best British accent I've ever heard performed by an American, and I am British and come from England. Got an 'Inglorius Basterds' vibe and then remembered the massive Calabash pipe in the first scene. I love synchronicities.
I love your reviews. Lots of information about the tobacco; from the description to the experience. Because I'm not addicted to nicotine I always pay careful attention to its level before I buy the tobacco. You are the only UA-camr I found so far who pays attention to this detail in tobacco reviews. Thank you very much for your good work and keep going.
+DJ Shuffle - I'm glad you're finding my reviews helpful. Nicotine level is subjective, but I always TRY to give you guys an idea about the strength. Thanks for watching!
I was waiting for this review, as Skiff is one of my favorites, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have been smoking some McCleland Orientals, and it's interesting to note the difference in tastes from the Gawith oriental-forward blends. Interested to read below that the intro music is "Brad-crafted." Liked it the first time I heard it! Well done!
Reciprocated Bradley, Can you do a review on Rattrays Sweet and Fragrant? ive just tried it and found it to be very nice.I would be interested to hear your comments on the more fragrant side of pipe smoking..
I really like the way that you do the review and its very helpful for me.Living in a country were you can't find more than 10 tobacco ,almost all of them aromatics(no latakia,no flakes, no tins...) and having about 40 euros expenses just to get some, i can't afford to buy something i dont like .So after watching many i say that YOU are doing good job my friend!!
I'm glad you find the videos helpful! So many wonderful tobaccos are grown in Greece, so I'm sorry to hear that the selection of tobacco for the consumer is so limited.
I finally got around to ordering a tin of Skiff, and I'm kind of amazed at how enjoyable this is, without being... spectacular in any particular way. I just want to keep smoking it! For some reason, the batch I got was not overly damp, and only needed airing for half-an-hour before it was ready to pack and light... go figure!
Another fine entry to your _Silver Salver_ pipe tobacco reviews. Skiff is one of the few English mixtures tolerated by the Mrs. Most others--including even MacBaren Solent--precipitate gale force winds from the direction of her lair. One scratches one's head. I too have noticed the faint traces of Lakeland sauce in Skiff and Squadron. Perhaps Gawith aren't finicky about using the same equipment for all their blends, causing a slight crossover. Not unpleasant, but perhaps not quite as pure as the Dunhill offerings.
Dude that hair! Love it! Great Review Video! I smoked this baccy for the first time while watching your review & I like it. It's a good even smoke. Tasty & Mellow for me. Great Flavors not overpowering at all. Thanks for the video! Happy #pipetime 🍻 😎 👍 #pipesmokernation
Well look here, my oh my...I just stumbled on this older review. Well done, Bradley...thank you. Too bad it's next to impossible to get the Gawith blends ☹️
Bradley, just found this review. Skiff is an old favorite of mine, now unobtainable, as all Sam Gawith tins seem to be. I hate to wax nostalgic all the time, but 50 freakin' years ago there were so many great British mixtures. Comoy's had the flat, rectangular tins in their British Isles Collection of English, Scottish, Cornish, and Irish mixtures. The Cornish was a broken brown Virginia flake, the Irish was a heavily scented... something. The English was fairly close to Skiff, as I recall. But the Scottish was pure heaven. Never tasted anything like it. Best of all, a tin sold for $1.25. Sir Walter was 27¢!
yet another great and enjoyable review keep up the great content. I recently picked up an interesting brand I hadn't seen before that is Drew Estate: Meat Pie. i find it to be a fairly enjoyable English to smoke, and some of the soapy/savory/floral comments that you mentioned reminded me of that blend, so i was curious if you had ever run across drew estate and if you had what your opinion on it was.
I haven't smoked it yet, but several people have recommended it. I have an alert set on smokingpipes.com, so when they get some in, I'll be sure to buy a tin.
Nice review, thanks. I agree on the well balanced comment. On the other hand, regarding taste, I did not see Skiff in any way "like Squadron leader" at all. I think they are very different. One may like one but not the other I think. Also I find Skiff stronger than SL, on nicotine. I was a cigarette smoker, SL was too mild for me, Skiff seemed, not strong, but ok.
Well, it's all very subjective, but to me, Skiff tasted like a more Oriental forward version of Squadron Leader. The component tobaccos kind of bear that out. Thanks for watching!
