Leigh tell me how do you buy your clay ? is it in a block or a tube then tell me what size is it ? and the weight ? After you tell me I will reply. eddie.
@@eddiespottery8439 Hi Eddie, I buy it in 12kg bags of blocks, although on weighing it it's not always 12kg. I was wondering and there's probably a simple answer, me not thinking logical as usual lol, how do you know what size gap to leave between the wires for the specific amount of clay you need?
@@handmadepottery2135 Ok I weigh in pounds and ounces, but weight is weight. They are just numbers, The block came out of a pug mill and its always the same size. Just cut longer some times by the pugger. In your case you need one cutter that cuts it into 9 pieces # when you start the cutting it looks like tic tac toe. It turns it into 9 long even slabs. But you would be using 4 wires to do the cutting. # That would make each cut slab only about 6.48 lbs or 2.94 kg. Not sure that would work. I would go to a 2 wire cutting, turning it into 4 long pieces making each into 3Kg. I think I'm putting the cart before the horse and I need to know somthing LOL. What is the size, dimensions measurements of the full block of clay that will give me a better idea on what your working with. I just babbling, let me know the measurements.
@@eddiespottery8439 Thanks for the info Eddie, I will let you know the next time I have a full bag of clay, I may just stick to the kitchen scales, a lot less technical for the likes of me lol, I'm just making random pots at the moment too, not weighing much, but one of those is sure to come in handy when I get back to production pieces. Thanks again.
I'm making frog houses out of extruded 5 foot tall clay pipe. If I made one of those really big I could cut 15 at one time from an extruded pipe. I had two ladies in a pipe sculpture workshop that would have loved this. At the workshop they added so many tools to what they brought they couldn't fit them all in the car to get them home.
⭐This is a fantastic design. ⭐
⭐I need to make something similar for slicing blocks of oil-based clay. ⭐
⭐Thank you for sharing your techniques.⭐
Your welcome Christopher.
There is a 2nd video 4 months before this one.
😳 Grasshopper, that’s above my pay grade!!!
Maybe if you were paid with pounds of clay. Lol.
Very handy Eddie, especially if you extrude your clay.
This is the quickest way I know how to cut clay at the weight you would want.

I truly enjoyed the Lady sculptures that you showed.
Are you using this on pugged clay or bagged clay?
Both, I have new unopened boxes from 2017 & 2018 that have never been opened yet. Only because I don't need to.
