- Testing the Poly-Fast polymer clay sanding tool on polymer clay. This vibratory sander helps you to get rid of fingerprints and other unwanted markings in short order. It's another sampler clip from our PcT Studio Cam video series.
Soon, I will be doing a full review of this hand-held Poly-fast vibratory sander. So if if there is anything specific that you would like to know about, do let me know in the comment section below.
Video #752: The makers of this unique sanding tool from Belgium, sent me a demo unit to test out. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

"Make what you love... Love what you make."
Haha you made me spit out my tea with the vibrator comment! Gotta love ya Cindy :)
Hey Cindy I bought the Polyfast sander and it helps me and it doesn't cause my pain to increase. The only problem I had is with the Velcro that holds the sanding disk came off but I used some good glue and it works fine now. I think it works fine.
I am waiting patiently for my new tool to arrive. I just couldn't resist. 🤗 Thank you for a great tutorial, Cindy.
I'd love to see how it turned out? did you like the tool? was it worth it? I'm sick of hand sanding.
I have this tool since a few months, and I LOVE it!!
Where did you buy the tool do you know of web site?
I'm from France, so I bought it on a french web site. It's "Perles & Co". But I don't know if they ship to the US. You can also buy it on poly-fast.com
yes i want to see a full review ! i kind of already want one
Have to say I really like this tool.
Thanks!
PolymerClayTutor I bought the sander after watching this video. I really like it. Much easier on my fingers. Only thing is, I have to keep gluing the Velcro disk onto the end every few projects.
I'm glad to have your opinion on it because it was a kind of revolution in France a few months ago, unfortunately I really don't like those vibrations so I stay to manual sanding !
Yeah the vibrations won'tbe for everyone.
Hey I wanted to say you have your american express card laying out in the video. People these days are morons and will try and take your info
Christine G It's a fake card ;)
Oh okay =) lol I was worried. I knew she wouldn't have her REAL card out all willy nilly like that
Haha je me suis dit tiens ce nom m'est familié ^^
Il faudrait prendre les polisseurs d'ongles (dans les trucs cheap qui coute 15€ dans les foire fouille) et mettre les papiers dessus :)
Love how you say whatever comes to mind lol Neat review. I was thinking about getting this sort of machine but it's probably overkill for my own uses.
It looks OK but it is pretty expensive to buy in the UK! Thanks for showing us. xx
i'd be very interested in a full review of this product; anything to assist in sanding is a great tool!! thanks for the studio cam access; Iooking forward to that membership opportunity too!
Thank you +TheRindyo ! I am glad you like the StudioCam videos. I appreciate your input!
Hello random person scrolling through the comments! Have a nice day!
rhiannon thank you. You too!
You are amazing I have learned so much from you
Wow, thank you! That means a lot for you to say! 💖
I just got mine omg it is wonderful thanks for info love your channel keep it coming
Thanks Diann! Glad you're enjoying your new tool and that you're getting lots out of the videos! :)
I don't think I would buy that tool because I hate the pollution of batteries and the cost. I simply use a ziplock baggy and put the working end through the corner of it and secure it with a rubber band, making sure I don't close the zipper part. I like the zipper kind because it makes the open part stay open with its stiffness. I started doing the tool that way when I started carving bone and antlers with my Dremel. Using water to keep the dust down and soften the blow of the smell of those two substances. I still wear my respirator because we live in an area that is southeast of Chicago. The wind comes out of Canada usually and blows the pollution our way. In fact, we have a 75% asthma rate for the school-age kids in Gary and Miller Beach Indiana. So, with that and being in the flight path for landings at our small airport, our lungs take a beating.
Hi Cindy! I am fairly new to Polymer and I am having problems with sculpting items that may or may not need wire to help with structure. For example, I want to sculpt a tree and i cannot seem to get the clay around the wire cleanly or if I am doing a figurine i don't know how to use the wire without being neat. If that makes sense. I have been through your videos and couldn't find anything like that. Thank you in advance!
Cindy, I'm wondering if you are still using this tool & what you think about it? I'm interested in it, but don't wanna spend a lot of money without seeing more on it...
I have the JoolTool but don't use it much because I'm not sure how to properly use it yet and have had mixed results. Do you feel like the JoolTool is still superior?
The JoolToolis a wonderful tool. If you're having troubles it is most likely because you are using it at too high a speed. It is a superior tool in my opinion, but it is a LOT more expensive. I'd have to look it up again, but I think this one is around $50-$60 bucks which will be in the ball park for a lot more people.
Great video. Great tool. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome! Thanks for popping by!
