Wow. When she played it at the end, it sounded exactly like the marimbas that play on the street in my hometown in Mexico. It took me back to my childhood.
interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for how do i build a marimba try Corbandy Simple Instrument Crusher (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my co-worker got amazing success with it.
I know you're a very proud Father, especially when your daughter Taps you out a song on an instrument you made for her...that's just fantastic..fantastic I tell ya!!!
I'm a music teacher and a woodworker, and I absolutely love projects like this. I'm not nuts about the buzzers, but tone is subjective so who cares? Fantastic work, love your channel!
Hey! Professional classical cellist here. It makes my heart so full to see her playing that marimba and having such a good time. I hope she keeps playing to her heart's content for as long as she wants to play. Women who play percussion are a force of nature. I hope that if your little one decides to pursue music and that's what makes her happy, she finds that same power and strength that gets so many musicians out of bed in the morning. She's got promise.
Thanks very much! She still really enjoys playing the marimba and is part of the school marimba band. They are an awesome band with a fantastic teacher and get to play a lot of events around the area with quite large audiences :)
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to learn about try Jaffacter Instrument Builder Coach (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my brother in law got cool results with it.
Thanks for making this. I have seen and heard a local marimba band at a few outdoor fests in recent years. I noted the buzzing of their marimbas and knew there had to be an add-on such as you demonstrated, a loose diaphragm element similar to that used in kazoos. Thank you for solving this mystery for me.
I think there was 2 stars in this video. Well done again Neil you make these projects look so easy. I really enjoyed watching this and love your daughters flair. The rain has been annoying this week hasnt it......... looking forward to your next one, thanks mate.
I do too. I used to do some trim carpentry years ago and the long time cabinet maker taught me that trick. If you just flex the blade a little, it takes of about 1/16" of an inch. If you make it flex a lot, it is closer to 1/8". (Not sure in metric) It is handy!
hey ,if anyone else trying to find out how do i build a marimba try Corbandy Simple Instrument Crusher ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 got great success with it.
Thanks Ben! The buzzer certainly does produce a different sound - my daughter wants me to build her one now but we haven't the space for a second marimba. :)
It would be perfect if you could swap between the box and the pipes with the same marimba :D And by the way, doesn't the buzzer "detune" (I don't know if that's a word) the pipe by changing the size of the hollow space ?
I could pull the box out of the one we have and replace it with pipes but I'm not sure when I would get around to that. It's a good question on the buzzers - after checking they didn't seem to affect the tuning of the pipes but the bottle caps really don't go in very far (they are fairly flush with the inside of the pipe.
She is a little star! She got home from school, played that for me then raced off for acting class in the space of a few minutes - it was a bit rushed but she did great! :D
At 1:57, what are you spreading on the boards you just cut? Thanks! At 5:00, looks like you're adding a kazoo effect. When you cross drill the pipe, and insert the buzzer assembly, the pipe's volume changes. Have you tuned a pipe assembly, then added the buzzer, then tested the tuning and found the tuning changed much? Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Greg! At 1:57 I'm putting a coat of water based polyurethane but anything could be used. Yes I tested the pipes after adding the buzzers and it seemed to make little to no difference - the buzzer doesn't go in very far, it's actually fairly flush with the inside of the pipe. :)
Lucky little one 🥰. Unfortunately I chose the guitare so it was a little harder for my dad to build 😜. Love all your videos. You are an inspiring personne that really gives UA-cam a reason to exist!!! Thanx for all your work that gives me new ideas each time 🤘🙏👍
Note sure about adding buzzers, but then i removed them from my Kalimba, so i guess it's just not my type of sound. I would be curious to here the sound of the pipe marimba without them
Great build and great to see your number 1 tester hard at work. I did wince a bit at one point though - I know you were only using a pin nailer, but when shooting the holders into the end of the frame, your bits were right behind in the firing line. Not much chance of shoot through I suppose, but still made me cross my legs - not sure I would want to do that with a bigger nailer! :-) Anyway great video!
I have no experience with making marimbas but I am a percussionist and I do know that traditional African marimbas(which have much less keys and have dried gourds as resonators) use beeswax to make the buzzing sound. from what I remember they just put a dab(coin sized) on the bottom of the resonator(gourd.) Might be worth a try! Either way, sounds great and I always enjoy your videos!
The beeswax is the equivalent of his "glue tack", which holds the membrane. In Africa, they use things like spiders' eggs membranes, pig intestine skin, ox stomach lining, etc. for the membrane.
Although I was very impressed with your previous model to me this is more recognisable as a Marimba. What’s next, a full five octave Marimba or a vibraphone? I think the latter would be more challenging so you must go for that one. Your daughter (?) is brilliant, I wouldn’t even be able to see the notes that quickly never mind play them! Another great video.

Can she play the scrapwood challenge intro song on the marimba? 😊
Felicidades, lo haces ver fácil. Acá en Colombia este instrumento lo llaman Marimba. Es de la cultura del pacifico Colombiano, y la hacen con Guadua muy parecida, o de la familia del Bambú Chino.
Both of your skills have improved. What a terrific project. Here is something for her to shoot for: March for Koala by Yoko Kanno. Look it up here on UA-cam.
Unfortunately, the link doesn't appear to work anymore and the book seems to be OOP as well. I tried Amazon and eBay looking for the book but no luck. :-(
Brilliant build and what an awesome player too....makes me sick when I can't even play 4 notes in a piece but here's a young lady who does it like it's a normal thing to do....kids hey! LOL 😉👍🏼😊
I'd say the hand-made flat endcaps are superior to pvc pipe caps but you can also "tune" the tubes finely by putting sand down in the end of the pipe so ~shrug~.
Wow. When she played it at the end, it sounded exactly like the marimbas that play on the street in my hometown in Mexico. It took me back to my childhood.
Bravo on your little ones performance as well as the marimba build.
Thank you Donnie! :)

