I will get the BFI release of Seven Samurai as like you I have the bluray so have those features and I just want the 4k of the film. A great slate for Nov and all 4ks and in the sale month as well win-win.
Just preordered the BFI Seven Samurai 4K as well! With the additional commentary and Dolby Vision, no brainer for me since I too already have the Criterion blu-ray features.
Great month of releases and something for everyone! A no brainer to go with the BFI release at essentially the same price!
Agreed on the BFI Seven Samurai for me. With the new commentary and Dolby Vision it was too compelling to pass up.
Hi James. Great stream last night and certainly an exciting November lineup. I've emailed Criterion asking if they would consider creating a 4K "trade-up" program for existing Blu-ray owners (keep the package but, for a reasonable fee, just swap out the old Blu-ray disc for the UHD). With only a couple of exceptions, every 4K release of an existing title has kept the same supplements and packaging, and this has discouraged a lot of people from upgrading. I'll let you know if/how they respond to the suggestion.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the stream, island007100! Yes, please let us know if you hear anything.
@@20thand21stMovies Hi James. I communicated with Jon Mulvaney at Criterion about the possibility of an upgrade/trade-up program and received a reply from him today:
"Hi Robert,
Thanks for writing and being a supporter of our work! Unfortunately, there are no current plans to offer a trade-in program of existing releases that are/will be available in 4K, or for folks upgrading DVDs to Blu-rays. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you at the moment."
So it looks like we will be living in double-dip land for the foreseeable future, but it was worth a try. Enjoy your downtime with the channel this week and we'll be looking forward to your return.
Good line up but I'm still waiting for Robert Bresson on 4K
Any particular Bresson title(s) you want to see on 4K?
@@20thand21stMovies 'Mouchette' and 'Diary of a Country Priest' would be a great start.
I would also love a 4K, or hell, even a blu-ray of Victor Erice's 'The Spirit of the Beehive'.
I really wish Criterion would do some of the 'lesser known' films like they used to .
I'm sure glad I pre-ordered the BFI's 4K of Seven Samurai.
I already own the Criterion Blu-ray discs and I really prefer the BFI's artwork and packaging and the extras like the postcards and the booklet. 👍
I just preordered the BFI as well, Rob. The additional commentary and Dolby Vision sold it for me. Since I already have the Criterion as well it makes sense 😀.
Paper Moon is the one I’m looking forward to the most but I will also pick up The Shape of Water 4K since I have just the regular blu-ray. I will also be getting Scarface.
Paper Moon and Scarface 4Ks are on my list as well, Tim. Should make for a fun November!
I also have the Seven Samurai Blu-ray so i think I'll get the BFI 4K. I'm still skeptical Criterion may do a Kurosawa Box Set down the road??? I also have the previous 4K of Shape of Water so only if there are some worthy exclusive new extras I won't get that. I have the Godzilla Box Set (still need to watch it :) ) so no hurry for the 4K of Godzilla. I have a Blu-ray of Scarface, Funny Girl and Paper Moon but I will get the 4K upgrades. All 3 are great flicks 🙂
Funny Girl, Scarface, and Paper Moon Criterion 4Ks and BFI Seven Samurai 4K for me. Should be a fun time in November!
I don’t currently own the Criterion blu-ray of Godzilla and I might get this new 4K release but I’m still undecided if I want to get it or not.
If you don’t already have the Godzilla blu-ray it makes the decision for the 4K a little easier perhaps. Depends on how much you want the film in your collection.
Shape of Water is one of my all time favorite movies, I already have a 4K of it and I don’t even care, I’m still getting the criterion haha
Cool. I need to rewatch Shape of Water to see if it will have a different impression on me.
Is the BFI 4K disc of The Seven Samurai compatible with US machines?
The vast majority of 4K discs are region free
Most 4K discs are region free so it should play on US machines.
Scarface and an upgrade of Seven Samurai is it for me. Not a fan of the Shape of Water either.
Scarface Criterion 4K and BFI Seven Samurai 4K for me since I already have Criterion’s Seven Samurai blu-ray.
@@20thand21stMovies i will check out the BFI.
That box set is not for me, brotha!
Ha ha. Same here, KB 😀!
