I have never commented but I LOVE all of your resources, they have been so helpful. I have structured much of the learning in our home around your unit studies as inspiration!
This is a really great approach! Thanks for sharing. I think I’ll apply this for an overview on world geography. I was thinking of using online geography drills but this looks so simple!
I love this idea of how to teach the countries/continents. Do you spend a year per continent on the ones that have a lot of countries/states in them? I haven’t traveled much but we went to Italy-Amalfi Coast in 2018 and we are going again this fall. It’s so amazing and beautiful!! I can’t wait. I’d love to go most anywhere! England, Scotland, Iceland would prob be some of my other top picks.
We have been spending a year with Europe. I think I will do the Americas together over a year, and will probably incorporate Oceania (Australia) when we do another continent, but otherwise one continent over a year. I love Italy! I agree it is beautiful and one of my favorite places on earth. England, Scotland, and Iceland are also fantastic picks. My 8 year old has been learning about Iceland and wants to go one day. 🙂
Hi Julia, thank you for your videos. It’s so helpful! I’m looking for a geography curriculum/book/ online to teach landforms, biomes, continents, everything. Do you have any suggestions?
There is not one perfect curriculum or book that I love... Two things come to mind. First is the Waseca curriculum (wasecabiomes.org/) - but that is more Montessori materials and not one book, and it's pricey. The second is the books Charlotte Mason used. Elementary Geography by Charlotte Mason covers the basics, but does not get into everything and is not as in-depth as I would like, but could be good to build on (here is an updated version: www.juniperpines.com/living-geography/). Home Geography for Primary Grades by CC Long is similar (also recommended by Charlotte Mason, so old). (www.amazon.com/Geography-Primary-Grades-Living-Press/dp/192572915X). We used it years ago as a spine to build on for geography. I will be coming back to physical geography next year, so this is a good refresher for me! Thanks for the question!
It's so much easier to see how these things are done in practice rather than reading a blog post or something so thankyou for that.
I agree. I am glad it was helpful!
Seterra is a great (free) online version to do map drills
Great tip! Thanks!
This is helpful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
