    Saltburn… left me feeling so many things when the credits began to roll. Just like Promising Young Woman. Emerald has a talent for making things that linger on even after it has finished.

    I thought saltburn was a 10/10 masterpeice and anyone who thought it was empty, fluff or meh just had the genius fly over their heads imho.

      @@alechats5184 the take on the power fantasy, the darker side of humanity, the dissected view of classism, charity and honesty. Using purposeful elements that are style over substance to make a self aware take on the essence of style over substance. An unnecessary plot twist, that reveals nothing new of the charactar that emphasises the egotistical voices that play into the idenity of overcompensating intellect. The narrative of wearing the clothes of an emperor doesnt mean you can control an empire. And not to mention the absolutely perfect performances of the actors conveying such minute details of the complexity of empathy, desire, trauma and madness. The cinematography is obviously on point. All the shallow techniques of the films fit into the theme of making fun of how shallow a lot of us really are. The film is very self aware. Also, its a genre that is actually very fresh. An emotional fantasy. Its not an accurate drama. Its not really a comedy. Its not even a thriller or physiological one. Its a conversation of emotional voices that exist within our class divide in england.

      @@DallonJ i guess i can't elaborate that much against that - i didnt like it, i thought the commentary of classism was kind of unexplored but just like very on the surface - and i see your point of this being self aware but i just thought it 1 didnt landed 2 wasnt interesting or compelling enough and 3 lead to nowhere. the ending seemed to me to be very dumb while being taken seriously which is funny to me outside of what the movie tries to imply so… and i also felt the movie was constantly trying to be very cool and sexy just because; the idea of how this communicates some sort of message about beauty and appearances, fell short to me and it almost felt as if emerald was just replicating a fantasy she had in her head, it didnt make me think it was intelligent or nuanced, it was just dumb posing as intelligent.

      @@alechats5184i interpreted the movie less as a social or class commentary and more of a tale of just pure obsession and desire. watching it as a movie abt someone so consumed w desire they spiral out of control trying to possess someones entire being and life when they realize theyll never have that person i thought it was really enjoyable in that lens. i think the only real commentary on wealth was the hollowness of it all.

    First time i have heard of Emerald was this whirlwind about Saltburn these past few weeks but upon a quick wiki search and imdb glance, this is an enormously talented and accomplished woman already. An Oscar win for her first movie?? Wow, i'm a fan now and will be watching PYW and Saltburn after this.

    Despite the fact that she was way too pretty to play Camila (I can honestly say the same about Josh O'Connor as Charles 😂), she did a phenomenal job playing Camila. Probably one of the most overlooked talent in The Crown, not enough people talk about how good she was in playing Camila in The Crown

      @@marccardiff Eventhough she got it, barely anyone talks about her role. I mean when it comes to The Crown, the most that people remember from the cast point are Claire Foy, Emma Corrin, Elizabeth Debicki, Matt Smith, Olivia Colman, and John Lithgow, these people have the most praise out of all of them yet it overshadowed the rest of the cast

    It's driving me crazy that she's so obsessive about the details (and fucking brilliant about it too) but somehow everyone missed that Low by Flo Rida came out after the setting of the movie... I can't wait to see what she does next though!

    • @ameliacraiig4193

      Are you certain that scene featuring the 'Low' song wasn't set two years after 2006?

    • @hallow_cat
      @hallow_cat 3 місяці тому

      @@ameliacraiig4193 Fennell stated in multiple interviews that the movie is set in 2006-2007 (I think she may have meant this in a general sense, just around that time period). I could just be ignorant about how school terms work differently sometimes (and sometimes even within the same schools), but from everything I could gather (please let me know if I'm missing something, that happens easily and I don't know where else to look for info), it was probably just a slight flub. If anything that makes it more human and adds a sense of surrealism.
