Goes a bit deeper than that. Peter Freudenthaler, wrote the song about his depression, however there's more. His girlfriend died in a car accident, she crashed with a lemon tree. The blue sky is about sunny happy days, and he just sees a lemon tree due to his depression thinking about it but also because lemons are bitter. From that point on he's only sad waiting for her, but never going to come.

The blue sky is symbolism for happiness and joy, and everybody just talks about how great life is and just look at all the happy and good things, but all you can see are lemon trees, which are symbols for bitterness and sourness, as lemons are.
