The uncontrollable ones Robert exact same happened to me at 15 could only just get down a black (french alps) but at 16 I could easily and quickly get down the hardest runs in the resort
His feet probably had just stopped growing so he finally got to try on the cruel shoes... a plug race boot and a good boot fitter who knows how to torture racers feet. the uncomfortable GS race was all about bad boot syndrome. Once he's poured into his shells he can begin to trust his good choices and trust his equipment to perform for him. Strength, stamina and focus increase with age so a move to competitive events will be more rewarding.
The anonymity adds to it. Anyone can say “you need to adjust your rotation by 0.1 degree and use your inner thigh stomach tricep to turn better” or on some 45 degree slope video “looks like a green”
I just turned 17 and I have the EXACT same story as your son! I even met Ted Ligety the same year! I currently live in the East Coast in the States but am a native born Brit. If you ever take a gander over here feel free to contact!
It don't matter what age he got equipment, what matters is he stuck with it. I was a middle placing youth racer and quit to pursue other things but I still love skiing!
The last year his balance improved leaps and bounds. And you are right, we may not always be the model for ski Technic but having fun is still the best part.
Good job. In my humble opinion you can work on this: try to avoid moving forward the inside ski too much finishing the turn this results in a rotation in the hips. Shoulders always parallel to the ground, try to avoid leaning inside at the end of the turn. And last, the center of gravity of your body should never bring the weight on your heels but on the whole foot. Ankles always closed as much as possible. During the transition from the edges of the previous turn to the next turn in the beginning of the turn you need to move forward your center of gravity in order to bring immediately more force to the outside ski and bending the skis better during the turn. This will give you more speed and this way you can shorten the curve radius also with the long gs skis
There are some more points to add. He gets the most pressere onto the skies before the gate and not next to it, so he oftentimes needs to correct the turn.
As a ski racer, I thank you for making a video on our sport. If you dont mind, id like to give you a little tip. Try to ski less with your legs and more with your upper body. Youre turning with the legs but I suggest you try moving your mass forward between the gates. Try to also put some emphasis on the up- down movement but try to avoid creating it with solely your legs.Create this up down movement by angulation and your knees. Be careful though: we I started practicing this, I was bending my back too much and it was messing up my position. I went trough the same problem when I was 15 because I was suddenly growing and my center of gravity was deplaced. I fixed it quick and it changed everything. Great video bro. Cheers for Canada and see you on the world cup!
I started skiing 2020 end of Janurary with 3 weeks of season left that is 3 sessions left for the weekends. The wife and I got two lessons and then our instructor told us we are good enough to go to the top of the mountain and ski down. We were not but because once you get to the top the only way is down after two bunny hill days and one session we got tricked into by instructor then another since we said since we are here. The season ended. I started watching Triggerboy62 until the ski season started. Triggerboy62 instructional videos are the best out there in terms of explaining how to carve and what carving is. I went from green to blue in one day with only the previous 3 ski sessions. After two weekends I started carving blacks on our first actual ski season in 2020 December. By end of season I am comfortable going down double blacks and any regular black diamond on the regular at at pretty good speeds usually 35 to 45 mph. I can not express how good of a coach these guys are. Love You @Triggerboy62!

