    I'm 58 and no longer train with "balls to the wall"intensity. When training I aim to achieve the following. :
    1. RIR : of 0-2. ALWAYS.
    2. Rep range of 6-12.
    3. Sets of 4-6 in number depending on the muscle or body part being exercised .
    4. Once I can do four sets of 12 repetitions of a particular weight I then increase the weight.
    5. I also give my joints, tensions and ligaments time to adjust to a new weight before further increases.

    My routine is keeping the wieght at around 70-75 percent max, perform 8-10 reps (sometimes higher) then rest for 30-45 seconds and do another set. I usually stick 9-12 work sets. Since I’m an older bodybuilder at 61 with plenty of injuries from the gym and 25 plus years in the military, I increase my intensity by feeling the muscle contraction, shorts rests and sometimes employ supersets or drop sets. I’m more like a medium volume trainer like Lee labrada. This system works for me and I really enjoy it. Also I take a rest day after my workout day or workout two days and rest the third day. If I work three days in a row I do feel overtrained and tired.

    I did low volume hit for almost a year, was Hoping it would work for me. Going to failure and beyond, I needed a week sometimes to recover. Switched to a four day split, doing 6-8 hard sets per body part, every other day, and seeing good gains. At 56 I need more recovery.

    I see a lot of young guys following body building workouts with immense volume without realizing that the guy doing the workout is enhanced and working out is their primary job. I am a big proponent of progressive overload and to achieve this you have to have intensity in your workouts. In my experience Less volume but more often works best.

    I think when most people mention a high intensity vs high volume workout its not so much about how many reps you do in 1 set but about having less total sets per muscle group while taking all the sets you do near failure with a moderate amount of reps. Great video tho

    Which is better steady state cardio or hit cardio ? It's the same type question, both improve your cardiovascular system and help with fat loss, so it depends what suits you or prefer 🤷‍♂️

    • @WalkerFitMuscle
      @WalkerFitMuscle  Рік тому +1

      Hi Brian! Thank you for your question. I always recommend both throughout the week if possible.
      Most everyone can do LISS cardio, which is great for cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory health.
      High Intensity is best for helping burn more calories which will lead to more fat loss. The key is to stay active and do what fits best with your unique circumstances.
