Such a fun game. Break it out every Halloween and the kids love it.

I've had great times playing both Horrified and Horrified: American Monsters--the first feels like a smoother play. I have recently passed Horrified on to my little sister--she's a video gamer who I believe will love board gaming if introduced to the right games! Fingers crossed.

This is our favourite family game. Simple enough for my kid to play yet still enjoyable for us grizzly jaded gamers.

Rules clarification. On board game geek the designer clarified that the player characters that can teleport, cannot teleport a villager with them. It really changes the game up. But of course they can teleport the items that they carry just not a villager from place to place.

We had a ton of fun with this one as a group. Prospero Hall has quietly made a few really great, inexpensive family-friendly games based on IPs (Jaws, Goonies, Back to the Future).

I love Back To The Future: Back In Time, and recently received Jaws as a gift--Prospero Hall's affordable, fun, light-hearted games are always a winner at the table.

It reminds me a lot of Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu.
    I love it!

I myself painted the plastic monster pieces to their original color looks, Frankstein with green skin, Dracula with a black cape, Creature from Black Lagoon with green skin also, Mummy I did white and dirty looking bandages, etc. I like to get another set of the monsters and do Black & White with the effect you see on tv

Great review! This is really a perfect game for groups new to 'modern' board gaming!

  • @kyur3813

I totally agree, the game is a superbly polished product. I really appreciate the nice details, like the (slightly tweaked) introduction from Frankenstein that is written on the back of the board, greeting players upon opening the box. I also really like the 4 clever illustrations on the sides of the box's lid or that the cover illustration forms the shape of a skull. And as classic as the theme is, the game itself is very modern in terms of having a very diverse and balanced cast. In fine detail, it even breaks overly traditional colour-coding (the pink character is male, while the blue character is female). The Mummy's curse can also strike any character (though it's quite creepy with the young courier). There's much more to praise, like the by you aforementioned well-written rulebook or that the setup instructions can be found on the back of any monster's sheet. The game also plays and flows very quickly.
I disagree though that the monsters should be standees too -- I usually prefer standees over miniatures, but since the monsters are the stars of the game, they should stand out as such, so it makes sense to present them in a more three-dimensional way. Especially since it's a family game, these little toys needed to be the way they are, in my opinion. Regarding the difficulty: I like the game's modular difficulty, but the overall biggest downside of the game is that each defeated monster significantly drops the overall difficulty. It's too bad that there is no weaker (but still streamlined) replacement effect when an already defeated monster would have taken an action. And I know what you mean by wishing for an expansion or slightly more complexity, but I personally discarded that thought very quickly and just appreciate the game for what it is. Every time I finish playing the game and put it back on my shelf, I always think what a neat little game it indeed is.
The fact that this game is only available in English and Polish (which came 3 whole years later) is to me surprising, but at the same time not, as Universal's classic monsters may be an integral part of popculture, but I feel like their relevance in modern popculture is slowly fading away outside of the US ... and the fact that Universal's attempt of bringing back their "Dark Universe" failed miserably surely did not help. Anyway: Great game and a solid part of my collection.

This game is always in my bag when I visit friends. It pleases beginners because it's simple. Experienced gamers play because although it's not difficult, it fills in a little time as the social situation might demand (such as waiting for late comers, or splitting up the players).

Pretty sure the text that greets you when you open the box is straight from the beginning of Frankenstein, delivered by Van Sloan.

@@TheDungeonDive well I did a fan creature of the hunchback of Notre Dame that I really like 😊 however there are several that are fantastic from Dracula‘s daughter, or one that give you suggestions to do like one of the icons you have to use to defeat Dracula needs to be a steak or garlic.
One excellent posted fan made monster set just released is a revamp of the seven different characters with brand new missions. One of them is Frankenstein versus the Wolfman, another one is the bride who wants to create a child. And that just came out not long ago on their posted files. So check out their files and see you what looks interesting!
