  • I borrow the 2022 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT from YMA and share my test thoughts on how this revamped sports tourer stacks up. Highlights include the newest gen CP3 triple-cylinder engine, electronic suspension, extensive electronics package, heated grips, cruise control, adjustable screen and standard panniers (keeping in mind this is the GT review!).
    A quickshift is also included as part of the package, and the Tracer 9 GT handles two up touring and sport touring with absolute ease, making it a bike you'll want to get away on every weekend.

    I own the Tracer 9 Gt, great motorcycle. great value. Other motorcycles I considered was the Kawasaki Ninja Sx, BMW F 900 XR, Suzuki 1000 GSX 1000 GT, Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro, and the Kawasaki Versys. All our great motorcycles, but after much research The Tracer was the bike for me. KAW Ninja 1000 and Suz. 1000GSX GT Plus have high insurance premiums, almost 3 x more than what I pay on my Speed Twin. The Versus was to big for me and I already owned the f900XR. High cost of maintenance on the BMW and long wait for parts and lackluster engine performance cancelled the F900XR. The Triumph tiger 900 was on the top of my list. I think the tiger is a great motorcycle. It was a tough choice. Being realistic I wasn't going to be doing to much off road. Plus the Tracer is about 2000 US dollars cheaper. Tracer it was. Just an overall wonderful motorcycle.

    Informed and straight forward review. Thank you. I've owned this bike for 10 months and have put about 8,500 miles on it. I purchased it, instead of a comparable BMW, Triumph, or Ducati, because of reliability, functionality, price, looks, and the competency of the dealer selling it. It's not perfect, no bike is. The aerodynamics of an upright riding position coupled with an "adventure styled" bike produce wind noise, but fortunately no buffeting. The stock seat (the comfort seat you sat on is unavailable in the United States) is uncomfortable after an hour. Both of these issues, however, have been solved. In the end I am very happy with my purchase. By the way, downshifting with the quick shifter works best with the throttle closed. Cheers.

      Great to hear! I didn't realise till later that the comfort seat wasn't standard on the GT, but I was very impressed by it. The Tracer 9 GT really does seem like a great overall package. I think when it was first announced people compared it to some of the European offerings without looking at extras needed to really create a fair comparison. But like you said, nothings perfect, but a few tweaks to make a bike better has never been the end of the world for me!

    Thanks Kris. Great review. I’ve listened to a lot of reviews regarding this bike and the number one complaint seems to be the amount of wind noise and increased buffeting from that screen regardless of which position you have it in. Haven’t ridden one yet myself however these thoughts are consistent around the globe.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 роки тому +2

      It's possible the Shoei Hornet ADV just works really well with the screen setup as I didn't have any issues or really notice anything like it wrenching my helmet around, but I've also got a relatively short torso for my height and ran it in the highest position most of the time. It was noisy but I forgot my ear plugs so I kind of expected that, and I'd have said it was similar if not slightly better than the Super Tenere with both screens in the top position for airflow/protection, and noise.
      I didn't think to try another helmet to be honest, although I've noticed a big difference between helmets on the same bike in the past in that area.

    • @marcusgeorge1825
      @marcusgeorge1825 2 роки тому +1

      @@MotoJournoKris Correct helmets do play a role. However, most other reviewers have noted how tiring that constant inconsistent buffeting and air flow is just makes it tiresome I ride what is regarded as a really solid platform and a definite positive leap forward. Some taller reviewers have actually said it got worse when the screen was at its highest as the airflow was just smacking them in all directions and preferred it at its lowest setting to at least get some clean air. It just put me off as the last thing you want after a big day in the saddle is sore neck muscles. I guess I just need to take one for a ride. I also agree with the electronic suspension, call me old school but I like the ability to set it to how I like it for me and not have it in the back of my mind that it’s constantly adjusting and not always the way I prefer. I loved the way you summed this part up as it’s spot on. Each rider is different and a computer can only do so much. I also in the same way like changing gears so also not a fan of Honda’s DCT gearboxes. Unless it a Goldwing. But that’s an entirely different animal. Thanks Kris.

