- A set of tests that compare Superior Drummer 3 SDX load times between a 2015 Intel MacBook Pro SSD and 2021 M1 MacBook Pro SSD. On average the M1 MacBook Pro is around 2.3x faster than the older Intel MacBook.
These tests are intended to give a sense of the speed improvement over multiple years...not necessarily a comparison between the Intel and M1 parts. I hope that it's helpful!
What do you think. Macbook air 8 or 16gb? Also will be running amplitube and ozone for reference mixing, using reaper, and all not optimized for m1... Also tracking 12 tracks at once, to mic my whole drum kit. Would 8gb handle it or 16gb the only way to go?
I haven't tried running SD3 on a MacBook Air, so I can't comment based on personal experience. However, memory is always helpful, especially with such large digital sample libraries, and I would lean towards 16GB for sure.
Did you have to use 'Rosetta 2' to run Superior drummer on the M1?
No. I used the recent native Apple Silicon version for the M1 test.

The good news is that all of the new M1 MacBook Pros should behave almost identically in this situation, so you really can't go wrong.

Yes. The SD3 speed increase should be almost the same across the board, as long as you get the M1 MacBook Pro.
