I found that tall and long armed guys fair can utilise the slide as an advantage. The spin seems to work better with shorter stocky guys who have a lower center of gravity, which allows them to use the spin as an advantage.

Well i think the rotation technique got a longer distance of acceleration than the glide technique.
I think so
Track and Field starts at my school next week.. this is going to be my first year competing in not just this but any sport due to reconstruction on my feet via surgery.. I'm a junior in high school, I really want to setup for next and I was wondering what method I should go for..
I am not sure of the extent of your foot injuries and timelines. But if you can rotate on the ball of your foot (with throwing shoes...because your sneakers are not designed to rotate but are for grip) try the rotational technique.
I would personally say go for the glide technique if your coach isn't sure about what how to teach rotational, self taught is great but you should really have a conversation with your coach
Personally I think it varies from person. They each do well depending on the individual
I thought that Walsh has his weight more behind him at the end there whereas Storl seems to not have as much of his weight back and is more upright as you've pointed out....
Great comment... but I did not have a side view of Thomas to make an absolute observation.
Thanx......I will say...I'm on the fence as to which technique is better....I think I've essentially come to the conclusion its really up to the thrower ha ha.....Although, I will say this....if Walsh were to glide I don't think he ever comes close to what he throws using the rotation method....that being said, I'm not sure the same could be said if Storl were to work on the rotation technique and if he were to master it as I feel he is athletic enough to master it. Also, I tend to believe the shorter throwers (if 6' 1" is shorter haha) are better served using the rotation whereas taller ones, like Storl or that other 6' 10" guy, are more apt to be better at the glide since they have more body mass to have to control....anyway, just some thoughts..thanx for the vid...I love your breakdowns... : D
@@trevorregay9283 Trevor... most international coaches say the standing position to a glide at the highest level will get the athlete 2 more meters. Whereas a rotational technique would get you 4 more meters. Again at the highest level... 19+ meter ranges and higher. There is no dought that shorter throwers (6'2..6'3) should do the rotation. The taller throwers should consider rotation, but the taller you are the smaller the circle gets. Thanks for your comment... have an amazing season ahead.
"If you're a glider continue to glide". Bad advice. Rotating is a more complex movement, more difficult to learn. Long term it's less damaging for your body, maybe not harmful at all because it's not a jerky action, the acceleration being gradual. Storl will pay the price doubly at a later stage of his life: damage from the suboptimal technique (for a glider his technique is very good indeed, but it's the lesser technique) plus damage from the steroids. Walsh will pay the price for the use of steroids "only". My advice: if you're a glider change to rotating.
@@stefanlempen4346 what do you mean by steroids???
u r saying tall shot putters are using glide then think about ryan crouser he is a rotator
He started with the glide in high school.
uberboat45 most people start with gliding because it’s “easier” to teach
@@olivia2974o Yeah doesn't mean it's that much inferior. Crouser used the glide up until his senior year in high school. He was throwing 65-70 ft with the glide. Also, most elite female shot putters use the glide (some theorize it's due to female being too flexible and not getting as much stretch on the spin) and the high school world record is held my a glider. No one had come within 4 feet of the record too (81 ft).
uberboat45 I never said it was inferior but to each their own
@@olivia2974o well sorry sounded like you were insinuating it was an inferior technique. And yes, some people are gliders while others are spinners. Both are viable techniques
If you're a tall athlete, is there a style that is better for you?
Slide, because you emphasize on stretching your arm as far out of the circle as possible, using your reach as an advantage. Don't forget to flick your wrist as well and make sure it rolls out of the tips of your fingers.
tall can be glide but short one can do rotation cause it becomes easy .
No the current wr holder Ryan Crouser spins, he is 6’7 David storl is 6’6 but the spin is the more effective technique no debate
sir where are you from...
Where did you go