Sadly we can't find the Polyfast anymore ... what do you recommend instead ?
Cindy I got this, and am a little disappointed with the results, compared to hand-sanding. I wonder if I used each one long enough. Does it work differently on pearl clay? I'll keep experimenting. Thanks!
You and me both. Takes forever to do what you do in minutes with hand sanding
Great, Love it. Thank you so much. x
Great video!
this tool looks good, especially as ive had a finger and 1/4 of my hand amputated so sanding is very difficult not to mention painful...maybe my birthday will bring 1 for me. lol
Sorry to hear about your hand Lee Tau, but it sounds like you are able to work with the injury. This tool may work for you quite well. How does vibration affect you? Can you hold a palm sander for any length of time? Just wondering if a machine likethis will still cause you discomfort.
I use a cat litter tray of water- works brilliantly!!
Cindy, if your piece has a lot of texture should it be sanded or just add a glaze.
Cindy would you recommend for sanding backs jewelry before gluing to adhere.
You can do that.
WARNING !! Make sure you put PFPCS-Tool away and nowhere near the Bed-Side Cabinet.. Abrasive Danger Risk !!
Oh Yay....look at you.....all smart and stuff
@@tressinar Ikr!🙄
Cindy, Where can I find the best buy on the Poly Fast Sander as I am disabled and cannot sand by hand due to pain caused by severe Nerve Damage as a result of Degenerative Disc Disease of the Spine. Thank You for your help in this matter, Elizabeth
I use a dremel with sanding/polishing wheels(which are really cheap in bulk online), and rarely do I use the high setting, that's for final buff before I glaze the bead/pendent. IF I glaze. But with that speed, power and the right buffing wheels, it starts to gloss up in seconds. It's really cool, but the dremel took a little getting used to. I got it for engraving and designs I want to do and for drilling bead holes. Now I use it for everything! I didn't catch, how much do those go for?
Where can I get that tool? I have carpel tunnel damage as well in both wrist!!! the Thought of Sanding by hand are like fingernails on a chalk board!
hi. Now that you've had the poly-fast for a while, how are you like it? Is it still working good?
I went to the only link I could find for Poly-Fast and holy cow that is one expensive tool! It's 64.00 dollars in US dollars, not including what you pay in shipping overseas. I couldn't find a US store that sells this, or a US (English) website. Is there a US website, or do you know of any US stores that carry this product? I would be interested, but not confident about ordering from over seas. Thanks
so you can really wet polymer clay after it has been in the oven?
Yes, it is plastic and therefore waterproof.
@@PolymerClayTutor awesome! thank you!
really, really like this tool, as well as the video. Is it possible to purchase one here in the States? If so, where? Enjoy your videos so much. Keep up the good work.
I'm just looking into all that. I will havemoreinformation when I do get the chance to do the full review.
Hi Cindy how would I be able to purchase both the sander , and the simple slicer, I feel I really need them.Haha xx
would like to see full review
Will you be using this on some rounded beads for tests? :D
Yes, I will make sure to sandsome small round beads as well, soyou guys can see the results.
Yay! Thanks lady!
I do not like the tool. It is to fat for easy handling. Plus it would not work on small pieces with small spaces. I have been using a dremel with an extension so I can use or under water. So far it is the best tool so far for this. Just my opinion.
It works for small pieces just fine. I'll be able to show more about it later when I do a full review.
I wanted to point out a bit of info I found about the toxicity of polymer clay. They say it is non-toxic but if you have the polymerizer on your hands and touch your eyes or mucus membranes, it can cause blisters. Also, allowing the clay to burn makes the polymerizer toxic. I got the blister info from experience and the toxic info from the FDA.
6:45 if you want to just see sanding in action
Cat litter tray would work for putting sander in water to do sanding!!
Perhaps I didn't read the thread far enough down. Where can this be purchased in the U.S.?
I don't believe they have a distributor in the US yet but you can order them from their website at www.poly-fast.com
I can't see it real clearly, but I'm hoping that Doug's American Express card has already expired or has been previously cancelled!
Neat little gadget though. I'm definitely going to look into it. I do some sanding with my Dremel, but it certainly isn't ideal since it can't be used with/in water. I wasn't able to find the Polyfast available on any North American websites, so shipping may end up being almost as much as the sander! If anyone has found them in the US or Canada, I'd love to know about it.
It actually isn't a real credit card... it's just a one time use gift card that can be used as a credit card. The number is useless. Thanks for caring though.
