I purchased a couple of sets of Foxwood (12-54) lights. I've been using Elixirs for a while and I thought based on the video, I would try them. I put the strings on my HD-28 Custom grand Ole Opry and I must say they are fantastic. The tone is what surprised me. I typically don't review much stuff but I thought this was worth writing it up. Thanks Jeremy for continuing to provide useful content
As an "old guy", my favorite strings were a combo of D'addario XL and Boomer customs. For all of my Gibson/Epiphone axes, it was straight ahead XL 009's. For my Fenders, it was boomer custom .008 to .040 sets. Over the past 20 years or so, I shifted to all D'addario for simplicity in purchase. While digging through an ad mail from PremiereGuitar, I saw the ad for Stringjoy. Jumping on their website, I discovered their Custom option. Holy Moley, I can get my old touch on my Fenders again! I quickly placed an order for 3 sets of custom strings for my Strats and a Tele. Got them yesterday and putting them on today.
I am a Stringjoy subscriber. I love the strings and the history of the company. The guys who work there are awesome. So I got an email from them about the Foxwood strings. I ordered a set and strung then on a all Honduran Mahogany Breedlove concert. When I got the new strings in tune, I leave them hanging on the stand for 24 hours so the guitar and the strings get to know one another. Right before I was going to get the guitar out and try the new strings, I watched your video. I absolutely love these strings. They just sing from top to bottom. I am curious to see how long they last. I have very acidic skin so coated strings tend to degrade after a month or so. Thanks so much for the video. Very timely.
Just bought my first electric guitar, took it to the closest luthier who was highly rated for a setup before i started my journey. He installed stringjoy strings. No complaints from a beginner perspective
Round cores will also let go of the windings when you wear through them on the frets. I love them, but about 2 weeks of daily play is what I get from them. I've been playing DR Pure Blues, but I've just picked up some Stringjoys for my next change in their nickel over round style.
So just to clarify, the Foxwoods are the new name for the costed strings Jeremy really seems to like and has been testing for a year? I’m only asking because people seem to have been reviewing the strings on their site for several weeks now - maybe Jeremy made this video a while ago? Anyway, just want to make certain we are talking about the same strings. I have preferred the D’addario XT Phosphor Bronze. I tried the XS once courtesy of some samples D’addario offered to me. I definitely like the more balanced sound of the XT’s that get more Bass when I dig into the low E, A, and D. The XS sounded a bit less muddy overall, but it was too bright for my tastes. I actually prefer the coating on the XT’s even though it adds some squealing noise while sliding between notes. I found the XS to be much quieter, but they were a little too slick for my fingers, which sometimes slipped off the sides of the strings. I’ve said that I’d love a string that takes all the things I love about the XT’s with a less muddy/blurred tone while strumming and less squeal like the XS. The next time I need strings (I still have some free packs thanks to reward points, samples, etc.), maybe I’ll give these new StringJoys a go. The price definitely falls between the XT and XS range, and it sounds like they have some added qualities I’ve been hoping for.
Yes, I have had the string lab coated strings for almost a year and have really liked them. They don't feel slippery like elixirs, which sometimes is good, but these still feel very musical like regular guitar strings. They've changed their name to the foxwood from string lab.
I started using Santa Cruz strings about 3 months ago and I swear by them now. At first string up they felt super loud and biting but after about a week that edge rounded off but retained the loudness and clarity. Super huge fan of these.
Looking forward to hearing the Stringjoy Naturals on my Martin which is currently at a Martin authorized dealer for binding repair/new saddle and set up. I've only used Elixir coated strings for years , The shop had Elixir strings in stock but asked if I've ever tried Stringjoy strings . I went with the Naturals for the set up to try and purchased a set of coated for later.
Just put my first pair of foxwood lights on my D-28 Modern Deluxe and I was actually shocked at how good they sound. Great product, and i'm going back for more
Excited to check out the Foxwoods! The one nice thing with XS, well a couple. 1 is Player Points & that once a year D'Addario does the 999 point XS set. Also, GC regularly has them at 20% off, or you can log in to GC, then go back for a week, and they'll send ya a 20% off that you can use :) That's how I've fed my XS addiction thus far. Have yet to pay more than $14 for a set yet. With that said, I'm hoping to be as blown away or more with the Foxwoods. If they can do 5 months without dying or tarnishing badly then I'll be happy. XS average about 1 to 1.5 hours a day of play time, and they went 5 months before finally dying & not staying in tune. Elixr's went 4 months.
