To pursue an ideal that will end suffering.
Not even realizing that pursuing that ideal leads to suffering.
being justice is suffering
@@pletter64 Sad thing is that, the whole Tarot deck is the journey of life, though some resemble some cards more than others. It means that many if not all of us will pursue an ideal and have to deal with the consequences of that, for good or ill.
@@pletter64 Sounds like my favorite hero/janitor wannabe
@Tum Tum If I had to guess, maybe it has something to do with the two's age difference and the people the two surrounded themselves with. Ken may be an orphan, but he was still only 10-12 years old at the time, and had all of S.E.E.S with him, meaning he had way more time and a bigger chance to move on past his trauma and become happy than akechi, who was 18 years at the time of persona 5 and let himself be consumed by his single minded desire for revenge agains shido, not allowing himself to form any meaningful connection with others, letting his superficial detective persona be the only thing people would connect with, he's literally a wild card with no social links or confidants outside of joker. No matter how you slice it, akechi's story was probably going to end in tragedy and not a happily ever after. Wich may be why she was so desperate with akechi at least getting something real for once in his life outside of his hatred, happines. So yeah, her reaction to Ken being more tame compared to akechi is probably because akechi was doomed for a bad end while Ken had a chance at good one. But that's just my two cents
Death doesn't wait for anyone. It doesn't wait for you to "finish your character arc", overcome your guilt, or tie up all your loose ends. It can come for anyone at any time. And unfortunately... some people just aren't given enough time.
I don't know if that's a quote from something or wholly original, but regardless that's really well said.

I binge watched several of your persona videos recently so it's really surprising to find you on another video like this
I love how In Persona 3 each of your teammates get a second awakening after you reach to a certain part of the narrative, rather then from maxing out there confidant levels.
I honestly hope that Atlus brings that back for Persona 6
part of the reason this works is because their stories aren’t linked to social links. in p6 they would have to make some changes if they wanted to make it work.
I would love to see a mix between P3 and P4/P5 style of awakenings in the next game (or in P3 Remake because why not lol):
Every teammate has an SL, but there's a certain point where you can't Rank Up until they did their 2nd awakenings for story reasons, and finally, when you max out their SL's on the last month of the game if you talk to them they will gain their 3rd awakening ala P4G/P5R
EDIT: OH FUCK REMAKE IS HAPPENING PLEASE ATLUS
And also the only game where the party members actually progress their stories by themselves or with another party member. Unlike in P4 or P5 where they need the MC to progress.

@@dilucragnvindr6397 Ya i wondered why too. When I first played (hell, even still now), I was sad that I lost a party member, not the character.
The movies they spend a good chunk of time building a relationship between Shinji and Ken, so Ken figuring out it's Shinji and Shinji's subsequent death is all the more heartbreaking.
Mh-hm, they really handled that great.
I honestly prefer how the game plays it out. The Movie may develop their relationship, but it's also extremely cliche in its relationship. A kid so obsessed with revenge he'll join a group and plan a murder-suicide for so long feels stronger than "the person I liked turned out to have done the bad thing to me" and also makes Ken's forgiveness more powerful.
I guess it just depends on what aspects you want to see from this part of the story.

Absolutely agree with the second awakenings. Having them be part of the story is such a nice touch, and it keeps the characters growing throughout the entire adventure. P5 is my favorite, but I think it would have been so much better if they did the second awakenings like this. Akechi's awakening to Hereward sort of had the right idea, but I think this game does it better.
Persona 3 is without question the most emotionally draining & darkest game of the Persona series, however I do think that it actually benefits with the dark mature setting instead of the typical JRPG setting.
Almost every single character is perfectly well written, the combat is challenging but fair, And the Narrative is dark and interesting at the same time.
P2 exists you know. You're also riding p3 a little too much.
@@jorjorbanks8876 no, and neither does atlus

