Once, I regarded Nureyev as more of a showboat than masterful technician. Famous mostly because he defected spectacularly. I always compared him unfavorably with Mikhail Baryshnikov because of Baryshnikov's speed and the height of his jumps. I was wrong on all counts, making bad comparisons. The two were just different. Nureyev had an actor's mien, he knew how to play the role and his nimbleness is stunning. Yes, he did love the spotlight on and off the stage, but that's also part of his job, I guess. Practice and rehearsal were primary in his career. He never stopped working.

I thought this about him too. I was born in late '59. Perhaps if I had been a few years older and seen him in his prime I would have understood his greatness more. I saw him dance in the late 70's when he should have been retired. He was sloppy and effortful then. He should have stayed away from choreography as well, but I cannot fault his earlier greatness, charisma, and work ethic. Baryshnikov will always be the platinum standard for me, but Rudi was great in his own way, wonderful dance-actor.

Él también tenía grandes problemas psicológicos, debido a una infancia terrible rodeado de miseria, muerte y hambre. Además fue humillado y de ahí que surgió un ego y una personalidad fortísima. Tenía muchos complejos y no sabemos lo que le pasaba por su mente. Creo que pocas personas le comprendieron y Margot fue una de ellas. Las personas más cercanas a él le querian mucho, por algo sería. En fin, no creo que fuera tan fiera como le describen. Ese es mi manera de ver las cosas. Saludos,

Respecto a las mujeres, él siempre dijo que aprendió todo de las mujeres en materia de baile, y de hecho estaba rodeado de ellas. Lo que si tenía cierta aversión era hacia aquellas que le deseaban y querían tocarle etc etc y efectivamente, el levanto pasiones entre muchas y también entre hombres heterosexuales. Le perseguían, lo agobiaban, y eso le repelia.. Su hermana Lilia, de pequeña tuvo meningitis pero su madre tuvo que ir al médico con ella en brazos y los otros tres detrás de ella . Su marido como siempre, no estaba. Cuando llegaron al médico, le fue salvada la vida pero quedó sordomuda. Farida nunca se lo perdono pero Ahmed siempre la protegió y cuido porque se sentía culpable. En 1987, cuando Rudolf fue autorizado a volver a Rusia para ver a su madre, se encontró con Lilia medio paralizada, pues la había atropellado un coche y se había dado a la fuga. Y su madre, también paralizada por un derrame cerebral Lilia se caso con un sordomudo y tuvo creo que dos hijos. Lilia murió después de 1987, pero no se la fecha exacta.. Como ves todo una tragedia griega...
También te puedo comentar que había un matrimonio en Londres, muy amigos de Margot a los que le encomendó cuidar a Rudolf, Nigel y Maud Gosling. Ella fue bailarina y él criticó de arte y de ballet. Este matrimonio quiso a Rudolf como a un hijo. La pobre Maud sufrió muchísimo con la enfermedad de Rudolf y le cuido hasta su muerte. Ellos conocían muy bien a Rudolf. Rudi era encantador, pero la otra personalidad " Nureyev" es de la que más habla gente, su mala educación, que era pueblerino etc etc. Pero su auténtico yo, era Rudi, cariñoso, bromista, con gran sentido del humor, simpático, en fin, esa parte sólo la conocian sus amigos más íntimos. Hay un libro de Alexander Bland que escribió Nigel y habla de Nureyev. Murió de cáncer y cuando murió, Rudolf dijo que había sido para él más que un padre. En el libro también se habla de Margot.
