Grunter is the the ultimate fly aimed to catch the trout/grayling before the angler. Ten down to fourteen on the Stillwaters. On the rivers and streams down to a eighteen. One year I was surprised by an early hatch of mayfly. Size twelve grunter did a great job of representing the emerging mayfly. Also can have a partridge fibre tail or different colour in either cdc and or main feather. A true multiple situation all round great addition to the armoury.

    Nice BIG fly Lindsay!!
I'm going to have to improvise on that hot spot(maybe the wife's red nail varnish).
I'll try it on a 12 & 14 too for them tiny wee brownies up north in small rivers/streams.
    Cheers!!
    Keep the vids coming!!

Great looking fly Lindsay. I'll have to whip a couple up to try out this spring. I need to expand my color selections of the resins though. Cheers

Thanks, If you have not got the resins try some Glo-Brite with some clear UV resin over it it does the same job.

Looks a great fly, lots of fish coming to the Grunter on Eyebrook. Would you let me know what type of UV resin you're using. I've looked online but most don't mention the need to cure with a UV torch. Keep up the brilliant work.

Thanks, which part do you mean the hot spot? If so this is from Troutline.ro the hot orange I think.

Hi Lindsay where did you source the hotspot resin....trying to avoid postage from Poland 😜

Hi Craig, I got mine from Troutline.ro with a bigger order. I think Get Slotted may stock it in this country.

Hi Lindsay, As I have said before I too have been experimenting with the pots of gels. I think they are very good but as yet I am not 100% convinced that it will stay on a bare hook as in your tying here. I have some patterns with a spot on the hook and others I have put on a bed of thread and put the dollop of gel on the thread. We will see as time goes on. Atb Jim

Hi Jim, not fished these as yet but if you think that they might not be robust enough I would suggest maybe adding a coat of clear UV resin or varnish maybe.

When did you use the gold wire as a rib I never saw it. Can I suggest you take the red hackle to the bend and rib it with the wire , then tie in your pigs ear (partridge hackle) and finish the fly as you suggest. Cheers Andy