Ok can we just acknowledge the fact that nanako and ken are some of the youngest characters in the series and are more mature than half of the grown-up characters
I think is because both of them were forced to grow up due to circumstance.
Also they are the Justice Arcana
Every Justice Arcana character except is brown haired and has a dead mom,but reacted differently in a way that made their lives worse
Ken almost went down a Self-Destructive Path of revenge
Nanako grew up too fast
We all know what Akechi did
If you looked at Shinji's equipment, he had a bullet proof vest on him... guess he forgot that in that scene
I like to think Takaya was using a Pierce skill
Fun fact: Ken’s arcana is Justice
Bruh, not only do you look like Chihiro (specially with glasses) you'd simp like that Tsundere style if Akechi was real.

"P3 can't take me down!"
oh no...
"P3 ain't gonna get me down!"
*five minutes later she's crying her eyes out*
Been waiting for this episode...
Rewatching this episode reminds me how much I loved P3’s handling of social links and character development. Part of the problem with having the entire party as social links in 4 and 5 is that they couldn’t have major character change in the story once they joined you. And their social links couldn’t have them change in a fundamental way either. It basically forces the characters to be mostly stagnant throughout the main narrative because the game couldn’t be sure if whether the player did their social links or not. It’s actually shown to a smaller degree in 3, where the girls, while having arcs, aren’t given the same sweeping changes that the boys are. While Yukari does mature and change, it’s in no way to the degree of, say, Junpei or Ken, who are dramatically changed by the events of the story. I think P3P is the best middle ground the series had in terms of this balance, since the party member social links solely involved their relationship with the MC, while their deeper changes were still obviously left to the narrative.
While the cast of P4 is my favorite in the series, P3’s characters are better developed over the story, and each actually matters throughout the game’s whole arc. That’s something you really can’t say about 4 or 5. They grapple with actual difficult problems, and these aren’t just things that the main character is able to fix by hanging out with them 10 times. People die, world views are challenged, truths are revealed, and the characters are forced to change. It’s more dynamic and interesting, as opposed to having the cast devolve down into pretty girl, goofy art boy, loud delinquent kid, and cinnamon roll rich girl. I know the cast of 5 does have more depth, but their characters arcs are basically over once they join you. It sucks. You are able to spend time with them and help them overcome some personal problems, but it can’t change them or effect the main plot. Ann can’t ever utilize her new confidence. Ryuji can’t grow past his guilt. Because you could just ignore their extra development. It just sucks.
Long rant over. You get my point.
Part of the reason why Persona 3 is my favorite. I like how the mc including femc isnt really that special and the second awakenings shown that they can grow and move on as their own. It's really and great and interesting though
As that is true, most of the development is bad tho, at least compared to p2. Mitsuru barely changes in the story (while her real development is in her social link) Fuuka has the same problem, expect worse. Yukari also barely changes. The males development were so much better than the females, but they suffer from no social link. Ken has good development, but he suffers from no social link + the blandest personality. Aki is great, but again no social link. Junpei would be great if he wasn't the one-man comic relief character. Aigis was the only character who i actually cared about. She had nice development plus a social link to make me like her more.
I love that she uploaded this on the 4th of october in particular. Rip shinji

