Just wanted to wish you and your family a very happy Christmas James and thanks for the videos throughout the year, really enjoy watching. Best wishes for the new year, Gerry
To be honest if I was buying that type of vehicle chances are it’s a long way away as they are few and far between. I think a check would be a sensible option to make sure it runs and drives as it should with no major defects that a mot might not pick up. Bought a defender years ago , all appeared good. Turned out engine was using water, and once the coating was scraped back on the chassis it was found to be full of holes. Engine turned out to have a slipped cylinder liner. But car had a clean MOT. So in same situation again I would get an inspection done for some piece of mind.
Having an inspection done is not a reflection on you personally, But the second hand business as a whole, too many dodgy dealers. If there is nothing wrong with the car and she wants to pay for an inspection, It gives her peace of mind and increases your reputation as an honest dealer, You both win.
James on the Vauxhall you should have spoken to Lee of CAR UK as he replaces many things on these cars regularly to save claims post sale. Your videos show how honest you are in dealing with people and cars you deal with. Enjoy your Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2025.
That woman with the jeep could just be an eccentric Aunty with money to spare buying a Xmas prezzie for her favourite nephew/niece who has just passed their test……..
Distance sell and wanting the car, before Christmas, if it is a Christmas present why leave it so late? Love the fact you invoice the transport costs separately. Have a good Christmas James.
I've had some guys today on a solid midget I'm selling, it's up a 1500 quid, it's actually on the road, t reg 1979 (!) they were all over it, it's had some patches underneath, well it's arguing about a 45 year old mg thats had welding, I'm only looking at 1500 quid, good mechanics. I just stopped talking and looked into the sky, they started looking up, what you looking at he says, I said I'm looking for a flying pig, as you've got more chance in seeing one than an mg that's not been welded, ha,ha.
I hope the jeep sale works out and she is realistic with expectations on condition and any faults that may occur however, time will tell. Merry Christmas To You All 🎄
I once took a mechanic friend to look over a japanese import Beemer as a precaution. The garage were a bit iffy until my friend said if you don't buy then I will. Had it 6 years.
Let's not be negative, the lady has had it inspected and its come back as a solid jeep bar some recommendations.which you have agreed to do the underside but nothing else.and she has agreed to purchase it . Simple as . She's being cautious because it's her hard earned money.would people do the same? Happy Christmas James and heres to 2025 !
Scraping and under sealing in this weather in the winter is not good on you and not good on the vehicle because can't get it 100 % dry on the metal or air dried properly. Good luck. Seasons greetings to you.
Those inspections can be a menace. There's a particular kind of person who doesn't understand that the ten-year-old car with 120k on the clock is a collection of worn, used parts. The inspection takes place and they immediately lose interest because of a long list of "worn" parts (every part is worn on every used car) or they expect £1000 off a car already £1000 below book AND an extended warranty OR the dealer to put thousands into sorting out all the "problems" with the vehicle before they'll "think about it".
@stefanobio7045 I only do about 2500 miles in it per year so annually for me. Pre mot the front and rear subframes were looking a bit crusty that's why I used it.
@@tuktukmike Ok yes as your only completing a small amount of mileage one application of lanoguard per year is fine, I suggest applying just before the winter.........
Nothing wrong with pre purchase inspections. Plenty of dealers which sell cars with known issues or without any inspection done by them. Why buy somethig with major issues and then go through fixing the problems and being without a car.
@@ChopsGarage I'm talking about here in Australia, don't know how it is in England. For example, here in Australia they get a car as a trade in, don't inspect it and sell it as it is.
Arthur Daily, what are you 90?!? 🤣 Reference to a 70s TV show is how far back you have to go for example of dodgy car dealer that is actually fictional 🤣🤣
I'd have just put some silicone rtv on that original housing gasket bud, it'd be free and you'd not have had sealing problems. It's great that you did the box in house, credit to you both.
Good buys off the two subscribers there. Would be interesting to know how bad the red bumper is under street lighting as bright red paint repair stand out like sore thumb. All the best James for you and your family have hopefully a great break and a prosperous 2025
Its a great old car that jeep. It could be a summer car as is. It could be restored at a cost and be stunning. Or it could be a work horse and grafted to death. Either way its really cheap for what it is
My Dad years ago told me that an inspection on an older car will find so many things wrong that you would never buy it. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't suit your own needs if you have some mechanical knowledge and mechanical empathy to understand what you are buying. The problem is I doubt that buyer has those skills.
