But thank you Ortigas for making this and making it available in UA-cam." -Are you saying instead of writing a unique personal observation, everyone should just follow this template? So this was an adaptation of a book, not an original screenplay?! That explains my 2 comments above. That being the case, the writer and director should have made some effort to tie up loose ends in the story, instead of shaving it down our throat and praying that nobody notices. My gosh, if that is the attitude of Filipino filmmakers, we'll never get a nomination at the Oscars - ever! This reminded me of a Judy Ann Santos film that she tried very hard to get into the Oscars. I watched it and it blew my mind - in a negative way. The opening scenes alone wherein a man was speaking in Chinese sounded like a nursery student speaking Chinese for the first time. LoL! It was a pathetic film and a bigger waste of talent and production costs. Pls don't get me wrong; I grew up on Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal films.

Filipino acting is so obvious and not so genuine. You can barely find a very good actor. Stories are shallow as well - not well thought of. Hope you can all get better in making films and meet international quality. You get praises by upgrading your film equipments that may make a hollywood vibe, but really - the quality is poor. Too superficial. Actors cant really wear the character they play in.
@@gingerale9576 ahahahhahahahahah.... Are you lost? Was your comment meant for this film? Nonie and Cid? 2 of the best actors in PH? You are horribly empty...
Most of you were confused about the conversation Joanna and Gus had towards the end, but for me it’s the most exciting part. You wanna know why? Because it foreshadows the plot on how the next book would look like. And how do I know? Because wayback 2017, the entire team behind the movie, together with F. H. Batacan (author of the novel), visited Cebu City for a special screening and press conference, and they revealed that the movie adaptation will be tweaking the ending to give the audience a hint on the sequel that the author is working. And this, my friends, solidifies the idea that Father Gus is somehow the filipino counterpart of Robert Langdon. Ugh, can’t wait for the next book! And to those who keeps on comparing the movie from the original source material, you have every right to say so. But of course, please do understand that books and motion pictures are two different channels for storytelling. No hate, just love. ❤️
No hate, just love. But Robert Langdon is kinda amateurish. Probably, we could also consider Umberto Eco's William of Baskerville from the book Name of the Rose.
Sorry, but her original last lines: "the ratings will shoot through the roof," were better because they showed that at the end of the day, mass media was as amoral as the police. No disrespect meant to the author but her revisionism is as bad as George Lucas making Han shoot second. It derails the character.
I’ve read several excerpts of the personal backgrounds of real serial killers from FBI America. I can say that the main antagonist in this film was a sociopathic sadist, which means he was born normal, but the brutal nature of his environment had transformed him into a monster. Very different from psychopaths who are born that way. Many psychopathic killers grew up from well-off families, while most sociopaths grew up in poor, violent and abusive households. Great movie. Thank you so much TBA, for publicizing this film.
nahh, it actually needs more diagnosis and tests to prove which is which, and not just by bare observations and documented excerpts. we gotta take psychology as it is.
I stumbled upon a clip of this on Tiktok and I've decided to watch it here. This is a masterpiece. The story, the cinematography, the acting, a marvelous piece. I'm filled with a lot of questions. I've read and watched a lot, fictional or not, and I didn't even guess who was behind all of it until the answer is staring at my face. And even then, I still thought wrong. Amazing. Kudos! I'm now scrambling to find myself a copy of the book.

The movie showed friendship of a believer and a non believer without clashing. It shows a passage of trauma, uncovered kinds of corruption and cases of sexual abuse. Truly, misconduct is different from a mischief. I hope everyone takes a lesson from this.
Or sa MMFF? Damn aren't we all tired of trashy content na ang purpose ay kumita lng? This is a real masterpiece and this is where I want to spend my money; hindi sa mga viceganda films 🤮. Also, can't wait to read the book 🤗
because in reality, there are less filipinos who would see these kind of films compared to what is in commercial cinemas. the mainstream is always molded by what is wanted by most people.

