization to prepare for the Yuuzhan Vong War (once they are aware of the Vong). The information listed here is but a drop in the bucket of the Information gathered for this Project, and the plan is to collaborate with the Star Wars Fandom Lore Masters (All of them) to complete it. By the time this is done, Disney should have made it easy enough for the Fan Base to get someone (or several someones) to help buy Star Wars from Disney (nobody will Want Anything to do with the Disney Canon soon enough).

George Lucas himself already stated that the Dark side is an imbalance of the force. The force is not supposed to exist as both light and dark. From the man himself, the creator of Star wars, the very existence of the dark side is what causes the imbalance, and Anakin fulfills the prophecy when he kills Sidious.
" Which brings us up to the films 4, 5, and 6, in which Anakin's offspring redeem him and allow him to fulfill the prophecy where he brings balance to the Force by doing away with the Sith and getting rid of evil in the universe..."
It is perfectly clear from George Lucas himself that the Dark side is a corruption of the force and will always push it out of balance.

Lucas’ words may very well be the word of god. But by this point all he seems to be doing is killing off potential stories, all to fit an extremely old interpretation of Star Wars. And killing off potential stories is a BIG no no when it comes to storytelling in a developed fictional world with a wide variety of stories being told.
Tl;dr: We should stop paying attention to Lucas, and let him play in his metaphorical sandbox.

#suggestion: I think that it be cool if General Grievious found Darth Tyranus' light saber to add to his collection. As Grievious was escaping the ship a droid from the observation room where Dooku was killed was already in the same area as Grievious. He took Dooku's light saber with him in his escape pod and when he made it to another separatist ship he left that system. Grievious put Tyranus' light saber up in his trophy room where he had other jedi sabers that he gathered after he had killed them. After he left his trophy room, a Bothan came sneaking inside and stole 4 of the light sabers including Dooku's. This Bothan was trading information with the Republic and he felt that the jedi might want these light sabers. He left on a separatist shuttle and headed to Yavin 4 where his contact in the Republic was scheduled to meet him at regular intervals. His contact was waiting for him and he was given the light sabers then he went back to Corrisant to be placed in the jedi temple library. A young padawn came to visit that area of the library soon after and he was immediately obsessed by Dooku's light saber. He used the force to free the light saber from its display case and immediately left the library to escape to the underworld streets of Corrisant. He believed that the jedi would be displeased with his actions and they were, they ordered clone troopers to find the missing padawan. Soon he found passage on a civilian transport and after switching ships many times he made it to Mandelor where he dawned young mandelorian armor and changed his name to hide himself from the other jedi. He became known as Tora Masamada and years after order 66 he enlisted in the storm trooper army as a galactic marine. When he was able, Tora Masamada mastered a plan to fake his death during a mission and leave the storm trooper galactic marines. He engineered adult mandelorian armor that was black with red highlights and goes back to his jedi training as he used Count Dooku's red light saber. He then took on the name of Tyranus and became known in certain circle as a powerful bounty hunter. This Tyranus had a son on Dathomir who he named Tora Masamada after his old name he took while on Mandelor throughout his military career in the storm troopers. Tyranus and his son Tora left Dathomir after 16 years to embark on a father and son bounty hunter career also he taught his son his jedi knowledge which he intermixed with his night brother training to become a powerful force user like his father. Luke Skywalker eventually finds the duo and get them to join his new jedi order. Tyranus gave his son his original blue light saber and he removed the red crystal from Dooku's light saber then switched it with a blue kyber crystal. Master Tyranus was killed by Kylo Ren years later but his son escaped and went to Tattoine where he hid amongst the sand people until Luke was found then he joined the rebel alliance where he used both his father's light saber which was Count Dooku's originally.

Dude, by far one of.your best under the radar most comprehensive, on point videos you ever made. Making the choice to tell the story of how Anakin changed the outlook of the force. And how the Force struck back at the Jedi for rejecting Love. Plus all the points you pointed out. Which where all insanely on point n informative. Furthermore, hoping that Disney will resurrect Anakin/Vader after the battle of Endor. And granting him his 15 minutes of FgrantiI found what Snoke said when using Star Killer Base in line with not doing it out of being Evil or "Darkside" more like weighing things out if the conflict drags, the death toll could have been more. But by destroying 5 planets, actually saved more lives in the long run. But would love for Snoke to be Anakin/Vader resurrected in the totality of the force. Not just Darkside.. Snoke doesnt seem to want to purge the pull to the light from Kylo Ren. Its why he is his most talented Apprentice. My bad i just think it be awesome if Anakin/Vader Light and Darkside transcended to the Force. But the Force had more work to do due to the fact that Anakin/Vader could not bring balance to the Force because of Love, granted Snoke more time to bring balance to the Force and reshape Force wielders as he see fit.. Be fucking Awesome.. He just cant Kill Luke himself.. It's his Son after all.. He never told Kylo Ren to Kill Han Solo. He clearly told him it was a test. Of which side of the Force would he choose.. Hence why Snoke said.. "We shall, see.. We shall, see"

This is a great video. I think the Bendu had a philosophy like that of the Je'daii, that balance was necessary to be maintained. As such, the jedi and sith both represent extremes (the selfless jedi and selfish sith) that were not sustainable and detrimental, and the force helped create the chosen one, anakin skywalker, to curb both orders. Neither order was focused on balance, but rather their own philosophy, which may have been opposed to the force itself. Maybe Kreia had a point about getting rid of the force...

