  • I am the proud owner of this bike since April 2022.
    This is my honest review after riding it in all conditions for 10.000+ km.
    The bike is a Yamaha Tracer 9 GT 2022 model with the CP3 890cm3 engine, putting out 119 PS and 93 Nm or 68 lb-ft of torque @ 7000 RPM.
    ------
    It's equipped with the Leo Vince full exhaust system, adding a further 6 PS to the engine's output, and of course a brilliant sound and look.
    ------
    I am Alexandru, from Brasov, Romania, and I've been riding motorcycles for the last 10 years.
    ------
    The road is from Rucar to Moeciu de Jos, in Romania.

    Great video and review Alex and what a marvellous playground you have there. Owning the Tracer 9 GT myself you have perfectly summed up the pro's and cons of the bike, exactly the same minor niggles as myself. Overall, I absolutely love the bike and it does inspire so much confidence. Thanks for the review.

    I too watched videos on the tracer 900 and found a 2018 with 15k kms on it for a decent price. I have mine set up for light adv riding and moto camping. My previous bikes are a Versys 650 and a street legal Honda crf450x. I love the tracer.

      Do you like offroading with it? I find the suspension too hard even for smooth gravel roads. But I'm coming from the Tenere, which was my previous bike before the Tracer

      @@thetinkerer136 my tracer 900 is jacked up to max preload, I am 290lbs so I try not to hit potholes in dirt roads but I did take it up the South and North Canol Roads in the Yukon. I have been to the Keno Signpost, I don't single track offroad, but love mining roads. Karoo Street tires work great. I raised the front fender and use a 130/80 tire up front. It makes the feel solid. I am making my own adv trailer to pull behind the tracer, fasten via the hollow rear axle so I can tow gear instead of pack it. Should be alot easier on the suspension than my previous trips. I did a 4000km ride through Alaska and I did pussy out of a few rocky back roads and took the highway around but comming from a crotch rocket, this bike is quite capable off pavement. Of course I have a radiator guard and case guards, a little skid plate under there too helps.

    Good review, I got mine in April 2022 , due to having two bikes I have only put 900 miles on mine. Where I am gutted is the new Tracer GT + coming out this year and I would of preferred this as the spilt screens are hard to read. The new adaptive cruise control is very good and would of been useful. I wish I had waited for the + to come out. Fantastic roads though Alex !!!

    • @dougiequick1
      @dougiequick1 Рік тому

      Re the adaptive cruise. I wonder if that will work when followning a MOTORCYLE in the twisties? Because I ride with partner who always leads as he knows all the roads. We ride for several hours in a day so it might be rather nice (if it worked?) to set my bike on faster speed than our pace and just let the adaptive cruise handle throttle and slowing? Somehow I doubt it will work and therefore will be of very little use to me as I dont commute or very much ride in traffic. We DO have the same feature on our Mazda CX5 and it has been wonderful as my wife does hundreds of freeway miles a week and just loves the feature to the fullest! That only leaves the improved dash which frankly is not a reason to think about upgrading ....oh but there IS one remaining improvement which is linked brakes which if they are everything they really could be (which again I have my doubts) COULD be a wonderful safety feature! IF the bikes computer truly maximizes ideal front with rear brake no matter whether the pedal is stomped or the lever is yanked? THAT could be a life saver in a total panic situation ya know? I mean how many of us truly posess the skill to apply maximum front and rear braking? Or even not in panic mode but just performance riding in the twisties trying to distribute braking perfectly for each turn etc? BTW for a new rider or an unskilled rider? This could be a game changer! kudos to Yamaha for working to make bikes more and more idiot proof....not that we all shouldnt be learning to control our motorcycles without these aids but the learning curve on fast bikes has to be quick lest one does not make it far in their riding career! BTW Yamaha is also working hard on a combo electric power steering and steering damper which sounds weird but I have a feeling it could become a MAJOR improvement if it works as they hope it will! Bikes could be engineered to be ultra stable without sacrificing flicability for instance! and as a steering damper? Having the ecu and IMU providing data for EXACTLY when and how much to dampen the steering? COULD render tank slappers and the potentially fatal RESULTS of such a total thing of the past virtually ELIMINATED! I believe it ALSO could open the doors to motorcycles being shod with RIDICULOUSLY wide massive tires compared with today both fron and rear without the penalties of being insanely hard to steer! Can you imagine the potential CONTACT PATCH??? "losing" the front or rear could also become a thing of the past! At least if there is not oil or sand/gravel involved....but even with some sand or gravel more rubber contact could still make a huge difference? Time will tell! Exciting things on the horizon! Just when you thought motorcycles cant get any better?

