Man, I love the Ruger 77/22 all weather 22 hornet. Nothing but precision with the Hornady red tips. It let you know how good you truly are when you have a gun with pinpoint accuracy “every time“ the rest of it is left up to you. Having 100% confidence in your rifle is a great feeling when placing your shot.

Im a hunter of nearly 20 years. My first rifle was a 22lr. But for a hunt on medium game I would say 7mm08. It combines the positive traits from .243 and .308 that they dont share. Although I have no idea if you would be able to source the ammunition or not in your country. .243 would be my go to for an international hunt on most game due to the versatility of the game you can ethically harvest with the wide range of loads available.

I have a pair of Hornets. One is a Browning Micro that I bought the very moment they were released several years ago and the other is a Winchester 1885 Low Wall. The report of that cartridge isn't problematic even without ear protection but I'm curious, what is that thing on the end of your barrel and if it's some kind of silencer, why would you bother to use it? thanks.

    • @bowsgunsrodsreels2282
      @bowsgunsrodsreels2282  3 роки тому +3

Hi yes that is for sure a mute silencer...the reason is my children do also shoot a lot with the rifle and help them not to become (gun-shy) as we then do practice quite often and also this is to keep the surrounding animals calm ...especially when taking down a few animals on one day... I do have a certain load that i use, and when i remove the silencer the rifle needs to be zeroed in again.

@@JOELCONLEY I've shot coyotes with both the .22 hornet and .223 and the .22 hornet is an absolute sleeper round/cartridge for inside a couple hundred yards. It'll drop the coyote dead on the spot every single time with a Winchester super-x JHP. Mine shoots lights out accurate. It's an old anschutz with the most amazing tiger striped wood. Glass bedded with my uncles trigger job. Sold it because he needed money. Also sold me an old anschutz .222 with all the little goodies he's done to it and oh my. You can print a ragged hole in the target with that rifle! I don't care how much faster a .223 rem round is, if it's not hitting its mark, it's useless. I've seen coyotes run so far after getting smoked by a .224 Valkyrie at 100 yards. Like it just zips right through them & doesn't even have time to fragment or anything. Meanwhile my .22 hornet with a JHP just hits em like a freight train inside 150 yards. And that seems to be the standard distance at which I go "oh snapz theres a coyote right there's" . Get yo self a hornet folks!

@@JOELCONLEY oh yah ammo is so hard to find. Isn't any easier in the states and when you do find it in stores,. It's about $50 for 50 so it costs almost as much as a large center-fire round to shoot. At least it's not $70-$80 in stores as opposed to online. I always put 3 boxes away for hunting and just making sure it's on. Too expensive for target shooting. I wish I knew how to reload but I'm happy that factory Winchester ammo shoots so nice through it. Doesn't care for the lighter 30 grain Hornady vmax though.

Using a 22 hornet let you know how good you are. I am batting 1000 with my hornet. Never had one deer take a step with a neck shot. When your rifle hits a dime every time at 100 yards, and I mean every time. That gives you 100% confidence on each shot. If it does not drop, there is no one to blame but you. using that small caliber keeps you sharp on precision hits. I do recommend higher calibers if you doubt your skills as a precision hitter. The gun has the precision, do you have the skills of knowing when to take the animal and how to take the animal. Plus knowing and having the ability to let it walk if the shot is not there.

What I find amazing is the fact that many people discount the lethality of the 22 caliber. In my humble opinion the 22 is probably the best of all the amunition taking into consideration muzzle velocity and drop. Just because a round is small doesn't mean it's less lethal then some of your larger rounds .. The most important thing is shot placement and a skilled Hunter or marks-man can be just as lethal as many military caliber rounds .. it wasn't uncommon to deer hunt with a 22 pre
1960's head shots and heart and lungs were the most common used in the smaller calleber.
From stories passed down the 22 actually did a very good job.. accuracy and penetration were and still are very good. Knowing that the 22 is a smaller caliber it would be advised to give your pray plenty of time to bleed out before you leave your blind or hide .. , so it's the old saying don't catch buck feaver stay put and don't allow your preay to run until they drop the blood trail can be hard to follow with smaller calibers. 20 minutes or more should be plenty of time for your prey to bed down and bleed out..

Some people falsely believe the 22 is to light of a round for hunting deer they are absolutely wrong about that.. it's more important than anything else to have correct shot placement. The 22 is probably the world's most used calleber for a very good reason and I would happily agree with them...shot placement and giving your preay time to lay down and bleed out with a 22 happens every day when an experienced hunter uses the 22. Correctly..

Damn if my prey has to lay down and bleed out that’s not ethical hunting. It should be dead by the time it hits the ground not a slow painful death smh.

Yanks loves their over kill. 22lr can take many large game if needed.
But I think the problem is in the wrong hands small call rifles are dangerous. Hence it trown upon

Love my hornet. I use them effectively on whitetailed deer in the US. With the right load and bullet a body shot within 100 meters is just fine. I shot a 60 kg deer in the heart at 80 meters 2 years ago. Bullet still penetrated to opposite side skin. Of course i take head shots whenever possible. But if need be i am confident up to 100 meters for a heart shot if the animal is perfectly broadside

@@TheMr69roadrunner head shot is the absolute most clean and ethical shot if you are confident in your ability. I shoot a 2 inch group at 500 yards consistently.
Ive killed over 40 deer with my hornet and not one has taken a single step. Body shot or neck shot or head shot. Never even had to track a deer let alone not find one.
Not very many people on the planet with that track record regardless of caliber.
I would never recommend a .22 hornet for someone new to deer hunting or someone that isn't confident in their ability.
But it works for me. And it works very well.

      Its a 50 grain 224 bullet going 2600 fps.
Obviously if its a headshot its from the side. I dont take front on head shots. Again, skill and patience. You do you, and ill continue to do me with my perfect track record so far.

I use the hornet to touch off tannerite in small pill bottles at upwards of 75 yards. Makes for a very precise shot and you never hear the gun itself, only the boom. The .17 will also work but need to be considerably closer
