    A LOT of people on social media are missing that this is still a creepy Dreamcatcher song. This is not them extolling girlcrush. Kind of like Because as a dark "love song", it's them doing the dark side of girlcrush. A lot of the imagery and lyrics in this are obsessive, arrogant, culty, etc. Everything is fake and selfish and manipulated. The online handle trying to recruit people is "archenemy" spelled backwards. I think this is going to be clearer, storyline wise, in whatever the next comeback is.

      Insomnia is being clowned even after the MV is released. I don't know why someone can think this is an empowering song or a brag song. No, follow the story they started a month ago and you'll see the lyric is hella creepy and not empowering at all. They're luring people into a game and kill them lol

      Ha, never noticed the backwards username until you pointed it out. I agree that the following track will probably clarify some things, but I wish they'd made it a little clearer directly in the song and MV this time that it's a dark satire rather than an actual brag track. I didn't see any of the mystery code material, so that context was lost on me.

      @@zibbitybibbitybop Yeah, that's really make non-fan and Insomnia who don't follow the story line feels so weird. But DC still is DC, it's dark and mysterious, more than anyone ever think

      For me who knew the mystery code existed but not the extent of it. Just that is extensive. lol I knew this was not what it seemed. The ending of the MV points to a dark side being hidden behind the glamor and we never found out about the crown. So I’m excited to see what the next MV brings and how it changes the perspective of OOTD. 👑

    I think from what the girls said in the last few days that "OOTD" is part one of two, but unlike the Apocalypse or Dystopia or Nightmare stories, we don't know even a little where it's going in the second part.
    As an Insomnia for four years and with Dreamcatcher as my ult group, I have to say: "OOTD" is now my favorite title track. Even more than "Bon Voyage", "OOTD" proved once and for all that LEEZ' departure from the songwriting/production partnership with Ollounder didn't hurt Dreamcatcher at all - I'd say just the opposite: that the addition of Peperoni, Olive, Door, and Maddox has injected fresh blood and new ideas into Dreamcatcher's sound at a point where (arguably) they need it to continue growing internationally. Can't wait for their next comeback and next US tour!

    • @rodiz830
      @rodiz830 7 місяців тому +15

      Nah i disagree, ollounder and his partners are doing a great job but leez has contributed a LOT of stuff to dc back in the days, his demos, his voice and how much he put into a lot of songs like deja vu and scream were immeasurable, respect his name

      @@rodiz830 I LOVE LEEZ's work for Dreamcatcher and was not intending to slight him. My thought was that a LOT of people on socials were afraid that without LEEZ, the quality of Dreamcatcher's music would diminish. I think with "Bon Voyage", "Demian" and "OOTD" (plus all the b-sides), that fear has been proven to be groundless.

      Leez helped keep the tracks more rounded as a partnership. The newbies clearly trying to provide their own influence to the songs. Aside from the title track and rising. Shatter and we are young are a couple of the worst tracks I’ve heard from them, so much that they are skipped over.
      I’m sure there is a story line here and that’s fine but story or not if the song and mv are not interesting that’s pretty much all that matters in music

  • @spiralwarrior6569

    At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion.
    The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
    The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
    It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song.
    The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

    I found this on TW: OP said @SilentNight511 : I see a lot of people confused about the "change of concept" and the lyrics, so I figured I would explain the context behind this MV. Before every comeback, Dreamcatcher always release a "mystery code" - a picture with hints about the future comeback. For this CB, the mystery code consisted of a whole ARG with an X account (ymenehcra99, who also appears in the MV in 0:48 and 2:35 ), documenting the descent into madness of the user, who was obsessed with "the crown". The person running the account mentioned doing things like spending lots of money on luxurious clothes, chasing a truck with the crown symbol and almost getting into an accident as a result, and they even posted an audio of what sounded like an alarm, as if they had stolen something; all that in order to be "worthy of the crown". This MV might seem flashy and superficial, but it's supposed to be satire about how things like the idol industry (and social media too) are not as glamourous as they seem at first, since a lot of what is posted is actually fake. It's also critisizing how some people are willing to do anything to be famous and get attention: buying nice clothes and faking a luxurious lifestyle (hence the OOTD lyrics being so narcissistic and so "generic" - they're playing as the "villains" who let fame and power get to their heads/won't stop at nothing to get attention -and Sua and Siyeon posing in front of cars and motorbikes around 0:27 and 0:40 ), staging fake drama (like Handong and Yoohyeon faking a fight in front of the camera in , only for Handong to help Yoohyeon immediately afterwards), or even editing their reality to make it look more interesting or appealing (see for example the very obvious green screen behind the girls during the dance scenes in 2:55 , or the multiple photo/video editing references, like in the very beginning of the video).
    DCC really put a lot of thought into the concept, so it's a pity that many people don't have enough context to properly understand it. Hopefully this comment clears the confusion about the lyrics and concept!