    Hello Alex, Concerning the comfort of the seat you can actually change the materiel inside of it. Some companies are specialized in re working these seats and adding "gel like substance" to make the seat more medical/comfortable. In my country this modification costs around 150 euros and is totally worth it. You can even add an imprint on it if you wish. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion on this great bike. I hope to get the GT+ if not a GT would be great as well in grey however.

    hi...
    great Video, lovely area...
    I ride my black/silver-9GT (I call it "piece of jewelry") since August '21... so it was one of the first to able to buy in Germany.
    Up to now I ride it over 13500 km (incl. cold weather and raining). I love my "Schmuckstück".
    The engine is phenomenal, the gearbox is great. In "Mode 1" I guess the hitch works better than in other modes. Sometimes, when I'm using the Quicksfigter from the 1. into the 2. gear, the change ist very hard. Up to 40/50 km/h the gear changing works smoother (1 to 2)... By the rest... up and down... lovely... I don't want to miss ist.
    Fuel: My 9GT need in normal case 5l/100 km. When I drive a little bit faster... more 🙂
    The Seats: from the beginning I sit on "comfort" ... absolute perfect.
    The exaust: I use the standard. in the lower speed the sound is great. in the higher speed the engine and the exhaust sounds like a jet-turbine 🙂
    The technical featerures: It's very deficult. I bought my bike straight from the factory...and it was my first bike since many years. The features are state of the art. up to now: all is normal for me.
    One question: >13,5 tkm: I guess I need to change my tires. One told me "not necessary"... one other "dear... directly" ... What is the best decision... what are best criteria (1. profile depth ..ok) and than?
    Greetings from Germany
    Guido 🙂

I wanted the new one because I absolutely dislike the dual TFTs lol. Hopefully I will have mine by May, the local dealer here in my small town, doesn't have any stock and most I have seen for sale are red. That said, I have not seen Tracers in my neck of the woods, so I might be the only one here with one.

      Indeed, the single TFT looks good, but the split ones have their charms also. Combine them with a quadlock with your phone between the 2 screens and it's arguably better than a single screen.

    In NH, the out the door price is $14,400 for a 2022. I think at that price point, including the bags and it's features your getting is a good value. There are a lot of competitors. in this class. I think the number one competitor is the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. Which is a great motorcycle as well. The GT PRO is near the$17, 500 price point. I was leaning towards the Tiger, but what swayed me towards the Yamaha is the engine, and the OEM bags that come standard. The engine is putting out 115 HP. The 900 cc class is perfect. I checked out the Tiger 1200, GS 1200, African Twin and also the Suzuki GSX1000 GT Plus. I found the 1200 cc adventure style bikes with the steel cases are extremely difficult to get on and off. The size and height for them is too tall. At 5'9'' for example the African Twin was a motorcycle that I know I would spend more time pickin up than riding. Another feature of the GT9 is the 17 inch front tire. Lets get real, I'm not about to be doing any crazy off road " The Long way around" rding. I was looking for a great motorcycle that is capable of touring. The GT9 is that motorcycle. I was also looking at the Kawasaki SX 1000 and suzuki GSX 1000 GT Plus. Great sport tourers with great performance. The downside is , and something that isn't talked about with reviews is the insurance cost. Both Suzuki and Kawasaki insurance cost are 3x more than what I am currently paying for a Speed Twin. Insurance on the 9 GT is extremely reasonable.