Do you plan on reviewing any Savinelli tobaccos? I just got a free tin of the Doblone d'Oro with my new pipe and would be interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks for good review again.Skiff mixture...been smoking that for long time,it's peculiar blend...you can smoke this blend with different types of pipes and it always taste the same,I just smoke it in my Savinelli Oom Paul and it was good, just too mild but good smoke. You often smoke Peterson's pipes,so have you noticed big differences in quality beetween older and new ones. I have 20-25 year old Peteson's and they are good smokers...bought 2 new ones(2 years) ago,I thought that quality on these pipes was not good at all....smoke hole problems and finishing of the grain was not the best.. Have a pleasant weekend.
Olle Wahlroos - I've only ever bought one new Peterson (all the rest are from the 80's or older). It smokes quite well, but does have a fill on the bowl. It's a silver-mounted army. I have heard that some of their lower-grade pipes can be a bit hit-or-miss these days though as far as finish.
Thanks I'm smoking Peterson Ashford number 3 with army mouthpiece and it has his problems like can't smoke moist baccy which I prefare and couple another issues.Heard some rumours that when recession came to Ireland Peterson laid off these old Artisan's and placed them with younger blokes. I don't know but it makes sense. My older Peterson's smokes very well and one old Aran is one of favorites. Happy puffings and have s pleasant sunday smoke.
So true, but this Peterson I mentioned has mainly issues with drilling which is done little bit sloppy.I have 2 year old Savinelli and Brebbbia and those are Premium smokers...any way Peterson's are excelllent pipes. Have you tried Big Ben's or Chacom's both are good quality pipes.I have three of both and these babies are just wonderfull.,Same goes to my Ashton Estates. One which was positive suprise was Brebbia. Happy puffings.
Ok, I’ve tried this. Mine came delivered nice and humid. But it could still have done with 30 mins of airing. Lovely but not enough of the creosote, coal tar character that I love. But nice, soft and lilting. Being a nicotine bantam weight, the nic was just right for me.
Why not just leave the tin open for a few days or as long is necessary to get to the moisture level you like? Also I am bit curious about this "lakeland soap" that many people claim to detect in all blends made in the lakeland district. IMOP some blends by Samuel Gawith, e.g. Grousemoor (yuck) & many blends by Gawith & Hoggarth (SGs sister company in Kendal, Cumbria) have some kind of added flavouring that tastes a bit like hairspray. But, by no means all of them and I don't detect it in SG blends such as Skiff, SL and their other non aromatic blends.
Just picked up a tin of Skiff Mixture has a nice aroma I was expecting to be Gawith but my seems to be Goldilocks. Looking forward later for a good smoke.
Depends tin to tin, got mine recently and I put it straight to the jar since it was totally ok right from the tin... Same thing happened when I bought my no. 1 Commonwealth Mixture. BUT Im suprised anyway.. It´s like 2:10 in my case... Quite good leaf though, thanks for the vid!
Not a bad upper class accent for an American, Stuff lad.Now try a Scouse one(Liverpool) and we will see how you fare.Probably best reviewing pipe baccies methinks.Try it though.Jim.Liverpool.
Hans - I can tell you that EMP is almost a polar opposite from Night Cap (from a Dunhill perspective at least). And Bradley yet another excellent review - I'll attempt to procure some of this fine tobacco, and run it under my wife's hair dryer for 72 hours or so ;-)
My attention span sucks!!! I got so wrapped up in my thoughts while you were reading the tin description off the paper, I had to rewind twice. I was contemplating how that paper got that slice through the top of it.... yeah I'm a weird one.
It's hard to find exact ingredient listings for tobacco blends, but in general, it's assumed that pipe tobaccos don't contain the same sorts of chemical additives as cigarettes. They usually do have humectants (additives meant to keep the tobacco from drying out) and other flavoring additives (even in an "un-flavored" blends).
And, here you go again. Thanks for not mentioning other blends that I will race out and get........ What is the pipe you use in these reviews? Dude, did you write the tin description with your super fancy pen? Wow on the moisture level, not a good thing in the context of tobacco.
Let's see... The pipe I was smoking in this one was my Peterson Deluxe 6s, a great billiard (not a system pipe). I wrote the tin description with my Lamy Studio which has an extra-fine nib, which allows it to be used on shitty printer paper. The moisture level is NOT good, but the tobacco IS, so.... I guess it's a trade-off. Thanks for watching, buddy!
best British accent I've ever heard performed by an American, and I am British and come from England. Got an 'Inglorius Basterds' vibe and then remembered the massive Calabash pipe in the first scene. I love synchronicities.
I lost my shit at the beep. Literally spit tea on my new Peterson, so that’s always nice. Solidly unexpected my dude
Hello from China!you did great jobs on tabacco reviews, keep going!
thx
Thank you! It's nice to have a viewer from China.
Hahaha, you had me at *beeeeeep*. Another great, honest review.
Got to make sure we're "safe for work" here!