This channels opened up a whole new world into the insight of OTT customers to me....who looks for a car (and seemingly a collector rather than a daily) on the 21st Dec and says they want it fully prepped and delivered by xmas? Even if its a xmas present you dont leave it till 4 days before.... Im also sat here waiting for her to return it for some silly little reason so its just as well youve invoiced transport separately......i would video the prep of the underside too. Loving the daily content btw but feel sure you put a video out not long along ago saying you was reining back on the number of videos you was putting out......maybe I am thinking of a different channel.
Sorry but that Jeep sale has red flags all over it, I know it's a sale but I have a feeling your going to regret selling to her. Selling to someone distance sale that hasn't even driven the car and that wants it in a rush before Christmas, I can see you getting done over by this. Just call it intuition, sell locally to someone who knows what they are actually buying. This is obviously just my opinion 😊 Hope you all have a great Christmas 🎄 ❤
I struggle to comprehend the need to waste money on the inspection when it has been honestly described. Asides from such you are a very honest upfront trader as can be seen from your videos. I may be looking for a car next year and I might buy from yourself.
Just to chip in my bit. I don't allow inspections from the AA / RAC - they compare the car to effectively brand new condition. This is worn, that is worn, that has corrosion, clip missing, etc, etc. The report is therefore a long list of expensive sounding POTENTIAL issues on an older car. I don't mind a proper mechanic giving up his time for a friend and having a good look at it though - I have nothing to hide. I once had a lady not buy a car because the automatic window down feature on the driver side didn't work - she thought that was dangerous in escaping from accident and nothing I could say would dissuade her.
Just looked at mot history mate and loads of issues in 22,then nearly clear this year, no test in between, obviously had welding done. Tbh if your dudes are strict your going to have a problem, all those advisories can't have been done as it wasn't tested after the fail. I'd have deffo got it motd before advertising it, then you'd have had 2 clear passes and it would have looked better, perils of very old cars mate, the way your situated I'd draw a line at say 60 plate, older stuff is trouble, as youve found, y reg is a bit out with the ark mate.
If they was all advisory’s and it didn’t fail it wouldn’t need a test again until 2023 in that time they might have been fixing the list of advisories then put it in again this year so might have not been ready for a test in 2023 if it was off the road for fixing advisories if the list is as long as you say
Inspectors are paid to criticize. Therefore they will always cover themselves by advising caution. I can inspect this great value jeep from 200 miles away and I’d advise caution… because the vehicle has flaws… how’s that… £500 please 😅
the Jeep TJ is basically build the same way as the WWII Willys Jeep a few bolts and a forklift and the bode and fra are seperated just ask Dennis Collins
She should be telling you why she wants the Jeep, give you some context, allow you to qualify her. Its a niche car though so im not surprised you didnt tell her to sling it like some people are saying.
A lot of people think because they're in the AA the inspections are free, they usually don't bother when they find it's not, various t and Cs as well, age, mileage, level of inspection, I go for the fresh advisory free mot, comprehensive video, fresh service and that puts most peoples mind at rest, I'd have shutzed or waxoyld prior to advert, I mean on about the body coming off, gosh (!)
I privately sold many years ago my then mint vw bora 1.9 tdi 130, slightly modified guy came with his bird, loved it i took deposit he went away, contacted me to say he has booked rac inspection …….. what a ball ache that was. The cheek of the RAC at the time was i was to take the car to them being 30 miles away to a kwik fit dealer to do what the tool could have done outside my house, mobile service they provide with company vehicle yet i have to waste my time and do 60 mile round trip for a bafoon to imo be very very hashy with my car 😮 massive piss take imo and never again. Guy paid a big fee for a waste of time and told him so 😂 he apologised for booking it 😂 thats fine i said any knock down slightly on price that you may have gotten from me is out the window for my time and fuel now 😂
I'd have thought as it's been seen by her representative it's classed as been seen. On that jeep you should have done mot as probably last test rust was mentioned and or failed, if you'd have had advisory free and maybe waxoyl you might have had no issues, plus it could have gone St out.
