I was taught this in 1958 by my Finnish grandmother except we do continental style. She called it knitting on the far side. Has worked well for all these years. I did not know any other method existed until someone in Canada pointed out how strange my style was. I do all my colour work this way, not just small items.
Mariane, I fully appreciate the beautiful techniques that have been developed and shared by our European knitters...knitting truly is a universal language! Thank you for sharing😊
Never mind Kelly, I saw someone else asked this same question. 😊 I do a lot of small item clothing for knitted dolls and toys. Lately I’ve been trying 2-3 colour patterns but find it so cumbersome doing the purl side, so adapting it for knitting in the round. This is where I’m finding uneven tension. Is it just a matter of practice? Ugh!
Lacy, I find with my tension I can knit without increasing a needle size. If this is your first try on a sock I might suggest a toe up as you need much less stretch on a foot than a leg (to get over your heel) as a trial knit.
I didn’t...I used two circulars for this aran weight but prefer a 9” circular if using fingering weight. However, I know lots of knitters will knit socks and mittens inside out, especially if you find your colorwork knitting tends to tighten up on small circumferences.
Thankyou Kelly!!! can't wait to try this, will start color work socks this weekend.
This was very helpful. Thank you.
Nicely done I was always curious about knitting inside out. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks Kelly. That was great! Do you also do the hand of the mitten inside out?

Thanks for posting this! Do you still go up a needle size? Like, if I knit socks on 2.25mm, do I go up to 2.75mm or just 2.5mm or not at all?

Kelly, did you knit your whole mittens using this technique?