This product looks like a great idea. My concern is that it looks large in ur hand. It could, at this size, cause problems for people who have nerve damage or various problems with their hands. Just my opinion but I feel they (mfg) needs to consider a smaller version for people who may have ailments in their hands. Another idea might be to shape it like a glue gun possibly. Thanks for showing us new products and the efficiency of those products.
I have lots of issues with my hands and I can tell you that it's not too large at all. The vibration is also very mild, and the tool itself is very light. Those are big pros for it. The cons would be that it's not very efficient.
Darla Harr I actually have severe arthritis in my hands (having surgery in 2 weeks). But this sander is easy for me to use, I just need to hold it in a different manner. I think each person has to find their comfort zone with it.
Kathy that is very true that each person needs to find their own comfort level with this product. I was just throwing out a couple ideas for different models or styles for various style options and things they might consider
Oh right, I know. Just sharing my perspective. You know the one thing I don't like about it is that it eats batteries like crazy. I guess I will have to invest in rechargeables.
Will it work on regular clay ceramics? Thanks
I don't do ceramics but if you would use regular sandpaper on ceramics then yes you could use this tool. It is just a vibratory sander. It doesn't mater what you sand with it.
Thank you for the review. But, isn't there a way to do this with a Dremel? What kind of camera are you using to film?
The big drawback with a Dremel is that it isn't designed to be used in/under/with water. I also am not sure you can get the variety of sandpaper grits that this device offers. I could be wrong about that, but I certainly haven't seen more than a handful of grits available for the Dremel. I do use my Dremel to do some sanding on my clay projects, but not for very fine, detailed work.
Auto part stores have 1000-3000+ grit papers.
Yes auto supply stores carry the fine grits. However, the Dremel uses special little sanding drums that are made by Dremel. It's the Dremel sanding drums that I haven't seen in the really fine grit.
You might be able to add the finer grit paper to an older drum with some double stick tape.
hmmm. I just use a dremel tool. it's basically the same thing. they come with all sorts of attachments. I picked mine up from Lowe's for 40 bucks I think. it's cordless.
Or a nail drill which is basically a dremel tool anyway.
your credit card is in plain view! I assume youve changed it by now but just letting you know.
That's not a real credit card. that's a pre approve card just for those checking it now
Hello! I know, this is an older video... I'm curious to purchase the poly fast but can't find any online? Do you know of any alternatives like this out there with a wet/dry sander
I’m just now finding this, too lol. I want to know the same thing. I use a dremel now but it seems too powerful for clay.
@@Haydenmonroewood hello hope you are well. What grit are you using?
Cindy, WARNING: Are you aware that you American Express Card Number is showing on your desk?
Thanks for watching my back Elizabeth, but that isn't a real card. It was just empty loadable card. I appreciate you letting me know though. 💖
Great.
looks useful, do u think i could order it from Amazon ?
Not as far as Iknow, but I'll be able to give more info on thatin the review. Just a little too buzy right now to look into it.
Yeah, I agree with you with the vibration bothering your arm. It sounds like you have figured out something that works better for you!
seems like a great tool. waiting for mine in the mail. can you tell me the width/diameter of the sanding disc that come with the tool?
6:11 and the sanding has not started yet
how I can buy it?
www.poly-fast.com
Do you realize you have your credit card or debit card in the background? Not a safe thing to have there! Delete that!
In a previous comment she said it wasn't a useable card 😊
Did you seriously leave your credit card number visible the entire time?!
I actually thought the same thing. Not that smart.
It's not a credit card... I'm not that dumb. It's one of those onetime use gift cards that you can use as a credit card. Thanks for being worried about it though.
Phew! That's a good thing, because the internet is a dangerous place to leave your information lying around. I'm glad you finally have the poly-fast and I'm waiting for the full review :) I will actually be adapting my dremel cutting disks and glue velcro on them and on the sandpaper, make my own poly-fast that way :P
Yeah there are all sorts of methods of sanding. I plan to go into several other ideas I have, in the future... but we just have to get this darn website finished, before it kills us!
Oh I want this thing!
Where can I buy it?
www.poly-fast.com
It's okay guys, it's just an AmEx gift card 😂
... an expired gift card... 😉
Usually really like your videos but not that much into the real time style videos like this one.
Yeah, everyone has different tastes. Once we get backto normal we'll have both the regular youtube style videos and some samplers from the StudioCam videos. So there should be something for a few different tastes anyway... though I doubt we'll please everyone, all the time.
i wish u could get to and stay on the point faster... god... just demonstrate the thing will ya? lol 11 min vid and took u 6 1/2 to get to it and u can barely finish a complete sentence lol