It’s another Toyota sale, remember the one with the spare wheel cover? I would just refuse to sell it to her unless she made the effort to view it in person. Britain isn’t so big you can’t get around. As far as a distance sale I was u def the impression that if you don’t pay in person via any method it is a distance sale. If she ain’t happy with it all she can do is take it up with the two that viewed it and than claim a refund within 14 days as per distance sale rules. Over 30 yers ago I worked for British Rail and we could sell tickets over the phone, they were all classed as distance sales as the customer was not present when the transaction was made.
I love them Suzuki Vitara's 1.6 petrol is the one to get, they are just starting to come into my price bracket. You will do well with that one James 👍👍 In the last 2 weeks I have ordered proXL and that bumper product on the back of your recommendations 😁😁
James 5 mins you say you love Suzukis, l do too, hence my thought that your first proper bike should be a Suzuki GSX-R. Makes anything else seem either pretentious, slow, or both!!!!
Hate that blue on the RAV 4, only blue for me car wise, is a dark blue. Still to each their own, my mate who was a car dealer would never buy green cars as he said they were hard to sell, some folks consider green an unlucky colour apparently, who knew ?
The build Quality of those Jeeps and Chrysler's is unbelievably bad as is the price of the parts in the UK.Just thinking about her brings back bad memories of working on them especially the interior trim which just falls apart in your hands, They make Fiats which now owns them look well built which says it all.
I dont blame the customer , as there are far to many car sales dealers that are Dodgy , she will get a report that will asses the vehicle condition , and will know what to expect next MOT or what to repair next . we all know its easy to get a border line MOT , with out Advisory's. I certainly dont trust car sales people at all , i have worked in the motor trade all my life , mostly at the higher end but seen far too many Dodgy cars that customers have had from small garages .
Your are correct but it’s still a good idea for the buyer as they will have a better idea of what they are getting, £500 seems far too steep, When I was selling my car privately I would have been pleased to have it inspected, then I can’t be accused of misleading the buyer. It should save Mr Chops hassle down the line. I am assuming known faults accepted at time of sale would not be under any comeback, right or wrong?🙂
@ChopsGarage they never want to pay for a proper one, I always just sound really positive with them as you know it's not going to happen. Had an e type for sale and the customer flew a guy in from Ireland, he was nuts, started telling me you couldn't get panels and they had to be specialy made, Martin robey does everything, I told him to buzz off back to Ireland.
@Mortalrecordz yes, tbh I think it's it's the mpg that'll kill the deal, I had one and 20 quid got me 25 miles, I actually think a jensen interceptor I had was slightly better, plus tax is 415,people don't like that. James wants to stop getting involved with old stuff like that, I know he initially bought it for his wife tho. People want brand new condition these days, cheap tax, good mpg all at a cheap price, he could have sold 4 i20s in the time he's messed about with this jeep. Laws all against you these days with old rusty stuff. Hope it works out, but as you say loads of red flags.
I'd stress to her the fuel consumption, you don't want it coming back because it's thirsty, people are used to 40 to 50 mpg these days, it's a real shock to run a 10 mpg thing, I know bud I've had one, I once sold a women a 3 ltr jag s type, she'd had a corsa before, she was back in a few days moaning, those jeeps are even worse
You know she's trouble . I did a job for a woman and I just knew she wouldn't think i did a good job if i was cheap so i charged her 300 euro for 3 hours work and she was delighted, she also minted, would never rip off poor people.... bit like someone paying lots for a sofa, they have it in their head it's good because it's expensive 🙄👍🇮🇪
Sorry James, the distance selling rules are clear on who the consumer is (the person buying the car) and they have not seen it at your premises. The fact that they have paid for an inspection isn't equivalent to them seeing the jeep themselves, much though we'd all like it to be.
Imho obviously you'll let the inspection after all it's her money and choice. If the inspector offers you a copy just throw it in the bin preferably as he watches. Then just sit back and wait for her next move which is to buy or not. No doubt she could possibly ask for any listed to be sorted if you accept her terms and she buys it fair enough but I think if she does buy it it wont be the last time you'll see it.
hello I want to buy Opel Corsa E 1.4 90 hp 2018-2019 with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. is this car reliable? are there any problems with the engine and gearbox? thanks
Google is your friend. From watching his videos, Mr Chops hasn’t had the best luck with corsas. My corsa of that generation was ok, but seemed to eat suspension parts for fun As far as I know they’re just the corsa D with a prettier design
i bet you still sold the rallye to someone else personally i would say no if they bring someone with them maybe but if its got a mot or you say youll put 12 months then why
This thing about distance sales is tricky because if the law is applied strictly the distance sales is if there has been no contact face to face and the contract has been completed. 3rd party inspection is not face to face with purchase and seller. I do not believe there has been a ruling either way on this area,
A frank and honest seller, i wish all sellers would be this transparent.