      I feel like the pause in the middle where Handong helps Yoohyeon up is the only point that really hints much at this being a satire, and it isn't enough to be able to tell from that bit alone. I figured there was a deeper meaning, but I wish they'd made it a tad more obvious in the MV. Context that you only get from the mystery code is gonna be lost on everyone who didn't see that promo material.

      You know, ARG and all of that stuff is really cool and all. But my issue with this is all of that additional stuff is just that - additional stuff, cherry on top, nothing less and nothing more. You can easily listen to the whole dystopia trilogy in any order, without watchng MV and without even knowing that those songs are connected and they will still be good. The lyrics will be good, the sound will be good, it will be a DC song. The same goes to Apocalypse, even though I don't like it that much and their debut songs. Even with BEcause, you do not need to know about the movie to enjoy the song. So, why do we need all that twitter stuff, articles, everything that is not directly in the song to actually enjoy it ? There is a saying "If you need to explain a joke it's a bad joke" the same goes here

    • @madelineva
      @madelineva 7 місяців тому

      I don't think they really need to explain the joke, you know? They made the ARG as an enriched fandom experience. This is a complement and if you get caught into the experience is cool, and if not, it's cool anyways. I just think it is richer, more sophisticated when people dig deeper and find out there's more to it than what they thought. There is always more to it when it comes to Dreamcatcher, and a true InSomnia would know that. @@vergilverner7920

      I guess it's fair that some people find this title track too different for their taste if they don't really care to look for the concept/lore and just want to vibe with music that suit their taste. But to say this song (or the whole album for that matter) is bad or disappointing is truly disheartening. The girls are experimenting and they are clearly having fun. Also OOTD is a grower, has many easter eggs in the MV and a cool mystery lore that leaves us wondering about the second part.

    13:50 "is there a reason..." From what I gathered, this comeback is centered on the fake aspect of the k-pop industry and the associated social media life. Everybody trying to outshine everyone else, building the idea you are super successful (when you are not all that successful), creating drama out of nothing (Handong angrily pushing YooHyeon to the floor, and then helping her up because it was just an act, she's not really mad at her, they are manufacturing drama...). Many people think they have "sold out" when in fact this is a very well thought out concept when you look at it in the spirit it was created.

  • @ikirurosemountain1590

    This is actually a very nasty song about narcisism and the emptiness of showbiz. “Beyond your reach”. Everything must be be perfect. Flawless, spotless. Yet at times there are bruises and scars all over them. Bragging about money and cars. “Get the F out of my way”. “Drunk every day”. Every shot is lifted from a typical K-pop video. The video crew is seen all the time but they are just black silhouttes. At the end they are shown surrounded by a circular green screen becoming an artificial stage. Nothing is real in this world. Oh, and of course: OOTD means “outfit of the day”. That’s what everything is reduced to in this world.
    Holy hell. I only now noticed: when the video stops after the fight one of the personnel is holding a GUN! In the end someone is holding the camera. They take it away. The cameraman falls to the floor. Now he has no power over them.

    DREAMCATCHER OOTD meaning:
    The song "OOTD" by Dreamcatcher appears to be about self-confidence and embracing one's personal style and individuality. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day," which is a term commonly used on social media platforms to showcase one's fashion choices.
    In the song, the members of Dreamcatcher express their confidence and uniqueness through their fashion choices. They assert that their fashion is their own, stating "OOTD, this my fashion, shut up, no more questions." They emphasize their ability to stand out and leave a lasting impression, comparing themselves to a time-lapse that will be remembered.
    The lyrics also touch upon their success and rise in the industry. They describe themselves as unforgettable and incredible, vying for attention and revolutionizing the scene. Despite facing challenges, they remain determined and focused on their goals, suggesting that they are on a different level than others.
    The chorus mentions materialistic elements such as champagne, necklaces, black dresses, and a luxury watch (rollie), implying a celebration of their achievements and a sense of luxury. It can be interpreted as a symbol of their status and success.
    The bridge and outro further emphasize their confidence and self-worth. They describe themselves as flawless, gorgeous, spotless, and priceless. This repetition highlights their belief in their own beauty and value.
    Overall, "OOTD" by Dreamcatcher celebrates personal style, confidence, and self-expression while also asserting their success and determination in the music industry. It encourages listeners to be proud of their uniqueness and to embrace their individual fashion choices.
