Where was I when ya’ll were filming this, Maria!? 🥺 Anyhow, I might have to go with my bread and butter lens/the lens I cannot live without- Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM! 🔥 I don’t mind taking portraits of everything in creamy-delicious depth of field all alone stranded in a Desert Island. 🏝️
Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 nikkor z mount. I shoot everything with this lens. First used a Voigtlander 40mm back in 2012 on a 5 week trip out west. Works for landscapes, people, and close focusing. This new f/1.2 (z mount) is magical.
This was really fun seeing the different personalities from the store! All too often, we look at B&H as a camera warehouse (which is also true) and forget about the great people that work there. My choice - Sony 35 GM - while I don't use it that often, every time I do I am stunned by how good the quality of the images are. Not too wide, not too tight - the perfect goldilocks lens.
A 35mm focal length Lens for full frame Cameras would be my second choice after a short tele macro prime Lens. If I was to choos a 35mm Lens, then it wiould be the excellent Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which has just as good image quality as the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM Lens, but the Voigtländer is much more compact, more light weight and it is build like a tank !
It's been said the best camera is the one you have in your hand at the moment. I suppose the same could be said for a lens. Much as I'd like to go with a Canon 24-105, I think I'd just want my Canon 100m f/2.8L macro. Love macro stuff !!!
To take this too seriously, I don't think a portrait lens is the right answer. It should be a lens that can capture an image your eyes cannot. So either a macro lens or a super telephoto bird lens. So either the Laowa 100mm f2.8 in your mount of choice or a 600mm f4. Alternate choice: a Noct but only for astrophotography! You're on a desert island after all, the dark skies will be incredible, and connect you to the world in a way now impossible in modern times. Ya know, cuz alone on a desert island who are you making portraits of, and wouldn't you get sick of seeing their face anyways lol?
I own a total of16 lenses, including the f/2.8 trilogy but this lens is much more convenient. I can leave this lens on from dusk to dawn and use the faster lenses when the light is very low.
85mm 1.2. . Low light capability you can see in the dark. Most cameras have a digital zoom to make it 10X magnification for spotting planes ships or animals.
I love 35mm equiv, so the lens would be Fujifilm GF 45mm f/2.8 for GFX mount or XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR (new one) for XF mount (depending on which body I will be on the island with), 🙂
IDK if I had to pick one lens to use for the rest of my life or be stuck on an island with, I' probably go more for a travel zoom personally. The 24-70 is versatile and fast if you get the 2.8 version but it is somewhat limited. So something like the Nikon Z 28-400 or 24-200, Canon 24-240 or the Sony 24-240 or a Tamron 28-300. While they aren't the fastest lenses, they are one lens that can handle a lot of tasks. I mean maybe this is because I mostly shoot landscape and travel so the longer FLs and variety is more important to me than sheer sharpness or speed perhaps.
On a desert island a camera would pretty low on my priority list and I’d settle for the one on my iPhone. Anywhere else I wouldn’t limit my self to one lens. Starting out in 1970 getting paid and credit for shooing in college I used a pair of Nikon F bodies with 35mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.8, my ‘bridged SLR was Nikon 8008 with 24-70mmm and 70-200mm zooms. I switched to Canon digital in 2004 with a 20D I always carried EF-S 10-22mm, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, two 580ex flashes with DIY diffusers and a Stroboframe camera flip bracket. I still use the lenses and flashes on my 15MP 50D which more than adequate for posting on UA-cam and other social media and this year added two R6mkII bodies with 100-500mm and 800mm f/11 so can quickly swap between them and with EF-RF adapter used all my old glass including the EF-S 10-22mm which the R6mkII senses and switches automatically to crop mode. Hey B&H when is the RF10-20mm going to be in stock? I can’t wait to sent a couple more grand your way 💸 😂
I think the question is probably wrong, especially if you take it too literally. On a Desert Island your lens should not be mirrorless. There is NO point in a lens you cannot look through without battery power. So DSLR lens and preferably one with the ability to look for passing ships. OR The 24-70 or 120 is a must have lens but then again on a desert island? The other option is to go with a good lens I can use to help me start fire using it as a magnifying glass. 😮😅
Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 Contemporary DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon, got it in my bag, if i get dropped into a desert island hopefully thats the one that makes it, id be able to use it as a telescope.
I think, in such situation you no neen wide angle. Because 1-2 photos and that is all !(( You must have somethinh like 50-85-105-135 !!! If only one , then maybe 24-105 or rf 24-70 2.8 for Canon $)) I have Canon R8 + rf 24 1.8 + Lexar 1667 256 Gb and for me NOW its great choise $)) I like wide angle, but not on island )) ps Hello from Russia (Moscow) )))
If I was stranded on a desert island and could only choose 1 lens, it’d be like a 2,000mm so I could see boats on the horizon. And the front element of a 2,000mm lens would be large, I could use that with the sun to make a fire. Boom, a 2,000mm lens no doubt.