Absolutely! Thank you - glad you enjoyed it! :)
Your daughter is quite the talent! God bless your family
The best part of these marimba videos has been the solo at the end. Thanks for the vids.
Glad you like them! :)

THE MARIMBA LOOKS LIKE FUN TO LEARN AND PLAY
Thanks for making this. I have seen and heard a local marimba band at a few outdoor fests in recent years. Thank you very much Max - glad you enjoyed it mate! :)
Your little star is really good at playing that marimba. I'm going through loads of your old video's and came across this and it's brilliant 🙂👍👍👍👍
What a talented family, those marimbas turned out awesome and your daughter played it very well, congrats.. thumbs up and a new subscriber
Thank you Joshua! :)
Holy heck. That blade flex technique! Such a brilliantly simple idea. Why have I never seen that before.
I find I use that one a lot, probably a few times a week. :)
Pask Makes I need that a few times a week. Instead I fiddle with trying to bump the stock!
Chevee Dodd totally agree. I try the touch the blade then tap with scrap wood but it always seems to be too much. I'm trying this way next.
I do too. I used to do some trim carpentry years ago and the long time cabinet maker taught me that trick. If you just flex the blade a little, it takes of about 1/16" of an inch. If you make it flex a lot, it is closer to 1/8". (Not sure in metric) It is handy!

Super superduper star at the end.
That was AWESOME. What a great father!!!!
Both performances were outstanding 👏
love to see people with passion for work...thumbs up sir and nice play for the small lady...hahaha...
Fantastic Sound! What an adorable bundle of talent and joy you both acheive together!
Wow the buzzer makes the sound so special ! And only with a bottle cap and some grocery bag discs :')
I love it !
Thanks Ben! The buzzer certainly does produce a different sound - my daughter wants me to build her one now but we haven't the space for a second marimba. :)

Then throw out the sofa. You gotta do what the women want.
Thank you for sharing these videos with us. I enjoyed both. Well done for promoting homemade music.

Fantastic Project. Thanks for posting.
I love the recital.

My daughters enjoy this video too! Well done both!
The little buzzers are really cool!!!😊 and most importantly, you little is awesome at playing it!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊😊👊👊cheers mate!!
She is a little star! She got home from school, played that for me then raced off for acting class in the space of a few minutes - it was a bit rushed but she did great! :D
Pask Makes she definitely did!!😊😊and acting class too! She must take after her ol' man :D have an awesome day my friend!!!
she is definitely a superstar and that marimba sounds fab

Neatly done, awesome end result! Great work mate.
Awesome, sounds amazing
Thank you! :)
This is great, has been on my wish list to build for a while, so thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks mate - you should definitely give it a go! :)
Super-cute. She is so much cuter than any book, but thanks for the book info and for keeping copyright. Great job girl!
You have a wonderful daughter, congratulations.
I'd love to see you make a full chromatic marimba!
Nice project thanks. Maravillosa interpretacion de la talentosa niña !
Wow! It sounds Great!
Thanks mate! :)
Such a fun little project. Your little Superstar was amazing, so inspiring
Thank you very much! :)
She did great! That's so cool! Good job on this.
Thank you very much Bruce! :)
The young lady has a very relaxed wrist while playing. Excellent. Sounds great, too.
great performance!
So awesome!
Your little Superstar did an excellent job of showing off your handiwork.
Thank you Tom! :)

Nice. And your daughter is adorable. 😁
Great project and great performance!

Fantastic!

I would remove the buzzers too. Also make some shorter (temporary) legs so its easier for her at her height.
Congrats to you and your little superstar! This was great!
Thank you Cedric - glad you enjoyed it! :)
Superstar played extremely well.
멋진 아빠시네요~
마지막 연주도 좋아요~~
encore une fois super travail.
Merci Aldo! :)
What can't you do; incredible. Always a pleasure watching...cheers...rr
Thank you very much Richard - glad you enjoyed it! :)
your daughter sure is learning fast ! ^^
Hello, great video. Ther's a dead link in the description. Could you please fix that? I would love to purchase the book with the plan. Best...
Wow nice will build one !!!
Very good little superstar
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing !
This is amazing, I'm so inspired. Thank you!

Thank you! I didn't even think about that but it probably does look a little scary! ;)
Excellent mate.

Love it!! Is there a way to make a similar instrument in miniaturized form?

Thanks Marc! You're right I can't play anything either and the kids make it look so easy! :)
Life's a bummer isn't it mate! LOL 😉😊
Tis is just great. Got to get that book. Rg. Júlíus
Thanks Julius! :)
very cool!
Thanks Matt! :)
Love it thank you so much 😊
Can you sell me one? At least the tuned pipes and hard wood. My 4 year old son loves this!
Love it, a mate just put me onto your channel. big thumbs up
Hey Pask please let me know what are you using to remove the black writing on the pvc pipe
At 4:20, it takes real strength not to throw something at a plover going off its head
Hi sir! What app do you use for tuning the resonator? Tnx
❤️
I'd say the hand-made flat endcaps are superior to pvc pipe caps but you can also "tune" the tubes finely by putting sand down in the end of the pipe so ~shrug~.
👍👏
Great, now not only you make me feel uncomfortable with my building skills, but your daughter makes me uncomfortable with my music ones.
what did you use to mark that bag at 4:35?
Pica dry marker! :)
@@PaskMakes thank you I appreciate it
