How China Got Its Eyes All Over US Military Bases

- What is Lidar? It's necessary for all autonomous vehicles and self driving cars to "see." And it turns out China might be behind that eye, even on US military bases.

Which is why they also do all these things that every video game consumer DEMANDS, despite their democracy made it illegal: just use pirated solutions to make everything at the highest standard that people can pull off without "economic sanctions".
That is why you can do a 4K conversion or smart car API OUT OF A BASEMENT, but not INSIDE the US economy. Selling is BANNED iun USA, "sharing" is not, and "sharing" is how these China technologies ARE in every tech item. CONSUMERS are being REVERSE sanctioned, so long as they only collect AdSense bread crumbs. THAT is why Microsoft gets the loaf first.
THE VERY FACT that you can't just copy a document and sell it as your own, ecept Blutetooth thanks to the Swedes, is the EXACT source of this "anti-"consumerism. And its exact end goal is that "consumers" collect bloated salaries from copy no-right based US companies. THE ONLY REASON YU HAVE MONEY is this "copyright" protection, and Microsoft API's can't be SOLD by nintendo witouht paying CORPORATE TAX for it that you don't have to, on YOUR toddler lemanade stand.

One thing we underestimate is the skills of American salesmen that probably convinced these guys to use Chinese LiDAR. I sell databases to large American companies and work for a company with Chinese origins. There are a lot of parallels with what you explained here. Our database was made from Google tech on distributed computing and people like our tech because it so much more affordable than the Google solution while being almost as performant. My general manager in charge of US business also was an executive at Huawei that convinced a lot of African companies to use Huawei tech. I chose to work here because they pay so much better and give me so much more freedom to do what I want than American companies. Another thing is these guys go much more above and beyond to keep my customers happy than other American companies too. Many times my previous employers would be like “we can’t help with that” but these guys just get 3 engineers in China to do all the busy work for my customers for free.
It's a shame the military doesn't have their own Criminal Investigation Division or personnell in an Office that does Special Investigation, that could check into the associates of their equipment providers, before the military ended up with egg on their faces.

.......where companies are increasing NOT making old-school money/profit (and where their sold 'reality' is now too big to even independently audit) while their profit-prioritises are unfortunately diverted to serve the ideological purposes of their bigger investment firms, who are actively attempting to subvert and monopolise the free-market and REDEFINE the actual value of money to be based on their own vague (and self-serving/easily changed) ideological supposed 'values' instead (like supposed 'virtue' or 'sustainability'.....of themselves mostly and at the expense of all else).

There was a local politician (state senator) who was speaking on a local radio station last year. When asked about where they get their news from, they replied. "NPR, New York Times, and the local news papers". That is your problem. NPR has a grappling hold on a large segment of the adult population that think that they are the best/only news source around. I listen to them on my way home. Their choice in what news is reported is well known, which is why a lot of people enjoy only listening to them as it keep their bubble secure. If NPR doesnt talk about it, they don't listen. Ill listen to your Chris. Ill always listen to you.

Is Boeing dependant on parts from China, Russia, Vietnam, .. blar blar. USA is part of the world, no easy escape.
Yep.....we ain't getting 1957 hand wired, point to point electronics ever again. My last restoration job was a 1963 Hammond B3 organ and Leslie all tube power amp dual-rotation driver speaker. The amp got all computer grade components, ceramic sockets, Potter and Brumfield wirewound potentiometers, and a solid state switching PSU. The bass tones created a 0.2 Richter reaction. BUT, 60 years from now, that gear should be in the same operable condition as now with careful routine use.
I am an engineer that has actually looked at sensors like lidar. I have actually used some ultrasound based sensors for measuring distance. I agree that getting Chinese products imbedded in our military logistics stream is a bad idea. If the sensor is "dumb" e.g. simply outputs distance measurements to a controller I do not see how that could aid China. The data would need to be sent to China in some way along with context, where and when the data was collected. Without that the raw data is useless.
The best example of this I know of is DJI drones, they have lidar and other sensors including GPS and video and do transmit that data to servers which are based in China. That would be valuable to the Chinese military. The issue we have in the US is that our manufacturers do not want to produce lower end commodity products. Most LIDAR products probably fall into this category.
As much chance as eliminating insects.
I actually helped a small online retailer whom I bought from track down a Chinese business that stole their logo, name & copied their website. I was under the impression that the retailer was that Chinese company until I got on the phone with the owner. Tracked it down to Hunan Providence where the retailer is looking to take down that copycat Chinese company. I Would love to share all the information with you as it really caught the company and me off guard, knowing that Chinese companies are being this sneaky.
The answer is because Chines money runs deep and companies want cheap labor to make their products so they can make massive profits which in turn pays for lobbyists to make sure they can still make their products in China .
The thumbnail American Lidar I want two of them😂
Boy I sure hope the Alien Tech we're hiding in Area 51 won't be spied on.
In electric power tools brands like Chicago and Pittsburg are all Chinese. They also buy US brands. DeWalt, Milwaukee are now owned by Ryobi, ostensibly a Hong Kong based outfit. Telescope brands Meade and Celestron are now Chinese owned.
There are relatively few Americans engineers actually working in big American companies. American tech was developed by Asian workers. Limits on sanctions is what keeps high end tech as American as apple pie. Most Americans don't seem to grasp that concept.
Great video Chris and team! However, one issue I do have is the video description. Tesla doesn't actually use LIDAR for their cars (only cameras as Elon Musk is very much against using Lidar for Tesla full self driving).
Oh good point! I'll change that.
US government can’t be this stupid! Has to be by design. Fkn blows my mind
We need consumer affair board s in every county. Volunteer commissioners, to make awareness. They lobby to pass laws to protect consumers. We need the knowledge to make the right decisions for purchasing or banning mislabeled products.

Tempest is high resolution, particularly for the time. In order to reproduce those vector graphics with the same clarity as the Atari Vector monitor used in Tempest, you would need at least 1024x768 and probably more like 1280x1024. Furthermore, the visual effect of vector monitors is impossible to recreate on a CRT or LCD.
There are none so blind as those that will not see, In other words, the U.S military don't see it, because they don't want to see it, so they simply, don't look