Jeremy, old video so not sure if you are still reading, but I just put a set of the foxwoods on my FG3. The good, my FG3 finally found some strings it likes and that made it sound good all over the whole fretboard. Really good actually. The negative, and Im not sure if it was just my set, or if they are all like these, but these took about a week of hard playing 2+ hours every day for them to settle down and to hold a tune well. I even tried to stretch them a bit it was so bad at first. Now that they have settled in they are probably the best strings I have ever had on this guitar. They are very, um, lively strings I guess is the best way I could put it. I love the feel of them. Not unstable/slick like the elixers Ive tried in the past. Not quite natural feeling either. A good blend between a natural and coated feel.
My only complaint with Stringjoy strings is that the wire wrap sometimes extends too far away from the ball-end of the string. Therefore, the stiff wrapped portion of the string often protrudes above the bridge and seems to decrease the break angle over the saddle. This occurs with my Martins and Taylors. I really like the availability of custom string gauges.
I just ordered a 6-pack of Foxwood's for Toronto delivery. Using D'Addario XS' now and look forward to trying Stringjoy's coated. Thanks for the tip, Jeremy!
I’ve been using Stringjoy Naturals on my Stonebridge G22CR and the Brights on my darker sounding Goodall and Morgan for the past couple of years. Love them and never any trouble. I’m about to give the Foxwoods a try.
Hey Jeremy…… one more thing that I almost forgot about asking you what do you think of Fender’s new release of 2022 o ok f the George Harrison rosewood telecaster, I had just recently seen it and thought I’d ask you and your opinion…..I think it looks pretty good but not exactly sure about how/what Fender is currently doing about their quality control , if I remember correctly weren’t they having some recent issues just recently in the past about quality control issues ?? Just wanted to see what you thought of the guitar I mentioned? Thanks Buddy !!
I've never liked the sound of coated strings and have used D'Addario for as long as I can remember. Buying in bulk saves a lot of money and it insures a pack of strings is readily available. But, you have me intrigued with Lovejoy's, coated strings, so I'll give them a shot when they are available.
Just ordered a couple sets of their coated strings. Will “review” them. I really like the John Pearse strings but you have to change them every couple weeks. Nine guitars , no can do. Hey, always good to help the Little guys in the business. Any recommendations for a coated electric string for Fender Tele?
I finally ordered some of these strings. I have tried many others since I have been building guitars for twenty years I'm excited to explore this possiblity Jonas guitars
I love Stringjoy due to you turning them on for me. Which Stringjoy strings are best for dreadnoughts and Jumbos, 80-20 or Phosphor Bronze? Thanks for your opinion.
Just put a set of foxwood phosphor bronze light (12's) strings on a new guitar. Love the tone but they seem to be extremely noisy and squeaky to me. I can't do slides anymore because when I initialize the slide there a horrible creak or squeak as my fingers break away. They just feel like there's too much initial friction and it's all string not the fretboard. Yes I can employ a complete lift all the time but these are so much more annoying and noisy than my Elixir strings which don't require me to be extra careful. I'm trying to see if they quiet down with more playing but an A to B test to Elixir nanoweb and especially polyweb strings tells me these coated strings are a bit more sticky and rougher sounding. I really wanted to love these strings but getting close to cutting my losses. Wondering if maybe I got a bad set or something.
Would you say that Stringjoy coated strings have a better lifespan than Elixirs or Paradigms? Can you compare the break resistance between Paradigms and the Foxwoods? I am using paradigms right now because I play hard and have broken a number of Elixirs. I'd love to try Stringjoy -- that's my only reservation.
Awesome that Stringjoy is going to make coated strings. Depending on the price, I’m sure they’ll sell extremely well. I hope they use a coating that’s similar to the coating Martin uses. Anyone got the scoop? I’m probably not going to pay $20 for a set of strings. That’s completely unreasonable to those of us who like to change our strings out fairly often.
Those Broadways are supposed to be all nickel. I played DR Blues Pure Nickels for a while. I Liked that when you put them on, they did not sound super bright like a new set of D'Addarios. They sounded great and seemed to retain the good tone longer than the strings I played my whole life which were too bright at first, mellowed to perfection then started to degrade. The problem was that fairly soon the DR Blues, on the wound strings, the windings would wear through at the frets. I would end up with these little sections of string winding that could potentials spin around the core if you weren't careful. Granted I haven't done any real gigging in 10 years or so, I don't feel the need to spend money keeping all of my guitars with fresh strings constantly. I loved that the tone was great, they felt great and seemed to hold on to that tone but the nickel is obviously a softer metal than steel. So, I am back to the multicolor ball end normal D'A XL's. Do the Broadways do this too?
I bought the Foxwoods to try. Honestly, I gotta say I'm not the biggest fan. On my Larrivee OM, they sound noticeably thinner than my usual Elixir Polywebs. A bit bummed because I was really looking forward to these. I'd give them a 5/10.
OK, a month in they definitely sound better now. I'm much happier than my initial impression. Still not entirely sure how to feel about them yet but so far so good. They've regained that fuller sound I was hoping for with a little bit of break in.
