I am looking at a used 2013 touareg tdi with about 95k miles for $18,000. What do you think? Given it being diesel, I was told they last long? Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated!
You did not discuss the major engine upgrade for 2013. Beginning in 2013 the older less powerful cata engine was replaced with the more powerful 245 HP engine with the same torque rating of 407 ftlbs. A 20 hp increase.
I've got the 2014 v6 diesel with 200kw., love mine. Mine has the pneumatic suspension, tire pressure monitoring...love being able to switch from sports to normal then comfort settings..20" wheels, slotted rotors and brembo brakes...standard.. I love it that much, will be getting the 2019 model. I can get up to 1000km per tank highway driving.
Picking one up (hopefully!) in a couple weeks. Such a great review. THANK YOU! It really helps for when we test drive and I hope purchase! Touareg TDI Lux Sport FTW!
Good review! Mine is the exact same color, but with black interior and it is the 2014 TDI model. For a100K, I had 2 issues passenger sunvisor holder clip broke and a noisy heater fan, which both I managed to fix myself for a less than 100$. I had mercedes before that and the Touareg is more reliable, quiet and handles way better in deep snow. Also the Touareg is not discontinued, there is all new 2019 model, which won't be offered in North America.
Sorry, my channel is focused on the US market but you are correct. I wish they were going to continue it here. Much better SUV than the Atlas in my opinion.
I have a 2014 TDI Touareg and getting ready to buy a 2021 Airstream BaseCamp X trailer. I was looking at a 2021 Tacoma double cab TRD off road to pull the trailer. Would you buy the Tacoma or stay with the TDI?
Well it sure sounds like a good price assuming its a clear title and doesn't have any issues. They can be speedy to maintain, but I think they are one of the top SUVs you can buy!
@@DrivenCompanion The reason is well publicized. Sales were dismal for several reasons and VW wanted room to introduce the 7 passenger Atlas. The reason for poor sales was that a better version of the Touareg was sold by Porsche (Cayenne is the best selling Porsche in the US) and Audi (Q7 and Q5 were Best selling Audis in the US), which luxury SUV buyers preferred over a brand not known for $60,000 vehicles. Also, American market seemed to prefer 7 seater SUVs. Meanwhile, Touaregs sold about 7,000 a year on average (2011-2017) and only accounted for 2% of VW sales in the US.
Touareg's don't have the best reputation for reliability but they do have really high quality materials for interior and exterior which to me make them worth the money to continue to maintain into their old age. In general diesels have fewer issues because they have fewer moving parts than a gasoline engine. I would also make sure you get one that has been well maintained with all the records and continue to stay on top of routine maintenance yourself.
@@DrivenCompanion Thanks for the info. I have found one that is a one owner and has flawless records not to mention very clean and well maintained. Might have to go for that one, plus has the TDI extended warranty which will cover any costly repairs that may occur. Hard not to love them once you have driven one. Thanks again.
I have a 2016 touareg tdi that we've had since 2015 with zero problems and it has 50,000 miles on it but maintenance is high, a new windshield costs $800 and new brake pads and rotors are over $2,000
@@BMH-xz7nh I really hope you didn't pay that much money, there's no reason to spend over $200 for pads and rotors and it takes an hour at most to do it yourself
I'm looking at a 2014 Touareg VR6 R-Line with 74,000 for $18,990. Should I pass on it or did VW fix some of the issues on these. I've been in the market for the Q5 but seen the Touareg and it looks really clean.
This review ping-pongs all over the place. It speaks to the interior, and then briefly goes to the Offroad, and then goes back to the interior, and then never really addresses off-road functions. It doesn’t really make any comparison to other competitive models from BMW or Audi. It’s also listed as a 2013 review but there’s no comparison to the previous model. It should be listed as a Touareg type two overview. If you are need to be more conscientious about organizing a review in clarifying what he wants to say before he just approaches it randomly
The competition for me is between the Touareg and the Q5 ... the Q7 is more expensive I know size-wise that is the correct competition but price-wise it is what I mentioned. Can one get a II. gen Touareg that is still a real Torsen quattro? What is your opinion on getting a Q5 vs getting a Touareg? I go on hikes into the mountains so bad dirt roads are a thing but not Moab level off road (I don't want to go that far just to the trailhead), so just bad quality dirt roads maybe washed out a bit and with rocks. I live in Eastern Europe and I need to replace my old Audi A4.
The Q5 has much more of a car-like ride and performance whereas the Touareg feels a bit more like a truck and will definitely perform well offroad - its also a bit less exciting to drive on pavement. The Q5 will handle the occasional dirt road just fine. I'd go that route unless you want the extra space, offroad capability or tow capacity of the Touareg. You can't go wrong with either choice though!
@@DrivenCompanion thank you :) It looks like then it is the Q5 for me ... it is smaller and I can still get it with a stick shift (albeit I have to give up the manual hand brake) ... I need it to get to trailheads not for real hard off roading. Thanks again for the answer.
If you want something with a more truck-like ride and towing capacity or need a larger cabin and cargo area go with the Touareg. If you prefer a sporty ride with car-like handling and don't mind it being a little smaller go for the Q5
Those Audi Q5's get horrible reliability ratings. Look on CarMax... there will be a handful of Audi models, and a ton of Q5's for sale. We looked at them and decided on the Touareg with a factory warranty from VW because of the emissions "scandal".
I love my 2013 Touareg TDi. It has a huge loading capacity, I moved a couch in mine. I get about 700 miles from a tank of diesel on the highway.
That is good to hear. I'm considering one of these.
At best it is average, really only barely having more cargo volume than the smallest compact SUV's on the market like Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.

Purchased a 2014 TDI Sport recently. Very happy.
What's your ownership experience a year later
I'm really considering one. I see a few ones here are there in a 100 mile radius (TDI) with lower than 60 K miles, one owner, accident free. under 20K
Very nice review. The difference in CPO versus no warranty Tourareg's in the Carolina's is significant.

I have a 2006 and a 2004, love both of em
Probably one of the top 10 SUVs ever
Decent review. Forgot to point out that the rear seats recline to some extent. Not a feature found on many SUVs.
Not discontinued, just not available in USA, we have new ones in Europe!
Good review! I bought a 2014 TDI with 67k on it and love it.

The Touareg TDI will pull far better than the Tacoma!
Thanks for this. We're pulling the trigger on this exact model, and I'm trying to figure out if this model year requires DEF? Do you know?
Hello. All TDIs need DEF Blue, but only every about 1k miles
Touareg tdi 3.0 2012 with 140000km in Québec. Good idea???
What's the price?
11000$

should probably be pronounced twareg, named after a nomadic tribe in Africa... great review. man the inside of that vehicle is really just stunning.
the touareg still exist in Europe
Yes, all the more reason why i don't understand them discontinuing in the US. Far better vehicle than the Atlas they replaced it with here.

What color is this one, Canyon Gray or Galapagos Gray? Thx
my 2013 touareg tdi exec has a push button start. that is weird that it wasn't at all levels...
I saw one for sale in Canada. It is the exact same year and model that you have here. Mileage is 102k (in km's) for $25,500. Good deal or not?
could be a bit cheaper i think, but it depends on the options and the condition of the vehicle

Sergio Saenz I know but if I did it anywhere else it voids my warranty
Actually this is the 3rd generation. The 2nd gen looks similar to the 1st but was majority new even if visually similar.
Actually, it's not. The "2nd" generation you speak of was just a facelift, but it was mechanically the same vehicle.