      @@marcusgeorge1825 I know I definitely didn't prefer it at the lowest setting at speed as I recall dropping it and thinking it was noticeably worse. Great review Kris. I previously had a 2018 MT09 and the quick shifter was up only. On my 2021 BMW S1000 R Sports the quick shifter is an absolute peach although I would say it seems more refined in the downward shifts at lower RPM. I would love this bike as a two-up second bike but it seems you can't have everything in this world lol

    Hi Kris
    Your timing is impeccable, l currently have the 2016 version of the bike, To say l am in awe of the machine is an understatement. Sadly my current exposure to bikes is all Yamaha from the 125 to the XSR 900 and thw Tracer. l did very briefly ride the XADV 750 but between not liking scooters and the length of time l got to ride it, l cannot say l rode it for a reasonable amount of time to form an opinion.
    The Tracer maybe due to the screen is very comfortable at speed, the seat is comfy and though its not quite as exciting or wild as the XSR it does quite well. My friend who happens to own both says he prefers the Tracer for long disstances and the XSR for anything else.
    As l have had the Traacer for about a month now l more inclined to think its the better bike. l took it onto my favourite road and l brought a friend with me which l have never done before on the XSR but despite that it handled the sweeping and curving mountain road very well and did quite well on the highways too.
    So for those reasons right now l think this is the bike l will get amongst many others once the lotto money comes in of course .LOL.
    On another note, l am sure you have heard the news that Ducati has done very well in the previous year. l am rather afraid of those bikes given the price tag, their less than stellar reliability and the eyerwatering prices for anything related to the brand.
    Despite this l think l have become an admirer of one of their bikes, the Multistrada the V4S
    as we say in the vernacular if you are going to eat a dog, you may as well eat the biggest nastiest one you can find. So that is why l want the best they have. That bike just seems to do everything right.
    So l am curious to know have you ridden it what are your thoughts on it if you have and what about in comparison to the Yamaha.
    Coming down to more realistic bikes l really like the look of the GSX S 1000 GT touring bike. Not really a fan of the position l much more prefer bikes where you are sitting upright but looking at its specs and the overall reviews it has received and of course the price tag, this may be the surprise hit of them all.
    l think its a good time to be alive and better yet if you have the bank balance to finance them all. There are truly many good offerings out there and we have so much choice. As a lot of people say nowadays it is hard to get a bad bike and long may that be.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 роки тому

      We're definitely spoilt for choice right now, so it's a great time to be a rider! I was really impressed with how well the GT goes through the twisties and sweepers too and the big benefit is definitely that it's capable of doing so many things well, including two-up.
      The V4 Multistrada I haven't had a chance to test ride yet, but I was always really impressed with the previous V-twin gen bikes, and the V4 was staggeringly good in the Panigale, although obviously it's a different setup in the Multis. The benefit with the V4 is they've moved towards longer service intervals now as well, which has got to help in the long run for the wallet. Plus as you say, if you're going big, may as well go all the way if you can!
      I haven't ridden one though, so sadly no real comparison to the Tracer GT.
      I'm hoping to test out the GSX-S1000 again too this year, I feel like that kind of falls into a similar category as the Ninja 1000, which isn't as upright, but offers the sports-bike style tourer and is very competitively priced.

    • @bobojo8591
      @bobojo8591 2 роки тому

      I think the thing which really surprised me most about that bike is its stability in corners and when laden. We were just doing a morning ride no luggage.
      The other thing l found myself doing speeds l do not normally do and this bike handled them with aplomb.
      l think the measure of its quality was that after we rode the bike my friend thanked me earnestly and he even asked about how much it would cost and so on. He does not ride but l think he may have become a new convert!
      The Tracer is something else. l cannot wait to try out the updated one.

      I’ve owned 2x Z1000sx’s ( European version of Ninja 1000 ), the Tracer is better in virtually every situation ( I only prefer the looks of the Kawasaki compared to my Tracer ), in terms of pillion comfort my Mrs could only go about 1 hour before needing a break on the Kawasaki’s, whereas we rode 3 hours on the tracer and she has no problems at all, she says it’s the most comfortable I’ve owned ( also owned a H2SX. Also worth noting the Ninja 1000 is not homologated for use with a top box an panniers together, you can buy an after rack that works with the pannier but I reckon it could cause insurance issues if you had a crash.