I always thought the se about Anakin. He successfully wiped the old Jedi order from existence before he ever successfully confronted Palpatine. He made a hard reset on all force using organizations. It was needed.

And that's why Qui-Gon Jinn was so dangerous as he was a true follower of the force, as a follower of the Living Force. Hence he was the target of the Sith on Episode 1.

The light and dark isn't just about good and evil either as it's also about how the user controls the force, or the jedi allow it to flow through them while the sith bend the force to their will. Also the sith use emotion to fuel their power while the jedi don't. However though that's is considered to be dark side use by the jedi emotion itself is not inherently bad and only leads to problems if given free reign without an element of intellectual control. Didn't Love help save Regan and bastilla for example? Even though it may be considered wrong use of the force by the jedi? I honestly don't think it's about good or bad I think it's about using the force in all the different ways available.

This is how I've looked upon on the Force ever since I met Kyle Katarn in Jedi Knight series.
And it's also how I look upon Politics these days, the important of striking a Balance.

I sincerely appreciate your perspective on this. I've quite a bit of trepidation regarding Star Wars direction as a whole, but this is some Taoist, basis for meaning in general stuff you're talking here. So thanks.

The ultimate "control" created by Sidious and Vader, through fear and domination over the galaxy, if it were allowed to be fully realized, WOULD have maintained "peace" from their poit of view.
The "bad guy" NEVER thinks of himself as evil.
But individual freedom wouldn't exist for the masses under their control.
Yoda AND Obi-Wan were both in exile, but they were alive and so the force was way out of balance.
So, Luke being able to redeem Vader and destroy the Sith negated the need for the Jedi to be active, because it removed the oppression and allowed real peace through liberty, but liberty is an extremely fragile thing.
Knowing this, Luke tried to create a new Jedi order to protect the galaxy, which is an act born of fear, throwing the force back out of balance again, the dark side would not be far behind, naturally, so enter; Kylo Ren.
He sees the failures that came before, with the dark side ruling through fear in an attempt to bring peace, and then his uncle Luke fails because he was a slave to his own fears.
The Jedi are not necessary without the Sith. The problem is not the force but the force users. Manipulation of the natural process of the galaxy, whether for perceived "good" or "evil" is never the true will of the force.
A Jedi rises and the Sith will come, and vice-versa.
    The pendulum swings wildly back and forth. But the problem is CLEAR;
It's not whether it lands heads or tails, but choosing not to flip the coin.

TWSTF So the Jedi can't exist without the Sith? The Sith were born from out of the Jedi and the Jedi had existed for, correct me if I'm wrong, thousands of years prior. The Sith aren't the only reason the Jedi Order exist, in fact it isn't the reason at all. The Jedi Order is a religion not a military war faction that it became in the Clone Wars.

So chirrut imwe and bendu was right ! "I am one with the force, the force is with me " he is one with the force but he is neither the light nor the dark and bendu he doesnt serve the light or the dark , he serves the force. But a question : how about other light side or dark side religion or the grey jedi ? Would the force retalliate them ???

When the prequels were running, I so very much wanted Anakin to pivot in the direction of this outlook and make a conscious choice to embrace the dark side based on a similar logic.

3 years old but, it seemed the force wanted to eliminate both sides as neither of them followed the will of the force anymore, they both sought to control it, , but it almost seems it decided to react to the sith attempt to create life with the force, which would completely upset the balance.

  • @amisfitpuivk

Or, there is no will to the force, and like the name says, it's just a force, like gravity. Gravity doesn't give a shit who lives or dies.

Maybe the concept of bringing balance to the force by the chosen one, is the creation of of a dark side that only destroys wha's unworthy/unhealthy for a prosperous future of relevant beings and matter, while the light side is the essence of prosperity itself.

  • @joseaustin2692

That can also be said about the sith once they destroy the Jedi order, it was still no balance in the Force and they lost their power two decades later.... You need both the light and the dark for true balance

"there's something familiar about this place", it been a while since I played KOTOR 2, but there seem to be liberal borrowing from that games plot in both the Bendu and what we've seen about Ep 9, not that this is a bad thing as post restro-mod KOTOR 2 is the most interesting SW game to date

I've always viewed the force as just the force. The light or darkness resides not in the force but in those that choose to wield it. The force is elemental it exists, it is. Good and evil, light and darkness comes from those that choose to wield the force in the way that they see fit.
