With those rods at 4:05 connecting the cars together, this system will only work if the distance between floors 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 are EXACTLY the same!
I have used this elevator and seen this so many times, that i had no idea it was unusual!!
One of the more interesting elevators of the MARTA rail system to say the least.

This was done to save on space and force people to get off on the mezzanine to pay before going down to the station level. The only other option would have been to have two separate elevators in their own shafts.
@@force311999 I would imagine that emergency responders' (fire/police) keys would allow both doors to open on the platform level. Never seen it happen myself.
This is actually a good solution to save space, electricity, and money. Except employees can’t get directly to bottom level. I’m pretty sure you can open both doors on concourse with a service key.
To be fair, two elevators would have been less confusing for rescue operations, easier to maintain and would accommodate double the traffic. Looks like a win-win to me.
On the other hand, it would have been half as interesting lol
The sound at 4:14 is epic
Surprisingly, just 6 blocks away is a TK Twin! Atlanta and its amazing elevators... 🤣
Elevators of 14S what building?
@@adamb6271 CODA, but in order to access anything, you have to get permission ahead of time.
I wonder how many people thought that the elevator was broken when they pressed the call button and the door didn't open immediately because the "correct" cabin was on an other level.
Can't help but wonder how many people have come to this elevator on 2, pressed, the call button, then saw the elevator leaving where they could think something like "Why is the elevator leaving? It's supposed to open!" only to see the other car come after it and then they think "This is strange."
It is a very interesting set up
now that's a really strange but epic setup!
1:29 i think those “Low on Fluid/Oil noises” you and Aron were hearing was (from my knowledge) maybe the reverberations on the system connecting the cab’s, or it WAS “Low on Fluid/Oil noises”.
1:30 this is the BEST hydraulic motor sound i have ever heard in my entire life.
It is epic.
@@DieselDucy sure is
That’s really really awesome! I have to find a double decker one day.
Noooo i forgot to film this while i was on vacation. Dang it. Awesome and rare find.
A double-decker hydraulic...now that's strange. Westinghouse was the first company to make double-decker elevators, and such elevators are typically only found in buildings with more than twenty floors. However, the Kress Energy Center in downtown Wichita has double-decker Westinghouse traction elevators and it's only a ten-storey.
douro20 interesting, I thought Otis invented it which was used in the Empire State Building (and I am curious about how manually controlled double decker would work)
Wow! I never knew about that one! Never bothered to get off at Civic Center...
That shocked me alot but that's a cool elevator
Same
This would be a cool synced, side by side video, with each persons POV.
Epic motor
This kind of has a similar twist to the double decker buses you normally see videos of from london or whatever but exept with an elevator instead of a bus
Very rare especially for a subway station
Very unusual, but also a very elegant solution given the unusual layout of this station.
Interesting elevator with an epic F-sharp pitched motor!
Normally double decker elevators would have a destination dispatch style system connected to them but Ive never seen either of these designs before
It is crazy.
Great motor!
F sharp pitch.
double decker elevators are very cool
Very interesting find Andrew.
Way to go Andrew!
I never seen this elevator before
Interesting setup!
I saw a video of an elevator in the CTA system that serves both the paid and unpaid areas like this one, but it has two cabs back to back.
Wow imagine how much is in the logic Im not sure if its relay controlled but if it was it would probably need a ton of extra relays to make sure the correct doors open at the correct side
Would be interesting.
It is very interesting for a double-decker elevator to exist.
That's what I call a Money & Space saving Elevator
This could possibly be one of the only double deck elevators in North America that's not only a single elevator but also not in a high-rise building. This is definitely something different though since you have to go on the other side to access the other floor. Also I notice it doesn't have an indicator light that indicates the other deck is being served, but I guess it doesn't matter since it's not one of those setups.
I remember when I was a kid in elementary school, I drew a city and on one of the buildings, I drew an outside glass elevator and that was a double-decker and in then I drew a stick figure person climbing up the ladder to the second deck. That was about 1976.
My first discovery of an actual double decker elevator was in Denver Colorado in 1990. Of all the places to discover a double-decker elevator, a small City like Denver Colorado at that time? Not San francisco, not Lost Angeles not even in Boston! Now if only when I was a kid I somehow was able to publish that.....
That is awesome
3:04 What is that beeping noise?
DO ONE AT THE MARTA ARTS CENTER STATION IT IS OLD
This is so unusual because normally double deck elevators need destination dispatch equipment on them but those are not very common around the US
This was rare.
that's the first time seen that too!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am Japanese.
There is an elevator similar to this, but I saw this type for the first time.
Awesome EPIC MOTOR
Wow! just wow!
That's really clever!
Nice video!
Do they both have to run at the same time. For example, if the top deck is on 3, and the bottom deck is on 2. Can the bottom deck go down to 1 without the top deck coming down to 2?
The two cars in each shaft operate as single units. At about 4:00 you can see how the elevators are joined by steel rods.
never seen this elevator. i think this is rare.
will it open the other door in fire sevice
Now that's something!