I am blessed to be able to watch films like this. Everything was intrinsically studied and put into detail. Execution and unfolding of the story was superb. Not to mention how they did the corpses. I wish more films like this would be recognized and appreciated. I guess we're oh so done of the romantics and blands, we need more of what's real and relevant, may it be a grasp of the ugly and horrifying pictures of life. Something that could be an eyeopener, invoking what's needed to be invoked. These are gem stories waiting at the shadows of the alley to be seen and I am glad they are starting to be. I hope one day, when I get to create my own film, I'll be able to create such masterpieces as this. Sulong Indie! And thank you TBA for being an avenue of it!
@@meynardogenerale1455 Underrated in the sense na hindi sya madalas nabibigyan ng lead roles, at hindi kasing sikat ng mga tulad nina Christopher de Leon, Gabby Concepcion, etc.
there were major truths behind it like how many cases are still unsolved because of neglecting to gather data by our police forces, reluctance to pursue serial killers--which is more dangerous, and the erroneous image that people connected to Catholicism because it became common on 90s that priests were always involved if some orphans/children are missing. It's so good to read local novels translated into english and it made me wonder why it was not popular on the time were it was published. Lastly, I like the two protagonists, although they are simultaneously serving God and the people, they won't let prejudice compromise their passion to finish the misdeeds performed by immorality.
I never really had an appreciation for films until I stumbled across TBA Studios through the Luna, Goyo, and Bonifacio films and after looking through their other films, this one stood out the most and it amazed me. Everything from the atmosphere and the dialogue certainly struck me and surprised me, I questioned if this was even really a Filipino made film. And because of this film and their studios hard work, I have grown to appreciate Filipino cinema and the potential for it to reach greater heights. Thanks TBA studios.
I've read the original novella of SASC in one sitting back in college and it has been my go-to book whenever I want to read something exciting. I also had the privilege of discussing the book (together with my friend and classmate) way back 2012 for the Philippine Readercon. I've read the longer version in 2 days last year but for me I loved the novella more. Finally, after so long, I am very happy to finally see the film. There were differences of course, but nonetheless, the film is a masterpiece in itself. Thank you TBA! To all those who watched this BUT HAS NOT YET read the book, please, read it. It will give you a glimpse of Alex's perspective and feeling. SASC--either the novella or the extended version--is a good read. It's hard not to turn the next page and find out what'll happen next.

Thanks, TBA for uploading this. I find the film very well-made. Wala akong masabi sa cast, all-top talent (and by that I'm not saying na basta sikat lang). However, I wish it was more immersive for me. Thanks to Tiktok I found this movie. This movie deserves to be on the big screen. This is so under-rated. Kudos to the team and actors who made this. ❤️
I first watched this movie after reading the the book. At first i was kind of disappointed in a way coz i had so much expectations for it. But i know for certain how hard it is to really make a movie adaptation of a novel. People might say that the movie didn't give much justice to the book but of course we can't expect it to be exactly the same coz the book had so much details in it (which makes it so much better). And those details cannot always be portrayed exactly the way it is especially in a 2 hour movie. I've rewatched it, now that I've almost forgotten the details that were in the book. While watching it the second time around, it suddenly felt like a different movie apart from my initial expectation that ruined my first impression of it. I'd say for a movie, it's really great. It's so refreshing to see these great acting skills from great actors. They were all so natural and i loved it. 🙌

Thank you for making this available to everyone! I'm from Baguio and have not had the opportunity to watch this here; not even sure if this was shown in SM City Baguio. I've read the book and loved it, and I enjoyed this film adaptation, too. I don't see the point in comparing the two since they're two different media of art; whichever version a person prefers says more about a person's subjective preference than it does the quality of either the film or the book. I also think there is no such thing as a perfect adaptation of a book; filmmakers have their own creative influences, creative vision, and challenges (like limitations of film media) that affect the way a story is told. So, if you prefer the book and feel that the book is better than the movie, then that's not saying much by way of critique. Just my two cents.
Of course that's not how Alex died in the novel. His death is very complicated to be depicted in a movie. Everyone who has seen this must read the book to understand what really happened.
@@aaronjohnmana-ay646 as to how the plot is unfolded, yes. :)
Aaron John Mana-ay The answer is no, the book is way better.

