not sure if uve shown this before but u can weigh the piece after you cut away the flash to determine how much plastic to weigh out for the next cast so that there isnt flash the second time . Lovely way to start my morning :) thank u for the video!
OUTSTANDING IDEA!!!!! For real. Makes total sense, and is something I will use in the future! I'm about to straight PIN this comment so someone else can find it as useful as I just did. Thank you!!!!!
Sarah Barnhill hi Sarah 👋 it may not work for this but I use a HOT KNIFE for Resin work, to get the drips off of the back side of my paintings & coasters etc.. so your idea is a great idea there 👌. For anyone who wants to know.. A ‘Hot Knife’ is like the ones used for cutting thru styrofoam for shaping. Some are like a wire cheese cutter DON’T get the cheese cutter lol 💨 but if ya look around eBay or amazon there’s another kind that looks like an Exacto knife & they come with many different blades that can be used in the same knife. Total game changer for resin drips! I don’t tape off the backside of anything anymore.. a hot knife thru resin drips is like cutting thru warm BUTTER! Cheap cheap ($12) and sooo practical. It may work for this as well.. if ya used the tip of a blade and get in & out kind of quick 🤔
Yes! Love this stuff. Some points to add: - This is sold under a million names because it's not patented. The actual name of the material itself is 'polycaprolactone'. Helps with searching for it - It can really stick well to certain other plastics, especially when it's really hot. I was worried for you, feel like you kinda got lucky not to end up with a permanent blob on your castle door! - It's pretty strong, you can really build stuff with it. My favourite trick with that is, if your part needs screws or bolts, you can wrap it around them and when it cools you've got perfect threaded holes right there
After all this time, this is the first channel that I backed thru patreon. Mainly because crafsman speaks from the heart and truly cares about what he does. Keep up the great content!
The digital calipers that I ordered came in the mail today, and the first thing I thought was: “Now I’ll be able to measure the thicknicity of whatever I want!”😄
This was genuinely one of the greatest crafting video I've watched. This man sounds like the sweetest guys, and his little comments here and there made me smile, while also teaching me!
@@TheCrafsMan I was interested in figure making and searched resin casting and that's how I found your channel. The way you talk is really captivating, demands full attention and the way you explain things while showing stuff with your hands is so satisfying and entertaining. Cheers from Hungary :)
Crafsman, once again you have inspired me to steadier craftin. I am a wargamer, and that hobby gets real expensive, real quick. I dont play competitively, only at my friendly local game store, and guys there have 3d printed minis and such. Just ordered me some InstaMorph, cant wait to be the first lad to have handmolded plastic minis! Much love from California.
I have some of these thermoplastic beads. I knew I could use Sculpey with them but I had no idea I could use thermoplastic on thermoplastic! I thought the hot piece would warm the mold up enough to deform it. Now I know it's safe to do. Thank you so much Craf'sman for all that you do. I love these videos. The way you speak, and the sense of humor, the down to earth genuine presentation. You are a gift that the crafting community doesn't deserve! But we are so glad you're here!
The injection molding was cool, but the getting started costs on this are fantastic, I think I'll be able to get a lot done with this, thank you for making this!
Mr Crafsman, just your voice and the work you do, causes my cortisol levels to bottom right out. I mean, I could not be more relaxed and happy than watchin your videos. Thank you very much Mr Crafsman!

There is NOTHING like starting your day with a new Crafsman video! I played with He-Man and She Ra as a kid and this really hit home. Thank you so much for all that you do!! Love y'all, and keep steady crafting.
Yes, epoxy clay and epoxy putty can be used to cast items out of those mold. Also, that is the same plastic used in Worbla, so you can join the pieces you make to Worbla easily. There is also sheets of this material available, as well as colored beads that can be mixed it for some intense colors.
some cheap toothbrushes are made from the same plastic too, so if you can’t find the official products where you’re at, get some cheap toothbrushes and try boiling them, if the plastic goes soft you can use that to experiment.

Fun story: my youngest brother (12) got some of this to make faux fangs for Halloween and went ahead and did it without supervision,, and encased his entire bottom row of teeth WITH braces and was unable to get it off. We had to go to the ER, who then sent us to the orthodontist where they had to use a diamond bit dremel to carve the plastic out.
I've had a little tub of thermoplastic beads for ages; I don't use them very often, but sometimes they come in really handy... Never even considered dyeing it, though!
So I got me some wood and some resin... and I made my own little sign... it said "Thank you Crafsman for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine!".

If there's still flash, you could probably stick your xacto knife into the hot water bath to heat it up a little for easier cutting too!
