Excellent Roadtrek! I've been wanting this feature. Roadtrek def has the best technology of any class B maker. I'd imagine with the 1600 battery pack, 600 watts of solar panels, and voltstart, this is a pretty darn good boondocking vehicle. What is the total height of the vehicle without the roof mounted ac? I may be able to get it in my garage!

I've heard that the fins get dirty too quickly mounted underneath - and would be a particularly bad problem in a 4x4. I'll take the roof-mount.

I don't like all the fine intrigue machinery under the belly. Too much salt and dirt and water on the roads we travel.

    Does anyone use the awning.

With no AC on the roof, what is the height of the vehicle then?

I'm seeing rust problem in the salty roads of Canada in the long run...

My understanding is that these are automotive grade parts, meaning they should hold up just as well as the chassis mounted A/C.

I have seen lots of "automotive grade parts" rust and rot out in a very short time.

A couple of things I noticed. You said it runs on DC power. I don't think that's the case. It probably runs off the inverter which converts from the DC power to 120V. I've heard too many dealers muddy the waters on this and folks assume they have unlimited air conditioning running off the batteries. Running the air through the inverter will drain batteries VERY quickly, depending on the amp-hours of their battery bank. Also, I imagine that it will run off 120V shore power as well. Not too keen on the one air vent. Seems that RT could have put more effort into running vents to other locations for a more evenly distributed air.
Nonetheless it's a nice unit which does leave more room for solar panels. They just need to get rid of the awning now to make it a more stealthy looking vehicle.

Actually this is a 12V system. My understanding is that it has been used for years in Ambulance and transport applications. That is one of the major benefits to this system is that you don't loose the in inefficiencies that commonly occur when inverting 12V to 120. Certainly this will not run forever off your bank of batteries, but with the new lithium battery technology, and the pro air's ability to shut one compressor down, it will run much longer. I am sure that roadtrek could have run a ducting system through the coach, but there is no need. This is like cooling 1 small room.

I guess its much better to remove AC from the RV and just have portable 5000 BTU AC would do much better and consume so much less power from the battery bank. specially the top mounted AC would take space of 4 160 watts panels. Actually you can have 1kw solar panel installed on 22f sprinter with just top mounted fan on the roof.

Tarek Abdel Fatah 5000 btu is like puttin ice inside an oven to cool it down. Not enough power besides, that’s not a logical solution considering the very limited floor space inside class B campers
