William "Carlton" Galvez - Jurame - 2013 MVE Best in the US Vocalist

William "Carlton" Galvez was selected by members of the world's preeminent Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan as the "Best Mariachi Vocalist it the U.S." during the 19th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio. He performed Jurame and was accompanied by Mariachi Azteca de America de San Antonio who performed under the direction of Gino Rivera. William is originally from Kyle and grew up playing mariachi music at Hemphill Elementary and the San Marcos Mariachi Academy. He graduated from Lehman High School in 2010 and is currently a student at Palo Alto College in San Antonio. William opened for Mariachi Vargas on Dec. 7 and was awarded a $2,000 scholarship thanks to AHMSA International, Buchanan's, Valero, People en Español and Mariachimusic.com. William will represent the Mariachi Vargas Extravagana in 2014.

Went to school with Carlton he’s super talented he can play every instrument in the mariachi and sing on top of that I hope his career in mariachi has gone far

This is the last time a male has won top MVE spot. This guy is an excellent singer. Big powerful resonating voice. Good song choice. However, since then so far, all the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza winners have been girls, and for good reason. In my opinion, girls make excellent singers.
