- The Tank Trap - This is the event most Top Truck Challenge competitors anxiously await-or dread. The Tank Trap is a quarter-mile-long course designed to force each competitor to fight for every inch of forward progress. The Tank Trap is a standard feature at the Hollister Hills SVRA, but for TTC, it’s modified to our specs using heavy equipment and water. As in previous years, Tank Trap (located in a deep, natural valley) has an approximate 195-foot climb in elevation from start to finish. Due to water restrictions from the 2015 California drought, we had to cut back on the number of water holes, though we use the same numbering system as in previous years. A few yards into the course, competitors have to navigate the 5-foot-deep Water Hole 2. From there, they enter the infamous 100-yard-long “Canyon” that contains steep rock walls in excess of 7 feet in height, slippery steep rock waterfalls, nasty ledges, and generally inhospitable terrain. If they make it through the Canyon, it is onto Water Hole 3 and then a series of deep, slippery, dry climbs and descents. Provided they are still moving, they come fact-to-face with the deep, off-camber “Crevice” before dropping into Water Hole 6 and Water Hole 7.

I love this challenge!!! I was watching this today in study hall at my school and my earbuds weren't in yet so the engine sounds were really loud and i almost got in trouble lol. I just love Motor Trend!
Miss the old TTC, used to watch it on a cd my dad gave me when I was 5. The tank trap used to be much more of a challenged, along with the frame twister.
the 83 Chevy has the best motor out of all of the trucks! That thing is running good and it sounds so mean!!!

A fellow Soldier of mine is outwardly fit looking, good tone, looks fine, but he had injuries to his lungs, stairs can cripple him.
What most would call fat, was a retiring SF Major I served under, he looked like a washed up Mr. Clean, .... the SOB used to run around us... running...

The Tank Trap is supposed to be the toughest challenge, that's why it's last, but every single truck has made it through so far. I remember when seeing one or two trucks finish was asking a lot.

For a second near the end, I was like "where are the other competitors?". Then I noticed this is part 1 of the tank trap, so I am relieved. lol
As for peoples complaints about the host, I don't understand them. He's doing the job fine. People complained he wasn't talking or being interesting enough, this episode he did alot more, and people just complained about him being loud and talking. Isn't that what everyone wanted initially? You people don't know what you want, so leave the host alone. I'm sure they could do a dual-commentator and have Fred or someone join him, but there is no reason to sack the current host, he's not doing anything wrong. I bet more than half of you complaining would make all the tens of thousands of people fall asleep watching this, thinking you could do a better job.
I like the commentator, he's enthusiastic.

honeslty this years top truck has been disappointing, there's not that much variety in the trucks, the camera work is pretty average aswell, also there is a lack of skill too much winching. I still like it but its just been average this year

+zen thecat I think it's just cause they made some parts of the courses way too tough for what they allow for vehicles, like the obstacle course. But i agree with the camera work. As far as trucks, they have a wide variety of suspensions, tires and axles. Of course with the mandatory frame there won't be as much variety cause you can't use a tube-frame but I think it's fair and more of a challenge this way.

There needs to be waaaaaaay more footage of the trucks. Like with all the jump cuts, what the hell is even going on? One second the truck has started the course then the next second 10 minutes has passed and its like we miss all the action.

shouldn't you go slow and steady in the mud? If you accelerate, that wheel spin can sink the car even deeper... Isn't it?
Total noob at this 4x4 stuff, in the beginning the first truck is running propane. What's the advantage? Thanks.
With the steep angles and bouncing it can be hard to keep a carbureted engine running because it starves for fuel. With propane the tanks don't care about position as much so you won't starve for fuel. On some they use fuel injection over propane, but you can sometimes have problems in the tank if fuel gets low.
+Charles Snyder It also helps during steep climbs as the propane gas will still run the engine if it's upside down, so no stalling like a carb or fuel pick-up issues. Way cheaper as well as mentionned below

fuel injection requires electrical and fuel splashes around in the carb. propane is a constant gas without the electrical.