Gawith Orientals seem to have a mustier, older taste. More mellow and less sharp than many others I've tried.
Thanks for watching!
The best channel out there. I really enjoy your reviews and sunday smokes!
Kind of you to say!
Nice review as always my friend. I can always count on you for a thorough and detailed review. Thanks for sharing you thoughts!
Kind words! I appreciate you checking it out.
Brilliant review spot on ! Us English pipe smokers appreciate your appreciation! ..................appreciated!

I tend to shy away from aromatic tobaccos, but perhaps sometime in the future.

Three Pipe Problem - Nice! Even when the Gawith blends are as wet as they often are, the extra effort is usually worth it.
Another fine entry to your _Silver Salver_ pipe tobacco reviews.

"Cross-contamination" was my theory as well! I don't find it unpleasant though, and I think it lends the blends a unique quality.
And I notice traces of P.G. Wodehouse in this Fothiringay-Phipps.
Thanks for the review. Great content as usual.

Spot on review. Perfect
Glad you liked it!
Excellent review!
Thank you!
I am wondering how Dunhill's Standard and London mixtures compare to Gawith's Squadron and Skiff mixtures. What differences do you notice?
Bradley, just found this review. Skiff is an old favorite of mine, now unobtainable, as all Sam Gawith tins seem to be. Good review. I think it's absurd in Italy it costs 22 euros.
Excellent review sir!

I bought mine at JR. Cigar in Detroit. I'm guessing it had been there awhile so it wasn't wet. Are there any other Sam G. blends you plan to review?
I should be reviewing "St. James Flake" pretty soon.
Thanks for watching!
Do you plan on reviewing any Savinelli tobaccos? I just got a free tin of the Doblone d'Oro with my new pipe and would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Perhaps. I've had a few people mention them to me. I have a VERY long list of tobaccos to get to though!
Thanks for watching!
All the Sam Gawith blends are really wet. Not sure why. You should try their Balkan Flake when you get the chance....I think you would like it.
Jonathan Sawtell-Gist - I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. Thanks for watching!
Good solid review.
Thanks! It's a good blend. Not sure if It'll unseat one of my other go-to blends, but it's definitely tasty.
I just started switching from aromatics to non aromatics with SG squadron leader, do you think I should try skiff mixture too?
Does anyone know what pipe Brad is smoking? I’m in love with it
It was a little Peterson, but I can't remember the exact model. Thanks for watching!

My older Peterson's smokes very well and one old Aran is one of favorites.
Happy puffings and have s pleasant sunday smoke.
Olle Wahlroos - One thing to consider is that any older pipe will usually smoke drier because the age has let the briar season more.
So true, but this Peterson I mentioned has mainly issues with drilling which is done little bit sloppy.I have 2 year old Savinelli and Brebbbia and those are Premium smokers...any way Peterson's are excelllent pipes.

One which was positive suprise was Brebbia.

Ah, bad drilling is another issue entirely. I'm sorry to hear you had that issue. I've smoked a Chacom and liked it. Never tried a Big Ben.
Ok, I’ve tried this. Mine came delivered nice and humid. But it could still have done with 30 mins of airing. Lovely but not enough of the creosote, coal tar character that I love. But nice, soft and lilting. Being a nicotine bantam weight, the nic was just right for me.

Goldilocks? Nice. It's rare to be able to smoke a Gawith blend as soon as you crack the tin.

Do these tobaccos have the same chemicals as cigarettes

why so wet? their choice, add several grams of water or tobacco to the tin to get to 50g
Skiff is delicious
Love your vids.
what song do you use in your tobacco review videos?
Thanks! That's one of my original songs (available nowhere!). Trying to avoid any copyright issues.

Who knows?! I suppose it's a possibility.