15:40 Completely agree. It's much better to have the second awakening being a part of the story. Not only their development feels more natural, this way the characters are still relevant even late game, something the other games struggle a bit.
This.
Yes this! I really like how they grown as a better character by their own
@@carissaap7003 And the relationship between the characters as well, at first they're not that tight but over the course of the game they gradually come to undestand one another. The mistrust Yukari has for Mitsuru, Jumpei's Jealousy of the MC, how distant Mitsuru is, the whole thing with Shinjiro and Ken, stuff like this is missing from 4 and 5, in those they just love each other as soon as they join the group, bff's forever!
This is why 3 still has my favorite cast, the journey from their mistrust in the beginning to their friendship in the end is much more believable. Now if only Tartarus didn't suck ass this would be the perfect game!
Btw I don't hate 4 and 5, love them just as much. (Ok, maybe 4 not that much) I'm just highlighting what 3 did better. (sorry for the unsolicited wall of text)
@@CFjimmy yeah people said their relationship are like coworkers well that is true but that is only the beginning. As the story progress their relationship is also progressing to become better and closer. And like you said, Yukari from being not trusting mitsuru became quite close to her. Junpei's jealousy became respect towards mc. They share the same goal of wanting to end the dark hour as well. I like that kind of relationship it just shown that things needs progress and not like P4 who they immediately became best friends. Even P5 has development on their group dynamic but not as much as P3
I dont think tartarus sucks. Its just plain boring and repetitive.
@@carissaap7003 Yeah people who gave this "they're just coworker" critism really didn't paid attention to the game.
About tarturus, of the "modern trilogy" it's clearly the weakest dungeon. It's way to long and repetitive and drags the pacing hard. I like the concept, and how the song adds more instruments and get more intense as you climb it up but it's still the same song and the same place, it gets tedious really fast. 4 did it better by having different dungeons with different themes and fewer floor but the RNG dungeons are still boring as fuck. Palaces are much better and should be the standards moving on, but maybe next don't have the characters interrupting all the time to say obvious shit, ok Atlus?
A character who is with you for one dungeon who dies to a gunshot wound sacrificing himself to save someone he cares about..... why does that sound familiar? He also is very moody, hates his persona, using it, and what it stands for, and has a certain familiarity with food..... hmmm, can’t think of anything.......
yeah there's the sadness and despair of the justice arcana that ken belongs to. Persona 3 is the saddest of the persona series :(
I've been broke both emotionally and Angrily.
Emotionally: Anything involving the persona franchise.
Angrily: Trying to beat games on their hardest difficulty.
0:53
She's in boyz
She did it
She said it
**Air horns**
That's the thing I really love about Persona 3. It's really sad and depressing for so much of the game. Everyone is broken in some way, and they've all got so much baggage. Death and despair are ever-present theme, and they're being constantly thrown in your face. Between 3, 4, and 5, 3 is by far the darkest in tone and theme.
But the game isn't hopeless. Yeah, shit gets tough and hard, and there's failure in so many steps along the way, but it also constantly reinforces that sitting down and doing nothing but stew in your own self-deprecation and helplessness doesn't solve anything. It's accepting the negatives and not allowing it to hold you back from real development that wins out, and you're rewarded in game for it. Everyone gets their persona awakening by bucking up, looking ahead, and moving forward.
That's why the major phrases for this game is Memento Mori, which is roughly translated to "Remember that you are mortal
I think it fully translates to "Remember that you will die." So you're not very far from the definition.
P5 P4 : ITS COOL!! HAPPINESS!! FRIENDSHIP POWAAH!!
P3 : ITS REAL LIFE AND DEPRESSION
P2: p3 but worse
You are missing the whole point of the games. All of them represent real life. Life isn´t only depression and death. It has happiness, sadness, corruption, ppl who can´t accept themselves, hate, envy, friendship... too. Each game give us a lesson.
Honestly, when I first watched that scene on October 4, I never really cried to it since I never knew Shinji. But when I watched that with CrystAAHHL, for some reason I cried with her during that stream. The whole second awakening thing is actually relevant in how it differs between games, as in P4 Arena, all the P4 characters all have their tier 1 personas even though they should have experienced their second awakenings, meanwhile all the P3 characters have their tier 2 personas. The reason behind why this is the case is cause all the P4 cast had their second awakenings due to their bond with Yu, and when he moves away, their bond weakens, causing their personas to revert to their original form. Meanwhile the P3 cast experience their second awakening as a part of their personal growth as a person, and therefore is not something they would easily lose, and why they all have their tier 2 personas, unlike the P4 cast.

