Carlo Obispo's debut feature travelled to more than 20 international film festivals and earned accolades and awards including Best Film in Lucas International Film Festival for Young Audiences in Frankfurt, Germany 2014 and the most coveted ASEAN Spirit Award in the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia 2015.
Born and raised in Purok 7 himself, Obispo takes us to the journey of Diana (Krystle Valentino) and her little brother (Miggs Cuaderno) as they go through life and childhood in a country farm village particularly called “Purok 7” (Zone 7) where they experience the familiar, delightful ride that is growing up, along with the challenges that they are forced to deal with despite their young age. For one, their father is living with another woman in the area, while their mother is working abroad. Set against a backdrop of laid-back living and copious optimism characteristic of country life, Purok 7 is an endearing tale of innocence and reality, and the wonderfully inescapable bonds of community.
Purok 7 is a finalist at the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, and a recipient of National Commission for Culture and the Arts - Ani ng Dangal Awards 2014.

Sa aking palagay, ang higit na nagdala sa pelikula ay ang mahusay na pagamit ng kulay, ilaw, anggulo at galaw ng kamera. Hanga ako sa mga komposisyon (leadng lines, framing, etc.). Ang bidang batang babae ay mahusay. Naniwala ako na siya si Diana. Gusto ko ang pagpili ng Cast. Mga napaka ordinaryo at simpleng mga mukha ng mga karakter -- Pinoy na pinoy! Kung meron man sigurong pwdng maimprove ay ang musika at tunog. NInanais ko sanang marinig ang hangin, ang kapaligiran at ang mga ordinaryong tunog sa paligid, mga tsismosang kapitbahay, mga tunog ng tricycle, mga kuliglig, at ang purong katahimikan -- maybe na-miss ko lang ang Tarlac at familiar ako sa ipinapakitang kapaligiran. I stumbled upon this and meant to watch just a couple of minutes to check what it's about. I ended up watching until the end credits.
The whole thing was beautifully crafted. Endearing, gut-wrenching, whimsical, and sophisticatedly written and executed.
Unbelievable talent. Everyone was totally committed with every scene. Which makes it even more amazing to see someone stand out. Krystle Valentino is a gem. She's a natural, a beauty, and a force all throughout the film. It's as if you're looking through a window, watching someone living her everyday life, like no camera is pointed at her. She was able to portray innocence, fragility, strength, depth, and humor flawlessly.

grabe tong movie na itu! tagos hanggang buto! medyo similar how my childhood was. Tulad ni Diana ako din yung panganay samin magkapatid. Hanggang ngayun parang walang na atang makakatibag saming magkapatid eh. Nakipagsapalaran yung nanay ko biglang OFW para sa maganda kinabukasan ng aming pamilya. Although naiwan kami sa tatay ko; hindi naging maganda yung relationship namin kc nagkaroon ng bisyo napabarkada, nangbabae. Pinagkaiba lang namin ni Diana ee sinusugod ko at inaaway ko tatay ko. HEHEHEHEH hanggang nagkaroon ng chance na nagbago sya kc pinapili namin sya. Fast forward to 16 years, napakaswerte ko. Tulad ng hardships at automatic maturity sa murang edad, masasabi ko ngayun kahit anong hirap at sakit ay kaya kong labanan kc nga "kargado na". Anyways, super thank for this movie. Alas tres ng madaling araw dito sa TORONTO muntanga ako dito umiiyak BUWAHAHAHAHAH super relate lang. to the cast/actors/director LAHAT na! SALAMAT sa napakawholesome na movie. literal iba ang ginuhit nito sa puso ko.
