So having gone through the stages of unlocking the signals. The Whittier signals won't switch to green unless all the Mainline switches past it going as far as Thomas Valley are not reversed or "divergent" Once you unlock the signals going all the way to Sylva it does a slightly better job of alerting you that somewhere between ABS sections there is a switch you forgot that leads off the mainline. CTC does not govern any of the "yard" areas such as East Whittier but will hold trains at their lights if it detects a "reversed switch".
This also applies to entering into Whittier as there are Two Mainlines at Whittier but the third track that allows access to Hollifield and Stenzel are "yard" tracks essentially and if any switch is reversed/normal that leads onto that yard track it will not allow a train to enter into that side until it is resolved.
    Hope that helps.
The devs video does an okay job at explaining CTC but this video I found to be far more informative ua-cam.com/video/BPLg5Bdmvrg/v-deo.html

from my observation flares too close to switches tend to get ignored, in particular when placed right on the edge where the error message 'too close to switch' disappears. your flare at alarka jct seems to sit right on that edge.
regarding the 15mph signal your passenger train picked up: it is located at the western exit of bryson. since that signal marks the end of your signal-controlled area it will display a restricted signal (yellow) at all times (unless you line the switches into the 2 companies), at least until you get the signial milestone 'hemmingway to brooks'. AI treats restricted and approach signals as a speed limit of 15mph. the button 'resume speed' overides that speedlimit and the AI will accelerate back to the set speed until it runs into the next yellow (or red) signal. telling an AI to ignore a red signal also sets the 15mph limit.
it's the one tiny issue i have with the signaling system as there are no signals up to alarka, all trains going there will at best get a restricted signal and thus only go up there at 15mph unless you manually tell them to ignore that restriction.

You can go directly to the dispatcher office using the console command "/tp ds". It leaves you in the middle of the room, so you still have to go "sit down" at the panel.

Nice a long video, Thanks for making the effort to make it, as we all know you do have a life. As for your signal issue being red. It is a current game design that the end signals on a current connection look into what is "dark territory" basically no further signal control and will always be red. Thats why right now your signal east out of Wittier will always be red until you build your signals to Sylva. You should see the same thing west out of Bryson until you expand your signals out from there. Hope that helps.

So the issue with the east bound signals at Whittier is the switches all the way down to the east end of the yard at east Whittier need to be "normal". Once you get all the signals upmand running you will be able to use ABS to run trains a little more efficiently. Its nice to have them upmand running so you can run against each other and set up meets.

When leaving the end signal in the block the train will be limited to 15mph - this means that the approach to Silva, Andrews and the entire Alarka branch from Alarka Junction are all set this way (assuming you have all of the signaling unlocked). As you're currently set, West of Bryson, and East of Whittier, your trains will drop to 15mph, as they leave the controlled block.
Where there is no yard signal on a post, you will hit a red board if the yard is switched any yard is switched before the next signal - so the Whittier-East signal will only be green if the line all the way to the Silva yard is clear. I've had issues with the Whittier signal, if any East Whittier yard switch is set for the yard, and it seems a bit buggy sometimes (though it may be something I'm doing wrong), I find that exiting the game and reentering will enable the Whittier East signal. Once you unlock the Silva signals, the Whittier signal becomes more reliable.
The signals at Bryson have 3 boards - top = main, middle = alternate through route, bottom = yard signal. The yard signal works like you're leaving the block, so from the Bryson entrance through the yard, the AI will drop to 15mph.

Your 'good looking game' comment at 15:28 gave me a chuckle because there's a couple people on the steam forum complaining there's "too many rocks" in the river...
The orange is nice...reminds me of the Pickens RR, which uses orange U boats that used to be MOW for CSX.

If you open Andrew’s every contract you have will order cars from BOTH interchanges. I.E. there will be cars to deliver from Andrew’s to Silva paper (& they have to go back to the interchange they came from)

Kicking saves so much time. I kick everything, I’ll kick stuff from Sylva to the interchange or from Whittier Depot to the yard. Super fun! Been putting my pacific locomotive to the test with +2000 ton trains from Alarka to Sylva.
Great video and goodluck to ya sir!

So it definitely seems like you have a good understanding of the difference between ABS and CTC. When you have it in ABS mode, anytime you have a switch thrown to divert the train away from track that has signals on it to a track that doesnt, IE the East Whittier Saw Mill area, ABS will throw up a red. So at the end of the video when you didnt know why the signals were both red going east out of Whittier, it was because you had the switch thrown to go into East Whittier and not lined for the main. Best way around that if you arent babysitting your train, put a flare right before the switch.
The only place on the railroad where you can have AI go into a non-ABS controlled area is Bryson (that I have found) since it has 3 signals on the stand instead of 2.

    • @KerboOnYT
      @KerboOnYT  6 місяців тому +1

That makes sense. I didn't think that switch mattered since it was a couple switches away

Funnily enough the weather in Ela at the start is dead on for how it currently is outside right now-hail and rain now gone and big fluffy clouds.
(The orange is a good choice btw. It would be nice if you could indeed choose different lettering and fonts for a livery.)

  • @jimbruneau6769

At 1:01.10 you don't get the signal leaving because you left the board in CTC mode. In ABS mode the signals are triggered by the turnout position and which side of the signal the train is on. Unless you are actually sitting at the CTC board, put it into ABS mode for the signals to work properly.

I have my avatar sitting at the CTC desk permanently. But, yes. It would be nice to be able to hire a CTC guy avatar, that you can have sitting at the desk permanetly, freeing up your player avatar. Allthough I am used to now to just have my #1 avatar glued to the chair.

I’ve noticed the AI will ask once if it’s okay to pass a fuzee. Thereafter, with the same engine and same fuzee, it won’t ask again. 2) My speed slider doesn’t always work, very annoying, and I finally realized I can click on the bar for any speed instead of sliding. 3) That’s a lot of coal cars, what Tier level is your Robinson Gap? Do you deliver and pick up every game day? Thanks, very enjoyable series, I’ve watched most. I like long videos.