My Tamron 35-150 F2-F2.8 E mount - Pet Peeve using a wireless lav mic handheld! AT least put the $20 stick on it. Heck your partners with Rode use their Handheld Interview Mic
Hmmm desert island sounds Wide angle landscape to me. Good minimum focus distance is going to be important for versatility. I think I’d have to choose a Nikon Z14-30 F4.
If I was ship wrecked on a desert island, I'd want the longest lens I could find to spot passing ships. But, if I could only have one lens in every day life, it would be the 24-70 GM II, since I shoot Sony. Since I'm an outdoor photographer, I'd be interested in what cameras and lenses photographers use for street photography. Or what cameras and lenses outdoor photographers use that aren't Sony, Nikon, or Canon and why they use them.
A Pentax 50 f/1.7, as the K1000 is my only camera that'll function without electricity. It does need film, though. For digital (if electricity was available), I've never upgraded from the 18-55 f/2.8-4 that came with my Fuji XE-1, so I'd go with that. I suppose this means I'd leave all the Canon EF gear behind.
The correct answer is the longest lens you can get with a SLR. It can be used as a spotting scope and, being and SLR, you can look through it without power. That's what she meant, right? 🤔
I want a 600mm or longer so I can be looking for boats passing by. Maybe some filters to see thru the haze. And I want a flash and some batteries so I can tap out sos to the boat.
Olympus 12-100mm f/4 IS Pro, literally the holy grail of travel all-purpose lenses; basically 24-200mm range in FF terms and sharp to the point you'd think it's a prime lens.
What is your desert-island lens, and why?
Where was I when ya’ll were filming this, Maria!? 🥺 Anyhow, I might have to go with my bread and butter lens/the lens I cannot live without- Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM! 🔥 I don’t mind taking portraits of everything in creamy-delicious depth of field all alone stranded in a Desert Island. 🏝️
Fujinon 18-120 because of focal range and weather resistance
apo 35mm summicron with cropping you can legit do anything.
There's plenty to can take with a Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM lens!
Without doubt Sony RX10IV, 24-600 equivalent. Sony please continue this line!!!!
Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 nikkor z mount. I shoot everything with this lens. First used a Voigtlander 40mm back in 2012 on a 5 week trip out west. Works for landscapes, people, and close focusing. This new f/1.2 (z mount) is magical.
Definitely the Nikkor Z 24-120 f/4. Versatile and incredibly sharp.
We always want the opinions of our experts in the store. Always fun to include them.
A 35mm focal length Lens for full frame Cameras would be my second choice after a short tele macro prime Lens. Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 for Sony E mount.
Exactly
Too heavy; the f/2.8-4 version is more practical. Better yet be a new Z mount release of a 24-150mm f/4 with image stabilization.
I agree with you.
@@thomasanderson5929 No worries. Having to climb trees for coconuts will strengthen your arms enough for this chunky beast.
This! Nothing compares. I keep shooting Sony because of this lens even though I hate the bodies.
600mm so you can look for a passing ship for rescue.
Leica 1600mm f/5.6
Pop with the 24-120 f/4 Nikon knows his thing.... That lens is my lens of choice...
Amazing store! Good to know it through UA-cam!
It's been said the best camera is the one you have in your hand at the moment. I suppose the same could be said for a lens. Much as I'd like to go with a Canon 24-105, I think I'd just want my Canon 100m f/2.8L macro. Love macro stuff !!!
I will also take a short tele prime macro Lens ! Most versatile Lens ever.
Always nice to see Maria. The one lens for me would be the Fujinon XF33 f/1.4 (50mm equivalent) on my X-T4.
To take this too seriously, I don't think a portrait lens is the right answer. It should be a lens that can capture an image your eyes cannot. So either a macro lens or a super telephoto bird lens. My mind says RF24-70 2.8. My heart says RF50mm 1.2
Go with your heart when it comes to a hobby.
@@grahamfloyd3451 I own both and both take great photos, but they are so darn heavy. I might take the new 28-70. It's pretty good.
The Leitz Summitar 5cm f2 😮 it has a stepless aperture ring, so you can set the exposure very accurately❗️
Canon 24-105 EF on my 1DX Mk III is a fabulous pairing.
Canon 28-300L EF

That’s my workhorse. I have a sigma 24 to 70 2.8 and it’s absolutely my favorite lens and most used all around.
It’s a man’s world there at the mighty B&H
Watching this from the UK just to see inside the famous BH Photo…. I’d love to visit but won’t fly. Btw, the staff look really cool 😎
It's like visiting virtually!
I love 35mm equiv, so the lens would be Fujifilm GF 45mm f/2.8 for GFX mount or XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR (new one) for XF mount (depending on which body I will be on the island with), 🙂
What a good video! Very nice!

How about this: FX3 OR FX6?
I would take the FX3, because it has the same sensor as the FX6, and I like the portability for the FX3
Easy. That big green Sigma 1200mm, so I can look for ships to signal. I'll be off that island within a week 😆
Smart thinking.
That big green Sigma lens.
50mm 1.2

Nix the idea of a desert island. No lens will satisfy you like a cold bottle of water. Instead of a lens, I'll take lawn chairs under a coconut tree.
Tamron 28-200mm
Whichever one is best as a magnifying glass so I could start a fire!
But wouldn't that damage the lens? What would you take photos with??
Did you mean deserted island not desert?
Desert island and deserted island both work for this, desert island is just more commonly used.
