This should have been called dulcimer lemonade! Ha! Does a dulcimer prefer a certain pick thickness? Thin medium or thick.....
It’s up to you completely. I know players who use very thick and very thin. I’m at a medium currently.
Awesome thanks 👍
oh and FYI - I was playing banjo long before dulcimer. But - I’m getting traction in the dulcimer world, so my focus is indeed shifting (for good reason). AND - I also just made a pick comparison video that will be out soon. You might enjoy that video. 😉
Hi, I'm quite impressed by your style and teaching technique. I've downloaded almost all of your Dulcimer videos and must start my tuition by following your advice. I'm a beginner and am having real trouble getting into the strumming pattern!! I suppose I don't have much rhythm in my body. My problem seems to be that if I hold the pick firmly I catch too many strings and the pattern is horrible and if I hold the pick lightly it flies out of my hands. Actually I find it better with my thumb. If you read this what do you think about the thumb??
Anyway I'll keep on with your tuition and maybe one day I might get the knack. All the best and many thanks for your generous efforts. Regards Mike H.
I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. Practice will help with holding the pick. Also, they make picks that have grippy stuff in the middle.