Great news. The coated will go on my D-12 Santa Cruz, with slothead. I can't imagine anything being better on my Martin M-36 than the Stringjoy phosphors. Now we need a true, dedicated acoustic Monel-nickel string.
@@JeremySheppard I tried a set of thicker electric nickels on my Taylor AD27e and they just didn't work, especially in terms of touch. Martin Retro 12s are still my choice there.
I put a set of regular acoustics on my Taylor 710 and I think they sound real clear and clean better than anything else I’ve tried. In clouding brands mentioned by others and Santa Cruz strings that I’ve used on my other guitars
I I’m interested but so so tired of marketing hype. I gig every week. I used Elixir and a few other BUT currently using XS D’Addario and l strum snd beat em up and the tuning stability and tone blows me away. It’s gotta be hard to beat the XS string 🤔
I got some Stringjoy lights based on your last review. I was not impressed because one set had a G string break between the nut and 1st fret while tuning the first time. Another set had a B string break on/ at the ball while tuning. One string broke in 2 sets of 4 sets bought. I hadn't broken a string in over 40 years, and 2 broke while changing strings? Not good, even if they sounded good. I emailed them and no response. Had some problems making the order. I have ordered some of the new coated strings. But if any more of them break putting them on, I won't try again.
That does not sound right at all... Stringjoy are pretty good with emails. I changed my mind about a set of custom strings and they were more than glad to amend the order with my request.
I had a somewhat similar experience. Custom ordered bass strings (no gauges terribly unusual). Put them on and they sounded great. I needed to make a slight neck adjustment so I had to slightly detune to remove the truss cover. When I tuned back up, *two* of the bass strings broke. I emailed and did get a response back, but it wasn’t a positive one. Essentially, they had never heard of this happening and I must have been doing something wrong. Um, no.
Thought I was the "Stringjoy"guy...!!!😁 10 packs sitting in front of me right now. Nothing better. Electric and acoustic.😉 The new Foxwoods are excellent. 1st time finding a coated string that actually sounds/feels great😎👍 Their "New" micro cloth is much better than the old one and the String Conditioner has replaced the GHS Fast Fret that was used for years...Great stuff. My finger fly across the fretboard. Smells better too😉👍 I AM the Stringjoy guy...!!!😂👍 😎👍❤🖖
Jeremy you turn me on stringjoy strings yrs ago :) I have P.W.Crump Irish 10 String Cittern & Nyberg Irish 10 String Cittern. I use too buy 2 set of guitar strings and throw out the G strings. I decided to order in Bulk with Stringjoy String in the long run its cheaper going bulk less for me. I bought a small waterpoof plastic tube/box & 40 gram Silica Gel Desiccant Drying Dehumidifier to keep my strings from getting funky. Yes Stringjoy is little pricey BUT they're made Nashville , TN USA just like Diamond Gusset Jeans 100% made in America.
Absolutely. I've definitely been compensated but not controlled. The electric strings are 10% better than factory options. The acoustics are nearly perfect
Hey Jeremy…… I’m so glad that you actually brought up the STRINGJOY brand, ever since the very first time I heard you mention them I have periodically checked in on the prices and yes I’m right there along with you in thinking that they are way more expensive than what I currently use…. And yes I am a huge huge buyer/fan of the Ernie Ball brand and have only ever used their strings and I have also tried many different options and currently I use the RPS 8 reinforced plain strings on my acoustic and they are custom gauge from 8,11,14,22,30,38 and prior to using those I used to use the same exact brand but in the RPS 9 ……..I’ve also used in the past the Earthwood 80/20 bronze and I really liked those but ended up moving to the RPS basically just to get the smaller gauge which as a beginner has always felt better and easier on my fingers….but anyways I’m glad that you decided to touch base on the topic of the STRINGJOY brand and how they are average about3 times the price of what I normally buy and use !!!! Thanks Buddy !!!
Ernie Ball for electric but absolutely not acoustic. They are terrible. Elixir, D’addario, Martin and although they dont last long John Pearse. Do we need anything else.
The video starts at 4:00 before that is this dude desperately telling you the company didn't pay him for this review and bragging about being recognized in airports so just skip ahead
I made a similar comment on Dylan Talks. I guess he’s also in the lineup to market this new string. I live close to Nashville l want them to be great but UA-cam marketing gets cringe at times and it’s just a bit too obvious
Meh. I will stick with D'addario or ernie balls. havent found a set of electric string worth 3 times the price of D'addario. My friend plays NYXL. A fool his money are soon parted. Coated strings sucks.