      THAT price is ONLY because Yamaha incentives to dealers to sell off stock that was not moving ...THAT is a DEAL of the century! Last year I had a very difficult time finding a dealer that would sell me this bike for msrp alone without adding on extra markup and freight etc,...Just msrp tax and registration (california) it was $16200 in July of 2022....now dealers all over are cutting the price $2k! Grab em while you can! The 2024 GT pluses will very likely be at least $18k out the door which is why they want NONE of the 2022s left on showroom floors by next year! Damn I wish I was just now buying my Tracer! Oh and check it out the 2024 R1 and likely then the MT10 also? WIll be a 1000cc CP3! TURBO CHARGED no less! Turbo lag problem has pretty much been sloved via mapping and what is being learned about the best way to size turbo units ....like on my wife's suv 2.5L 4 cylinder it feels so much like a V8! And the smog legal BBR Turbo kit for the 2.0 Miata like no lag! They discovered buy using oversized dual turbos at low boost you get great power increase without the lag! Something which would be particularly unwelcome with a 2024 225hp R1 CP3 powered sportbike! (hp figure is my guess) It would be a total torque bomb! AND a ripper! My hp guess is based on a liter class motor already being good for shy of 200hp ......if a turbo only adds 10-15% (so conservative really) then you easily can see my 225hp guess ...AND massive torque a given if a cross plane TRIPLE! If they can relax the ergos a bit? And keep the weigh down below 440 wet? I SO want one! I dont care what my wife says the checkbook is coming out! EVEN if it is 25 grand! I am SO in!

  • @dumptrump3788

    This is a great video & the Romanian scenery is beautiful. I have to agree about the power of the Tracer 9GT, it's not the most powerful but more than all the power I'll ever need so paying more money for a more powerful machine didn't make sense. I find the suspension to be stiff & I'm still working on finding the sweet spot. Engine noise? Yes, it sounds great, but I find there's a lot of induction roar that gets tiring after a while.
    The seat is AWFUL! I've levelled mine & use an AirHawk seat pad so now it's merely poor rather than torture. The screen only works for riders up to 5ft 10in-180cm. Over that it buffets your helmet & is VERY noisy. I have an MRA Vario screen, it's much better, but still not tall enough for me at 6ft 3"/191cm. The screens are ugly, but the real disappointment is the lack of features like Bluetooth connectivity & a really crappy fuel gauge. The grip heaters are wonderful, but controlling them, like a lot of the features, means manipulating a scroll wheel that is cheap & very nasty. It's also on the right, making that side too crowded. It's the only time I can think of saying "Yamaha needs to take a look at what BMW have done" That BMW "Wizz Wheel" is an amazing device & the Gold Standard that all bike manufacturers should look to equal.
    Where the Tracer 9GT beats pretty much everything else hands down is purchase price & fuel economy. I get 52mpg US even with regular commutes. On long, steady speed rides rides I get closer to 56mpg US! The Tracer isn't perfect, but when I tested other bikes (Triumph Tiger 900GT, Kawasaki Versys 1000LT SE+, BMW 900XR, Suzuki GSX 1000 etc) I always came back to the Tracer. The only bike that even came close was the Triumph Tiger 900GT & that was great, but the added expense put me off.
    What does really SERIOUSLY annoy me is the lack of support from Yamaha N. America. Accessories are almost non existent & so far I have had to buy items from Europe. Why Yamaha isn't supporting this great motorcycle in the USA I don't know, but I can go into any Triumph, BMW or Suzuki dealer & find accessories easily enough so why Yamaha can't do the same is a puzzle. I hope the GT+ will come to America, if Yamaha doesn't then it will be simply handing the market over to Suzuki & their new GSX 1000GT which is a very impressive machine at a similar price.