Now that’s a cool
one
INSANE!!!!!!!!!
It was crazy.
It's not that strange. It's actually ingenious. Instead of having two separate elevators, shafts and equipment, just stack two elevators top car from street to fare control area and the bottom car from fare control area to platform.
It was very smart.
I noticed you call them elevator cars, we call them cabs in Canada
cars and cabs are used interchangeably in the United States
I'm gonna ride this thing on 9/11/September 11th!!
This is AMAZING!
Then make it on Roblox
I seriously hope it has a mechanism to prevent someone from sliding the door open from the inside the car
(im not sure about elevators in the US, but where i live, quite often it is possible to slide the door open from within the car, all i will say though is do NOT try this while the elevator is in motion, as there is a small chance it may go out of service)
Weird but cool!
Is That for IFE Elevator
EPIC MOTOR!!!!
1:29 *_RAAWR, RAAAAAAAAWR_*
1:38 *_RRRAAAAAAWWWRRR [METAL SCRAPE NOISE]_*
such metal scraping is interesting.
Is this a double deck lift to segregate people beyond the ticket barriers and people not beyond the ticket barriers? Also is this a hydraulic double deck lift, as that would be very rare. I would love to see between the 2 lift cars.
Yep it is a double decker hydro lift. The way they have it set up, the upper deck serves the middle level and the upper and the lower deck serves the middle and lower levels. the lower level is for ticked passengers. Also the door set up is to where only ticketed passengers can exit on the side past the fare gate.
Oh, look! Isn't that Beno the UA-camr that goes around tampering with everyone's lifts on video without prior consent (among other questionable activities)? 🤭
Welcome!
Do they run on 1 motor?
Adam B Yes
So, the Lower deck serves 1 and 2, and the upper deck serves 2 and 3?
Yes. The lower deck connects the underpass between platforms (allowing a way to change platforms without leaving the station) and the platforms. The upper deck connects the outside-fare-control lobby and street levels.
Very interesting, 2 is better than 1
What year
that is cool
Lower deck is serves 1 and 2, and the upper deck is serves 2 and 3.
Yes.
It would be interesting to surf in between the two cars.
It would most definitely not.
Dear DieselDucy,
If we don't give the command to the elevator does it goes 1 floor down??
If I recall correctly, both 'sets' of elevators in that station will park in the lower position when not in use.
Fire service on these must be a total disaster.
Top Hound also, I bet that both doors will open on concourse level on independent of fire service
But you still would need to walk out and wait for it to change deck
The motor pitch is F Sharp/G-Flat. Or just F Sharp IDK
Okay
What's Aaron's channel called?
HOW!?!?!??!!?
This is a double decker elevator which is hydraulic.
Yes very uncommon.
An upper and a lower decker.
UPDATE: This elevator got modernized
What ? What buttons now

Rare
The elevator is so old.
Wow.
Interesting
There’s a weird elevator that you rode Andrew.
1:52 Vancouver #SeaBus and driverless #SkyTrain has the same type of fare gates from Cubic Transportation Systems (E2 Gate: web.archive.org/web/20180114052833/www.cubic.com/Portals/0/Publications/E2_Gate_A4.pdf ) and the smart card equivalent to the card you tapped at the gate, in Vancouver, it's called Compass. IMO it's slow (gate passage is 33 ppl/min and card reader only supports ISO 14443 and Cubic's proprietary GO CARD; tap time around 300-500 ms (500 ms for credit cards; 200-300 ms for #CompassCard which uses MIFARE DESFire EV1) which is too slow and increases chances of longer lineups; card reader (Reader - Tri-Reader 3: fccid.io/LVCTR03/User-Manual/User-manual-1048786 ) doesn't support Sony #FeliCa for 100 ms (aka 0.1 s) tap time, ISO 18092, Calypso for
how do you ride that to enter or leave?
The lower deck exists as a way to access the underpass for moving between platforms while inside the faregates. The upper deck is outside fare control and connects to the street level above the station.
The only practical way I could imagine that idea would be to relocate the fare gates and ticketing kiosks to street level (thus keeping the entire elevator shaft inside fare control) However given the rather limited available space at street level, that's not really an option.
force311999 then people can defeat the system by only scanning one card and having a bunch of people getting free rides.
❤🥰😘😍 EIevator
Thanks
I'm watchin, but nothin' is happening. LOL :P
1 X. If you’re yy
Low on oil
That is definitely the “Supafreak” of the Elevator world 🙀
😱
Yep
Only In Ohio If You see This States
Dobbe deck elevator
Yep.
Odd for just 3 floors.
As demonstrated, this setup tries to prevent fare evasion, since one cab only opens up inside fare control, while the other only opens up outside fare control. Yet for space reasons, a single shaft is used.
It needs oil!!!
She's low on oil!
yep!
...
door disease lol
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Yep
That is the most useless concept ever but it’s cool