The moment when Shinjiro dies is when everyone begins to mature and see the danger that STREGA poses. Akihiko's awakening is also one of the most powerful awakenings in persona -(next to Junpei)-. Ken's lesson is probably the most valuable in that you shouldn't consume yourself with hate in order to get revenge. I think Arthur Morgan said this best, "Revenge is a fools game. When I die, don't turn back." Its amazing how games with different genres can have very like philosophies. There's a lot of powerful moments in Persona but most especially stem from persona 3. I think the end is something that most people can relate to. An end of a movie that was really good, the end of a breakup that ended badly, the death of someone who you loved... to me this game touched on a lot of things that happened in my life. It hurts even more when characters like Shinji that die, that feel like people I would enjoy having in my life would die. I legit cried over so many characters knowing that in the game I meant a lot to them. It's hard to ignore depressing themes like this, because we're so used to focusing on negativity most of the time that we forget to enjoy the moments that lasted the most. There's a lot of moments like that like the time I got married to Hanged (I'm not joking that actually happens in the story) or the time that I laughed at Kenji for simping over the teacher that was leaving randomly because she was getting married. Or the time I reversed Bebe by accident by forgetting that I was going to hang out with him on the weekend and I broke my promise and stood him up because I forgot. It's easy to forget memorable moments like that in return for a date like 10/5 -(or 3/5... If you know... you know...)-
Back to the topic, Shinjiro is the moon arcana in your team. Shinji never really talks about the moment he killed Ken Mother and it's clear he regrets it with him trying to suppress his persona. I like to think at the end, it was Shinjiro showing who he really is. Shinjiro is a good guy, but people also rip on Ken saying he's a bad character. Just because he killed Shinji and after this doesn't offer much to the plot. But Ken is actually a REALLLY good fighter in tartarus. Ken gets light spells as well as Zio spells which is good for the later blocks. He also gets Diarhan (I hope I spelt that right😬) which is a good thing to have at the last fight. Ken is a good kid, and you can see that if you talk to him on nights where he's there in the lobby. He's a lot more at peace and calm as he knows that he has to end the dark hour in order to avenge Shinjiro and his Mom. He knows that THIS is what they both wanted. That's why Ken is a good character. And that's why I like 10/4 and 10/5 so much. Because after that you sense the difference and determination in both Aki and Ken. Which also gives meaning to the song Living with determination. Its themes like these that make Persona 3 my favorite game out of all of the Persona games as well as my favorite game of all time.
Anyways, that's enough of my mini rant.
Yeah i dont get the whole hate on Ken. Just like she said he's more mature than 90% people of the internet but more like he act like an adult rather than being a kid. He's so mature and calm in his age and he realized what he did wrong in just a day. You don't get to see that often in a little kid
Yes he did want to get revenge but that is because he doesn't know the full story. But after that he grew as a better person like everyone else in SEES
@@carissaap7003 I've even seen people say they dislike Ken only because they don't use him in tartarus and see him getting his revenge on Shinji as a reason to hate him. Some people even wished DEATH on Ken saying that Ken should've just killed himself. Which is very hypocritical. Bigklingy the person who I watched for my first playthrough of p3, talked about it more in depth.

Yeah fuck those people leave ken alone. He's just a kid and he already went through so much. Ever since he joined the team i always use him since his attacks are powerful and the people who did that probably didnt understand his situation at all. Also Shinji's death is not Ken's fault
I can't say I hate him, but man he's boring like most of the cast. After shinji dies, Ken is just.....there for the rest of the game. He does nothing and has no social link to make it worse. Even if he has better development than all of the girls on the team, he's relevance to the story and bland personality are two major set-backs.
Shinji death always gets to me, shinji was a real man.
It's so funny to me the fact that the last video was "I love this man" and now he's *BOOM* ded.
I like how the date the video was uploaded is the day before October 4th where Shinji you know what (not gonna say any spoilers for anyone reading the comment section instead of watching video)
Persona always be doing this stuff the feels 😭😭😭
Ah yes, here comes the depression. All according to our overlords Atlus's plan.
I remember playing through this game and getting to Shinji’s death- it was emotional right until I heard ‘come on kid you’re just a kid’ and I had to put my fucking controller down I was laughing so hard