    My only compaint one year of owning same model (8000 miles now) is that because they did not sell well they are now heavily discounted whereas I paid full msrp of almost $15k but that is just sour grapes and at my age I would nor have wanted to miss a whole year riding this bike just to save a couple thouand dollars I must have an iron butt because I think the seat is fine as well as the windscreen unless there is cross wind but I imagine that would be bad riding almost anything but idk ,,,,so long as the wind is not crazy everything about this bike is nice in A2 suspension and when more sport focused in twisties in A1 suspension (most of the time as I am retired) I just today ordered new front brake pads as I notice the originals are quite used up! (alarming to see!) I ordered EBC FA252HH which are supposedly much better? We shall see Also I am third set of tires the originals hit wear bar at 2500miles second set was dunlop sport touring Road Smart 4 which I love but also only lasted 3200miles to the wear bars but I bought a second set anyway note on both previous set I did squeeze some further miles beyond wear bar ...maybe not smart but I am thrifty! lol

I tend to slide forwards... 😭What do you suggest me doing? Should I try to get the foot pegs at the hi position and the seat at the lowest? I feel that this would hurt my knees more... 😭

    Salut, merci pt acest clip, dar totusi nu am gasit nicaieri mentionat cum se comporta cu pasager. Din alte reviews am vazut ca este destul de joasa si ca ar atinge daca ai si pasager + bagaje.

      Ma surprinde, din research-ul meu toti pasagerii erau impresionati de confort, si riderii nu simteau prea mari diferente. Nu am incercat deci nu pot sa ajut cu o opinie.
      Si mersi pentru apreciere 🙏

    I did the same exact purchase….rushed , lol. The red is awesome. What top case did you get , I’m looking to get one. The seat angle is my #1 gripe but I fixed it with the kit you’re looking at.

    • @thetinkerer136
      @thetinkerer136  Рік тому

      It was a gamble but I’m happy I did it!
      The topcase is OE Yamaha, it’s very good and it works with the bike’s key.
      You have to get the mounting plate, top case, tumbler for the lock and the plastic trim that goes over the case. In total about 400 euros and a but of fiddling around to install.
      But very useful and it looks great on the bike, unlike most topcases.
      Can’t wait to fix the seat 😀

    I had a 2022 Tracer 9 GT and I got rid of it after only 3k miles. It was horribly unfomfortable, which is crazy because it is designed to much up miles in comfort. The seat was horrible, and it killed my neck. I moved the bars and the pegs and everything and I just could not get it to work for me...

    That was a superbly interesting video for which I thank you. Tomorrow, I will demo a Tracer 9 GT here in the UK. I think I’m sold on it, however, your comments relating to seat comfort. I am 185.4 and 182 lbs, so a reasonably comfortable seat is essential. Are you able to comment on the ‘integrated Garmin system’ mentioned in Yamaha marketing material? Regards.

    I also use a Tracer 9 GT. I basically love it. It now has 17,000 km on it. However, it really bothers me that the clutch rattles. This is a basic fault of this block that I don't understand why Yamaha doesn't fix it.

    • @thetinkerer136
      @thetinkerer136  Рік тому

      It's a great bike! Do you mean the sticky neutral? Sometimes it doesn't go from 1st to 2nd all the way, and gets stuck in neutral; you have to forcefully kick the gear shifter up or down so it goes back into gear. It's a rare occurance.

    Nice bike mate. I ordered the standard one..RED!. Need it for commuting in busy Dutch traffic on daily basis.
    Still waiting though...should be delivered somewhere next months
    During the test ride: I didn't lik the screen and the seat.....both solvable I gueses back than.
    For the screen I will go for lower one ..several options on the market.
    For the seat I have no option yet. I know of the "kit" that change the angle, but not a real solution.
    I am considering re-polstering whith other foam .....so I am curious what your solution to the seat will be...let me know.
    Greetings, Emiel (Netherlands)

      Congrats! As we say in Romania: may you have dry roads ahead!
      If you ride in very hot weather then yes, a lower screen will help, and it looks better too. So that's a good mod.

    Purchase the comfort seat, that may solve your issue

    • @thetinkerer136
      @thetinkerer136  Рік тому +1

      Apparently it's an issue of inclination, not padding. If I'm going to shell out $200 just for a bit of extra foam, and it doesn't do the trick, I'm going to be very upset with Yamaha. So first I'm going to try the inclination fix, then buy the comfort seat if it still needs it.
