  • Zürich Railway Station SWITZERLAND
Zürich Hauptbahnhof (often shortened to Zürich HB, Zürich Central Station) is the largest railway station in Switzerland and one of the busiest in Europe. Zürich is a major railway hub, with services to and from across Switzerland and neighbouring countries such as Germany, Italy, Austria and France.
The 131 m long, 43 m wide and 26 m high station hall is the largest covered public space in Switzerland, with the emptiness reinforcing the monumental impression. The only permanent facilities are stairs, escalators and lifts, which lead down through three large rectangular openings in the hall floor.
The eleven-meter-high, 1.2-ton figure L'ange protecteur by Niki de Saint Phalle has been hanging from the roof on steel cables since November 1997. The gift for the 150th anniversary of the main station depicts a “Nana”, a voluminous woman in the shape of a guardian angel. The figure, made of an aluminum frame and plastic, is painted with pop art motifs.
An average of 400,000 passengers use Zurich Central Station every weekday.