(There's this movie review video that says the movie mostly uses English.) - The actors are all good. *Chefs kiss* most of the actors here are Veterans and not in the league of mainstream. That makes them too fitting to portray roles that reflects the different faces of society. The way they showcase the diverse and vivid characters were so good. - I like how the movie discussed different social issues that are still dominant these days. - I read a comment(from a movie review) that says the ending wasn't really clear. It's not enough we praise all these quality films after we watch for free. We must support these films by paying and watching these in theaters.
@@guitardedmaniac If we're talking about specifics, I was hyped for this film really. When the trailer was released I immediately look for schedules for screening but to my surprise they didn't have a theatrical run here in region 6 (correct me if I'm wrong).
@bluetooth philosopher: I like how this conversation is going. I’ll definitely add that book title to my to-read list. 👌
Sorry, but her original last lines: "the ratings will shoot through the roof," were better because they showed that at the end of the day, mass media was as amoral as the police. No disrespect meant to the author but her revisionism is as bad as George Lucas making Han shoot second. It derails the character.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Is there any news on the sequel?
I’ve read several excerpts of the personal backgrounds of real serial killers from FBI America. I can say that the main antagonist in this film was a sociopathic sadist, which means he was born normal, but the brutal nature of his environment had transformed him into a monster. Very different from psychopaths who are born that way. Many psychopathic killers grew up from well-off families, while most sociopaths grew up in poor, violent and abusive households. Great movie. Thank you so much TBA, for publicizing this film.
Yeah have met a sociopath..And its true..
nahh, it actually needs more diagnosis and tests to prove which is which, and not just by bare observations and documented excerpts. we gotta take psychology as it is.

Oo nga.
@@TBAStudios hindi ako nagsskip ng commercials thank you for quality films tba :)
@@adamc.2230 or maybe the capitalist media conditioned the people on what they want to watch. Kaya mababa ang critical thinking natin kasi hindi na mi-mainstream yung mga ganitong istorya--stories with social relevance, subtle in some sense, yet creatively presented.
@@janandrewmagluyan7084 it's give and take. The media wouldn't have the capability to influence if a lot of people will resist it. Just like how other movies that should be a series ended so abrubtly because there's not much interest in it. Besides, If these kind of films hit the mainstream, it will be bombarded by complains.
@@adamc.2230 yes yes! But I still hope that this will change and somebody will revolutionize our film industry, not just for itself but for the viewers as well. 💕
They tried (MMFF 2016) but... :( Hindi masyadong mabenta sa public. At the end, sa public parin sila nakadepende :(
Good job TBA!
Nonie Buencamino is such an under-rated actor. I remember his acting role of Elias in Jose Rizal 1998. Napakatalinghaga na aktor.
How can you say that he's underrated? He's not 😁
there were major truths behind it like how many cases are still unsolved because of neglecting to gather data by our police forces, reluctance to pursue serial killers--which is more dangerous, and the erroneous image that people connected to Catholicism because it became common on 90s that priests were always involved if some orphans/children are missing.
I love how this film starts with a question then ended up with another question.

Bought the books years back because it was a bestseller but never had the chance to read it and passed it on to my lola who loves whodunits. Glad, I watched it for free. Didn’t skip an ad to help. Flaws and all, it massively deserves to be on the trending list!
Thanks, TBA for uploading this. I find the film very well-made. Wala akong masabi sa cast, all-top talent (and by that I'm not saying na basta sikat lang). However, I wish it was more immersive for me. Still, hats off to everyone behind this film, and please keep on making quality entertainment!

They were all so natural and i loved it.

kaya lang naman napag iwanan ang pelikulang pinoy dahil sa laki ng tax on films before.
we owe it to Bong Revilla kaya nabuhay ang sine pinoy.
dahil sa kanya, bumaba na tax, and directors and producers can now dare to make films and sell them.
before nasali lang pinoy film makers sa international film contests.
incentives ang dahilan.

Sir sorry to ask... :)
@@aaronjohnmana-ay646 as to how the plot is unfolded, yes. :)

Aaron John Mana-ay The answer is no, the book is way better.
Sorry to sound like a murderer here pero kasi may ritual sya to kill boys and a total of eight parang ung total ng classmate nyang na molested nung teacher.
I am a huge fan of the book, and now I am happy to watch the movie as well.
Although there were some changes made in the film, still, it is magnificent!
Also, can anyone please tell me where was the movie shot, especially Alex's apartment and the NBI building?
Loved the book and also the movie! You never ceased to impress me! More power and sana mas marami pang obra ang magawa in the future!

-I think the book was written in English and was from a publishing house located in New York. That might explain why they mostly use English. (There's this movie review video that says the movie mostly uses English.)
- The actors are all good.
But , personally, I think the movie is complete as it is.
Please, create tons of movies like these. 😍
