I don't think being a puppeteer is a weird thing, nor is it childish. It's art, and I never heard someone say that playing a music instrument is for kids. People just don't see the amount of training and handcrafting behind those "toys". This guy is 26 years old, and he is passionate about what he has to offer.
He’s currently working on creating large scale puppets for a play adaptation of the book of dust. You should check out his UA-cam, the puppets he’s making for the play are really incredible.

Why blame the tool? its all in the users skill that makes it a quality made puppet/art. 3D printer won't destroy his Quality because if he has fun making them, so be it.
What I love about his style is that he managed to fit and devise a lot of movement constricted in a certain position of hands. You've seen ventriloquist dummies, marionette, and even simple paper puppets attached to sticks, but this is a completely different form that requires skill and coordination to perform. And that's what i call talent