It was bud, made 100 quid I think, if I'd have painted it would have been 3 and a half but I've got 20 needing paint, ha, ha.
merry xmas to u both
Cheers you too

Ahh! Now that explains why your voice sounds a bit higher on this episode 😆
The build Quality of those Jeeps and Chrysler's is unbelievably bad as is the price of the parts in the UK.Just thinking about her brings back bad memories of working on them especially the interior trim which just falls apart in your hands, They make Fiats which now owns them look well built which says it all.
HI GREAT video , have a great Xmas and new year, see you in the new year
Thanks, you too!
Im the same bud and agree with that, I've seen some right horrors, I think it's worse these days with Facebook and all that.
@@roystonvehicles9129 i agree with you
a 23 year old runner, and wants it inspected, of course the inspector will find wear items it's not new or restored
There's a blue Hyundai i30 I saw on display can you do a review of it on your channel please?😊
Merry xmas great video
Re the jeep you may have ag with that 😊
Didn't really seem like a pro inspection, just a couple of lads looking round it, I've had inspections and they've even reported on the paint depth.
Yes I thought same.
@@Mortalrecordz 🤣🤣 the "stupid duck" that's owned 2 before? Idiot 😂😂
@@Mortalrecordz you get better. Literally calls someone a name, then says you should not name call , brilliant 🤣🤣
Jeez makes you wonder if they just put another bumper from another car that is way off.
Yes not great job
Although I can't claim to know this for a fact, it's the opinion of my wife, who happens to be a solicitor ... hope this is useful
I think youre right. @tomwinch9107
Delightful
Did the Jeep deal fall through? It’s still on autotrader.
No never pull ads until car is delivered and cash in account
@ shame it’s not an auto, I would have had it.
That jeep is rotten underneath
Merry Christmas 👍
Well an independent inspector that's actually seen the car disagrees with you ,🤣🤣
And you know that how
Because the Chief says so 😂😂😂
@@brianmonahan7990no mick the mot history says so over and over anddddd over
More corrosion welded up than you’ve had hot potatoes 😝
Conveniently ignored last MOT, the Independent Inspection results just had. And the fact never physically seen the car. Typical keyboard "expert" 😂😂
Merry Christmas bud.🎅🤗😃✋✌️👍
Merry Christmas mate
hello I want to buy Opel Corsa E 1.4 90 hp 2018-2019 with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. is this car reliable? are there any problems with the engine and gearbox? thanks
Google is your friend. From watching his videos, Mr Chops hasn’t had the best luck with corsas.
My corsa of that generation was ok, but seemed to eat suspension parts for fun
As far as I know they’re just the corsa D with a prettier design
Your better off calling or going online sounds like a scam trying to buy by UA-cam comments
Thing is bud these days with classics or semi classics people go crazy, I'm not getting any more, too much hassle.
It's a shame to have that Suzuki Jimny sitting there when someone could be enjoying it. 🤔
? It's an MOT failure
@@ChopsGarage Awww. 😢
Yaris bumper=sore thumb!
i bet you still sold the rallye to someone else personally i would say no if they bring someone with them maybe but if its got a mot or you say youll put 12 months then why
Yes sold no issue
That looks very cheap imo at £5995 shouldn’t it be nearer £7995???🤔 may have undersold that hence attracting difficult people.
Good thing you have your Kids all ready!!!
Lol
Lol
As is everything in life you have to be realistic,is an old cheap car.
Many are not
Jeep deal sounds off. Got a bad whiff about it.
This thing about distance sales is tricky because if the law is applied strictly the distance sales is if there has been no contact face to face and the contract has been completed.
3rd party inspection is not face to face with purchase and seller.
I do not believe there has been a ruling either way on this area,
I'd hate to be a car dealer. People want an as new car for 2nd hand money.
if a car could scream i am woke it would be that Suzuki
Weirdo
Not sure why
