I listen to Dana's book every January/February. The window between Christmas and maple season is decluttering/cleaning season!
What a treat to see a Dana - Jill convo! Dana’s principles are helping me with my homestead clutter. It’s so hard not to keep everything, especially if you have any prepping tendencies, but we find ourselves rebuying things we know we have, because we cannot find them!
We don’t have recycling either and as a homesteader I realized I could keep under my “threshold” by really reducing packaging and making things homemade. The yogurt containers and the milk cartons etc etc etc just never come in my home now.
I love your videos! This one is great for everyone. Even if your house looks all put together the closets are telling on the chaos that can overwhelm. I so much want to reach out and hand you a hair clip to help you keep it out of your eyes! Keep up the great work and thank you!
Awesome idea ladies combining Dana's ideas with homesteading gives me more encouragement I'm still stuck on the "what if I need this?" as I'm still learning one step at a time just how simplifying I can make our life.
Love this whole message with the two of you together!! Great and timely tips!!
You have NO idea how bad I needed this. Like she said, I can function in the clutter. But I hate the chaos of clutter.
Many people with depression turn into slobs. Many hoarders have a mental illness. It's not easy getting out of that. You can't just get up and clean. Most of the time it starts with setting up a bucket and a mop to start. Or clean the dishes, and that's it for the day. I speak from experience, I suffered from Depression for many years - and I work in Law Enforcement and as a firefighter/medic, and have seen many hoarders, or elderly that were abandoned by their family, collect animals or items and let their home go down the drain. Being seriously slobby or dirty is usually a sign of of a deeper problem. I know.
Hey Sheepdog, also come from public safety, just wanted to say thanks for your comment and bringing up some underlying causes of messy homes and hoarding. Stay safe, and take good care of your mental health too. 🖤💙🖤
Yall know most recycling goes to the landfills anyway right?
Thanks, Jill! After our house burned down in a wildfire, a complete strange insisted on telling me about how his house was struck by lightening and burned to the ground. Having just suffered this same loss I honestly didn't have patients to listen. BUT then he gave me the BEST advice I got after the fire! He said kind people would try to give me their extra stuff, but for me to say, "No, thank you" otherwise, in a matter of months I would be burdened down with more stuff than I lost! I took his advice (was he an angel of God?) And have lived Simply ever since. My clutter challenge is just the boxes occasional replacement items come in - which I justify keeping because my cat likes to play in them LOL God bless y'all!