Just tried my first set of Stringjoys after finally succumbing to the relentless online marketing from this company. Stringjoy is a perfect example of marketing to idiots. These strings were absolute trash. If their strings were half as good as the marketing behind them they’d really have something. Rough feeling, left my fingers filthy, sounded bland. I guess all it takes is a bunch of UA-camrs giving glowing reviews and relentless Facebook ads and you too can market a mediocre product to the masses and have them believe it’s something special. These strings are laughably bad.
I moved to Stringjoy for my acoustics (from Elixir Nanowebs) because I play fingerstyle and my wound G string (F# - Open D) always got micro-frayed and died long before the rest. I like Stringjoys because they are uncoated.

Um, no.
@jjwunderlin5694 I think when I told them I had 50 years' experience, it might have influenced the response.
You have to compare to other balanced tension strings like Daddario XL
Been using stringjoy for a while now … my new favorite strings
Skip ahead to 14:00.
I tried some 45-105 bass strings and boy they suck so much.
Thought I was the "Stringjoy"guy...!!!😁
10 packs sitting in front of me right now. Nothing better. Electric and acoustic.😉
The new Foxwoods are excellent. 1st time finding a coated string that actually sounds/feels great😎👍
Their "New" micro cloth is much better than the old one and the String Conditioner has replaced the GHS Fast Fret that was used for years...Great stuff. My finger fly across the fretboard. Smells better too😉👍
I AM the Stringjoy guy...!!!😂👍
😎👍❤🖖
Jeremy you turn me on stringjoy strings yrs ago :) I have P.W.Crump Irish 10 String Cittern & Nyberg Irish 10 String Cittern. I use too buy 2 set of guitar strings and throw out the G strings. I was tired of wasting G strings & money. Plug with Stringjoy Strings I can customs string gauges to fix my needs. On my Nyberg Cittern 13 13 p 20 20 w 30 30 w 46 46w 56 56w.
If Stringjoy ever makes monel strings, I'll be thoroughly interested.
Just noticed that they now offer an 8-string baritone set. Oh happy day!
the only big bummer for me is that they dont carry flat wounds for bass yet
one day
I've heard rumors...
Too expensive for me. Washing and drying your hands before playing and wiping off the strings after reduce the need for coated strings, in my opinion.
I'd give them a run just because they are a couple guys with a hands on company.
How does hundreds of dollars worth of free strings not count as payment?
Absolutely. I've definitely been compensated but not controlled. The electric strings are 10% better than factory options. The acoustics are nearly perfect
I think they excell in longevity. They last for so so long
Brag a little bit why dontcha?
I had to laugh last week. I was watching one of your videos and you interrupted it with a Stringjoy commercial.
Yo dawg...I heard you like Jeremy the Guitar Hunter...so we're advertising JTGH during your JTGH...
@@JeremySheppard works for me. Much better than a poll for a disease that I don't have
@@JeremySheppard Also, I didn't know that you had control over which ads we see
Ernie Ball for electric but absolutely not acoustic. They are terrible. Elixir, D’addario, Martin and although they dont last long John Pearse. Do we need anything else.
The video starts at 4:00 before that is this dude desperately telling you the company didn't pay him for this review and bragging about being recognized in airports so just skip ahead
I've been saying the same thing for years
Good to see that fbi didn't get you after last live show 😂
Boo. Haha. That video got demonized because of that.
I made a similar comment on Dylan Talks. I guess he’s also in the lineup to market this new string. I live close to Nashville l want them to be great but UA-cam marketing gets cringe at times and it’s just a bit too obvious
Funny how all these "honest reviews " of Stringjoy all popped up at the same time :)
This video is pretty old. Good dudes. Good strings. I definitely have been compensated but I genuinely like them.
Jeremy is the new Beatles. Screaming girls chase him through the airport. :)
Except it's 47 year olds
@@JeremySheppard Ha! At least they are easy to out run. :)
I’m only concerned with tuning stability on tremolo equipped guitars, I don’t care about equal tension. This is my care about.
Imagine being the face of a brand's early days lol
Hexcore Shmexcore.
Stringsoy
I've got a $1500 guitar and a $1000 amp. Stringjoys just sound better. Its worth the extra $6.
How can this be an honost review if they are your friends and they are paying you??? Change the title dude
They're not paying me. StringJoys are good, not excellent and definitely not for everyone or every string change.
You talk way to much holy crap
Video hasn’t even started yet and I already know it ain’t honest.
C'mon. Don't be that jaded. This actually is my real opinion. .
You’re taking way too long to get to the point
Good strings. Nothing special as I can tell. Better than Ball but not Dadario or Martin.
I agree for the most part, the coated are definitely better.
I moved to Stringjoy for my acoustics (from Elixir Nanowebs) because I play fingerstyle and my wound G string (F# - Open D) always got micro-frayed and died long before the rest. I like Stringjoys because they are uncoated.