Hi, the main reason for this video is to show that Chris developed into a great ski racer quite late in his teens opposed to the common belief that you need to be at the top as young as six to ten years old. You don't, and this video proves it. However, Chris started early and just skied and had fun. And you can do that too. You can become as good as anybody that started at a very young age. People may be saying how u r doing this and that wrong and you definitely have things to work on (we all do) but that’s pretty good skiing. Out of curiosity what club are you with?
Great video and good progression! Two very important things that you have to work on: more weight on the downhill ski especially when you are making turn to the right so on your left leg and a little bit more attention on your upper body. That mistakes came from the early ages. Good Luck!
"Two very important things that you have to work on: more weight on the downhill ski especially when you are making turn to the right so on your left leg and a little bit more attention on your upper body." Agree. Right hand and leg stronger in Chris' GS turns. Left hand semms to fly up and/or back. Not a lot but body/turn strength not symmetrical. Thanks for the great video. Keep on skiing with JOY!
Hi, your hips and your back is inside duringthe curve, your weight must be on the downhill ski. You can try and ski on one leg, the right one for a left turn and the other foot for the right turn, you will fell it and your weight will be on the good side. If you want more angle, start the turn and throw your feets (no pressure nothing bout your weight) and facing the downhill putt maximum pressure on the outside ski. Hope you understand, my english is not so good. Take care (wiv your knees)
Nice skiing (but you have to keep that upper body pointed down the hill haha)! I just got new boots this year, it’s amazing what the jump from 100 to 140 flex can do haha.
I found this video very interesting. I want ask you some questions: Are the slopes in finland steep? Can a guy who skis 10 day / one week reach that level of skiing?
Going a week a year I don’t think you can reach the level of a 16 years old kid that has done ski school all his life :/ Specially at the end when he’s getting bigger and getting muscles and weight
Pretty good carving technique. You developed your skills well, but a little slow. In Austria for example, most kids making the A-teams start at 2-3 and reach that level at 12 years of age.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, its normally like that here were we live as well. However, Chris lost interest in racing early on and fell for the dredded freestyle stuff. Then he came to his senses but a little late. So he developed quickly but far too late. On the other hand, he loves skiing and learned lots in freestyle and is therefore quite good at GS and SG. Most of the "good" skiers at early age dropped out due to various reasons. Mostly got tired of all the hazzle. Playstation is easier.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. The good news are it is never too late to start skiracing. Maybe you will never race at wc level but you can race at your own level whatever that will be. And its fun to train and that you can do with any level racers at clubs and camps all over the world.
@@Triggerboy62 Your reponse interests me a lot ! I am now 21, I did a lot of training when I was 14/18, but because of the study I had to stop during 3 years, but I miss it so much. As someone that has taught to 2-3 year olds, I have this to say to parents: PLEASE WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE 4 or 5. They do not have the strength in their legs yet. Please spare ski instructors from the hell that is toddler skiing
At my mountain we always joke that you should start kids as soon as they can stand. My kids will be skiing before they can walk haha. and don’t worry I will be teaching them. Just hook them up with a harness and some straps and point them down the hill. I have seen it work for many people haha

People may be saying how u r doing this and that wrong and you definitely have things to work on (we all do) but that’s pretty good skiing. Out of curiosity what club are you with?
Thanks.... ski club is Fjällskidarklubben -37 (FK-37)
Love the off-piste footage.
Levi
Triggerboy62 come to levi this winter vacation
3:30 everyone had those pair of skis (head mojo) ps: me too
Hahaa... nice that you spotted them. We had them like forever :)
Be the best bro~
When u were 3 u were better then most skiers i need to go behind...
He skied better at 6 than I ski now
Great video and good progression! Two very important things that you have to work on: more weight on the downhill ski especially when you are making turn to the right so on your left leg and a little bit more attention on your upper body. That mistakes came from the early ages. Good Luck!

Agree. Right hand and leg stronger in Chris' GS turns. Left hand semms to fly up and/or back. Not a lot but body/turn strength not symmetrical.
Thanks for the great video.
Keep on skiing with JOY!
Awesome story!
Thanls :)
He’s wearing a chin bar on GS. Jus needed to say that
Yes, I know. But back then Chris did not have a GS helmet :(
Cool video dude
This is great! Keep going, I believe!
Congratulations on your win in Alta Badia. What have you been up to since?

Awesome
Hi, your hips and your back is inside duringthe curve, your weight must be on the downhill ski. You can try and ski on one leg, the right one for a left turn and the other foot for the right turn, you will fell it and your weight will be on the good side. If you want more angle, start the turn and throw your feets (no pressure nothing bout your weight) and facing the downhill putt maximum pressure on the outside ski. Hope you understand, my english is not so good. Take care (wiv your knees)
I noticed that your race courses are pretty small which interests me
Nice skiing (but you have to keep that upper body pointed down the hill haha)! I just got new boots this year, it’s amazing what the jump from 100 to 140 flex can do haha.
3:38 that snow thoooo
I found this video very interesting. I want ask you some questions:
Are the slopes in finland steep?
Can a guy who skis 10 day / one week reach that level of skiing?
Going a week a year I don’t think you can reach the level of a 16 years old kid that has done ski school all his life :/
Specially at the end when he’s getting bigger and getting muscles and weight
Awesome 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
What are the ski race that you use? Does it make sense to use racing skis for very good amateur?
We are using race skis but regular carving skis are probably better for you.
I wish my parents put me into ski racing as a child. I love skiing, but I feel like I've fall so far behind.
Now I have the feeling that it is too late for me, and I don't know what races I can do, I have ask to two ski monitors, and both said that I can become a monitor too, but they did not know any races that you can do being an adult and not a pro.

I have seen it work for many people haha
great to se how he evolved over the years, and has become an amazing racer.
Does he have an Atomic deal, or is he still looking for his first sponsors/partners?
great, may i send a pm about some potential sponsorships?
You haven't opent the privat messege option, so can i send an email or something else?
